The history of the creation of the song "We need one victory" ("Our 10th airborne battalion")

The idea of including the "trench" song "We need one victory" in Belorussky Vokzal belonged to screenwriter Vadim Trunin. This picture tells about the fighting brotherhood of front-line soldiers. Four fighting friends gather at the funeral of a former fellow soldier. In the process of their communication, it becomes clear that friends are willing to help each other after many years. The climax, according to the director's idea, was to be an episode of the visit by the four main characters performed by Alexei Glazyrin, Yevgeny Leonov, Anatoly Papanov and Vsevolod Safonov, the former nurse of the battalion. After the commemoration of a comrade in arms, the guests ask the hostess to sing their "battalion" song. The authors of the film decided to entrust the writing of this composition to Bulat Okudzhava.

The bard refused for a long time. "I am not writing poetry now, I work exclusively with prose. There is a lot of work. Look for someone else" - such arguments Bulat Shalvovich met filmmakers for quite a long time.

It was possible to convince the maestro only after showing him the main scenes of the film. Later, the poet said that he agreed because of the opportunity to write a simple trench song - "one of those that everyone at the front sang." The task set by the filmmakers was not an easy one and consisted in the following: to weave the tragedy of the Soviet people and the courage of the Great Victory into the epilogue bearing semantic content.

The entire film group gathered to listen to the finished song.

I confess I was at a loss, - later recalled Okudzhava. - I warned that I did not have a ready-made melody, only poetry. And in a voice uncertain and wild from experiences, he began to sing, accompanying himself on the piano ...

After the audition, an oppressive silence reigned. The listeners' faces were filled with disappointment. And only the composer Alfred Schnittke (the author of the music for the rest of the episodes of the "Belorussky Station") optimistically declared: "Listen, this is very interesting," after which he sat down at the piano and sang the song with Okudzhava ...

In the film "Belorussky Station" the song "Our 10th Airborne Battalion" sounded exactly as it was intended: without special skill, on emotions ...

Lyrics and lyrics of the song "We need one victory" ("Our 10th Airborne Battalion")

Birds don't sing here

Trees don't grow

And only we, shoulder to shoulder

We grow into the ground here.

The planet is burning and spinning

Smoke over our Motherland

And that means we need one victory,

One for all - we will not stand for the price.

A deadly fire awaits us,

And yet he is powerless.

Doubts away, goes away into the night separate,

Our tenth airborne battalion.

As soon as the battle died down

Another order sounds

And the postman will go crazy

Looking for us.

A red rocket takes off

The machine gun beats indefatigably,

And that means we need one victory,

One for all - we will not stand for the price.

One for all - we will not stand for the price.

From Kursk and Orel

The war brought us

To the very enemy gates.

Such, brother, things.

Someday we will remember this

And he will not believe it himself.

And now we need one victory

One for all - we will not stand for the price.

One for all - we will not stand for the price.

Yesterday I again listened to the song of Bulat Okudzhava from the film "Belorussky Station".
Again, because in recent years I have been listening to this song a lot. It not only takes me into memories of the war, "About battles - conflagrations, about soldiers - comrades", but also makes me think about our present and future. Seven decades after that Victory, which cost our people a terrible price.

One for all, we will not stand for the price. "

And I could not resist not to quote here the entire text of this wonderful song about that bloody war.

"Birds do not sing here, trees do not grow,
And only we are shoulder to shoulder burrowing into the ground here.
The planet is burning and spinning
Smoke over our Motherland

Lethal fire awaits us
And yet he is powerless,

As soon as the battle has died down, another order sounds,
And the postman will go crazy looking for us.
A red rocket takes off
The machine gun beats indefatigably,
And that means we need one victory,
One for all, we will not stand for the price,
One for all, we will not stand for the price.

Lethal fire awaits us
And yet he is powerless,
Doubts away, goes away into the night separate
Our tenth airborne battalion,
Our tenth airborne battalion.

From Kursk and Orel, the war brought us
Until the very enemy gates, such, brother, deeds.
Someday we will remember this
And he will not believe himself,
And now we need one victory
One for all, we will not stand for the price,
One for all, we will not stand for the price.

Lethal fire awaits us
And yet he is powerless,
Doubts away, goes away into the night separate
Our tenth airborne battalion,
Our tenth airborne battalion. "

In April 1942, Bulat Okudzhava sought an early draft into the army.
And although one month remained until the age of eighteen, he was not taken into the army.
Only in August of the same year Bulat Okudzhava was drafted into the Red Army and sent to the 10th separate reserve mortar division. That's where it comes from: "Our 10th Airborne Battalion."

I cannot resist here and before not to remind that Bulat Okudzhava, the famous Soviet and Russian poet, bard, prose writer and screenwriter, composer, author of about two hundred author's and pop songs written in his own poems, is one of the brightest representatives of the genre author's song in the 1950s-1980s, was born in Moscow on May 9, 1924, the day that twenty-one years later became one of the main holidays of our people, Victory Day.

Throughout his creative life, Bulat Okudzhava composed and sang songs about how the country lived. After the war, he sang about how our Victory was forged, at what cost we had to "not stand up" for it. After the XX Congress, when the country was experiencing a "shock state" from revealing to the people the truth about "dear and beloved", Bulat Okudzhava sang:
"And the mustachioed falcon flew,
Shivering the whole world.
He appreciated the people highly,
Yes, people did not care. "

I listened to Bulat Okudzhava's song about how we needed victory in those terrible years and thought that even now: "The planet is burning," and again our country is almost in the very center of that fire. It looks like that again:
"And now we need one victory,
One for all, we will not stand for the price ... ".

* * *
The planet is burning and spinning
There is fire and smoke on it again,
Why were we dragged into this heat?
Who will get "kalym" for this?
Which of us still needs a victory?
Maybe a victory over yourself?
Well, I agree with this conclusion.

I agree, we all need to work
Over so that we live in a completely different way,
When they make a herd of rams from us,
In which our life goes
According to the old law:
"Today I am the boss, you are a fool."
