How to fix a TV on a plasterboard wall: installation methods and features. Budget bracket made of wood plank

The optimal location of the TV will help you to spend your leisure time comfortably without harmful stress on the body. Before you hang the TV on the wall with your own hands, you need to understand how to do it correctly. It would seem a simple matter, but you need to approach it wisely.

To install a TV on the wall with your own hands, you just need to have basic skills in using a drill. Improper installation of the TV can be harmful to health resulting from uncomfortable posture or eye strain. You should avoid placing the TV near the ceiling, since in this case a person will only be able to watch TV while lying down, and this is not recommended.

TV manufacturers advise you to adhere to a number of rules on how to hang a TV on the wall correctly:

  • With a TV weighing more than 25 kg, you need to contact a friend for help;
  • In the absence of skills, it is worth turning with the installation to a professional who already has the necessary knowledge in this area;
  • When installing the TV on a wall, it is necessary to check the surface of the walls, if the walls are made of plasterboard, then they will not be able to withstand the new device;
  • It is strongly discouraged to connect the TV to the network without completing the installation;
  • Installation in a narrow niche under the TV (see that the gap between the TV and the walls of the niche is sufficient for the circulation of heated air by the TV) can lead to overheating and damage to the device.

Choosing a place to mount the TV

Today, the technique is designed to be not only functional, but also capable of continuing this or that interior solution. If the room is made in a retro style or with classic elements, the sheer presence of modern technology can be unpleasant to the eye. In this case, the TVs are installed in a niche of a different color, where it looks like a picture in the appropriate processing with moldings, lighting devices and other decorative elements.

How to hang a TV on the wall so that it is not too high? To do this, it is recommended to sit down and draw the line to the place where the installation is planned. If you have to raise your head, you feel tension in the neck, then you should lower the outline below. The screen should be at eye level ± 10 °.

The distance to the screen is also important: with a large diagonal, the TV should be located at a distance. However, when choosing a height, first of all, one should be guided by an inner feeling. When the place is found, you need to mark it with tape or adhesive tape for subsequent installation.

Tip: When marking out the spot you find, use a level so that the placement line is completely flat.

We hang the TV on the wall with our own hands

After the place for installation of the device is selected, the installation of the mounts is carried out. Fastening methods are in the form of plates attached directly to the wall and brackets. Brackets can hold the device in one position, and can adjust tilt and swivel.

Tip: When buying fasteners, you must read the instructions in the store, and if there are unclear points, check with the seller how to hang the TV on the wall.

You need to choose a bracket according to:

  • strength , fasteners must have in the description the amount of possible weight in kg;
  • functional - fixed position or with swivel and / or tilt adjustment;
  • type - there is an optimal bracket for each type of screen, check with your consultant for the most suitable fasteners.

How to choose fasteners yourself? In television technology, there is a VESA standard. For example, a TV is numbered VESA 85, a suitable bracket must contain the same numbers.

Fasteners are rigid, inclined and swivel. The most expensive are the most functional ones - swivel ones, which allow you to turn the TV in different directions within 10-20 degrees. The cheapest is a rigid mount that will firmly fix the TV 5-10 cm from the wall, very strong and cheap, but without the possibility of changing any tilt characteristics.

When installing the movable fasteners, you need to pay attention to whether the power wire is stretched when turning, in case of tension, sparking may occur, followed by fire.

How to hang a TV on a wall using a bracket

The fasteners are screwed to the TV, you must first remove the plugs from the screw holes. The distance from the side lines of the screen to the bracket is measured. A plate is mounted on the wall based on the data just received. Holes are drilled slightly smaller than the length of the screws. Dowels are inserted and the plate is screwed on. The last step is to install the TV and secure the bracket to the plate.

To determine how to hang the TV on the wall, you need to check whether the wiring is running through the installation site, and also determine the material from which the wall is made to select the appropriate dowels (for concrete, drywall, etc.).

LCD (LCD), LED (light-emitting diode) and plasma TVs in the interior finally "waved the handle" of cabinet furniture and moved into the realm of decor and decoration. The reason is obvious: a flat-panel TV is like a picture in a frame and therefore fits organically into almost any room design. Along the way, useful area is freed, which simplifies and reduces the cost of renovation with furniture.

However, at the same time, the happy owners of a high-tech window into the world face a far from idle question: how to hang a TV on the wall? 28 "(28", 71 cm) LCD weighs under 15 kg; the same "plasma" approx. 20. At the optimal viewing distance of 3 screen diagonals recommended by doctors, a 35 ”TV set can be placed in an ordinary living room. The back walls of all of them are thin, most often plastic. The repetitive hedgehog understands that the TV will not hang on a pair of hooks for a long time, a special holder is required. Which, in turn, must be securely fixed to the wall.

There are more than an abundance of offers from the "hangers", but the prices for the work ... In general, it comes out to a circle: the price in rubles for mounting a TV on the wall is obtained by multiplying the diagonal of the screen in centimeters by 100. For "plasma" the surcharge is approx. 10%, and for fastening to plasterboard, PHB (tongue-and-groove blocks) and other "problem" (weak) walls - another 20%. Perhaps the craftsmen work out their own tariffs for some other reason; say, the cost of working time and the cost of an hour of the life of your family. However, the results of statistical processing for the regions of the Russian Federation give the values indicated above. Considering that many people have to take a loan to buy a TV, the question arising from the first question - how to attach a TV to the wall with your own hands - becomes no less relevant.

What about the bracket?

It is possible to fix the TV on the wall immovably from the point of view of ergonomics only in some cases. Although modern flat-panel TVs typically have full field of view at least 120 degrees horizontally and 60 degrees vertically, health requirements for extended viewing impose additional restrictions: up to +/– 30 degrees from the horizontal axis perpendicular to the center of the screen; tilt of the screen plane vertically up to +5 (up) and –15 (down) degrees. If long-term viewing is possible while sitting and lying (studio apartment or a small one with a living room-bedroom), the vertical inclination is admissible at +/– 15 degrees. Those., the system for fixing the TV to the wall must ensure its swivel / tilt within certain limits so that the viewers' eyes are in the indicated areas, and best of all - directly against the center of the screen.

Note: in what cases and how to mount the TV on the wall it is possible tightly / motionlessly, will be discussed below.

The prices for TV holders do not seem to bite very much: a good one for a diagonal of up to 30 ”can be purchased for 2000-3000 rubles. , and one that will stand it on a solid main wall - less than 1000. But if the TV is credit, then this amount can also matter. Hence the third question: is it possible to make a TV mount on the wall with your own hands? There seems to be nothing complicated in store products; for pivoting hinges, small garage hinges (say, 10x120) or detachable door hinges with a ball bearing will fit. Well, let's see about work.

Watch the video. It is not educational, selected by the number of viewers' comments.

Video: how to hang a TV on the wall

If we discard the purely "goblin (troll)" ones, then it is still clear: there are more than enough well-grounded questions and comments on the quality of the work and the course of its execution. Although, it would seem, what kind of skill is needed, to drill holes in the wall, drive dowels into them and put an iron specially designed for this on the self-tapping screws?

When installing on a purchased bracket, there may be associated problems. For example, its overhang when folded is 40 mm, which is aesthetically pleasing. But the socket has already been moved up so that the TV will cover it. The protrusion from it of the mains plug with the axial entry of the power cord, which is most often supplied to TVs - from 60 mm. Cut the cord and put in a side-entry plug? The warranty is lost because almost all TVs have an integral power cable.

Or vice versa, for viewing in the sleeping area, the TV must be rotated 80-90 degrees. But then the usual "breaking" bracket will need such that when viewed in the living area, its hinge will stick out from the side and make the entire interior design laugh. And for suspension on a special bracket, just for such cases (see below), an ordinary TV is not suitable.

On the other hand, in 2 parts of another plot, it is shown how to independently make a bracket for a TV.

Video: DIY LCD TV bracket

The finished product turned out to be quite solid, but only with the 1st degree of freedom (see below), which is far from always acceptable. The work is not easy, and the savings are not more than 3000 rubles. at its best.

Based on these conditions, you can regarding the purchase or self-made the TV bracket, give the following recommendations:

  • First of all, it is necessary, according to the requirements of medical sanitation, ergonomics and interior design (in this order), to find a place on the walls for a TV with satisfactory bearing properties of the supporting surface: with a TV weight of 10 kg, each of the 4 points of its attachment to the wall will have to not less than 20 kgf; the leverage rule applies here.
  • Then choose a suitable mounting structure.
  • If it is possible to use welding equipment, access to metal-cutting machines, appropriate working skills and a certain supply of suitable scrap metal (steel pipe from 25x15x1 and sheet from 1.5 mm), then you can make a TV bracket with your own hands. Of the saved Money enough to mark the successful completion of the job.
  • Otherwise, search the Internet for a product that suits your requirements. The choice is immense, but how to choose a TV mount with knowledge of the matter and make its installation with your own hands, this is all the subsequent material of the article.

How the TV is attached to the wall

The vast majority of TVs are designed for mounting according to the VESA system, which is based on installation modules (typical distances between the centers of the holes) of 75, 100, 200, 300 and 400 mm. An exception is TVs with a screen diagonal of more than 25 ”(63.5 cm) for studio apartments or other residential premises with combined functionality, i.e. with sleeping and living areas in one room. We will remember more about these, but for now we will deal with VESA.

Note: TV stands are not hung on the brackets with a socket for placing on the “foot”. small support area. When manipulating the TV on the bracket, large concentrated loads will arise in the socket and it will quickly collapse. This incident, of course, is not guaranteed.

On tv

The mounting points of the TV on VESA modules are located on its rear panel, most often in 4 or, in rare cases, in pairs, pos. 2 in Fig. "Quadruple" VESA is most often organized in the form of a square, pos. 1 or more or less elongated rectangle, pos. 3 and 4. Sometimes, but very rarely - in the form of a trapezoid, isosceles or oblique.

The standard mounting bolts, pos. 1-3, are often already wrapped into the attachment points. If not, when buying, look for them in a separate package and do not use others: planting the TV on non-standard fasteners completely removes the warranty.

Sometimes, as a rule, in "steep plasmas", the standard fasteners are poorly visible (pos. 3), the bolt heads are designed for special tools (for example, a 5-sided wrench), and even filled with soft plastic. This means that a certified technician must always hang the TV on the bracket. At the end of the work, he puts his personal stamp on the warranty card and makes a note about the work performed; without this, all warranty claims will be canceled.

The same situation arises with regard to televisions with steel back wall, on which there are stampings for fastening with standard, and only standard, non-screwable self-tapping screws (red arrows in pos. 4). Such TVs are most often anti-vandal and anti-theft; self-tapping fastening is intended for installation in public premises. For residential, as a rule, the usual VESA (orange arrows) is provided, but be sure to check with the user manual, whether a non-proprietary installation is acceptable, otherwise the guarantee is kandyk.

Note: the price of TVs according to pos. 3 and 4 above at branded dealerships will typically include on-site installation within a city. Brackets are also often offered a choice for some extra charge or a bonus, if that's your eye, find out before you shell out.

On bracket

A diagram of a standard VESA mounting platform (cross, butterfly, crab, mill, cuttlefish - simply) is shown in pos. 5. It can be made independently from durable laminated plastic (getinax, textolite, fiberglass) with a thickness of 4 mm or sheet steel from 1.5 mm. In the latter case, it is highly desirable to stick elastic spacers on the seating surface, for example. from cork or linoleum; It is also better to take a purchased bracket with gaskets, because any mechanical damage to the TV case, even small scratches / dents, give a formal reason to refuse warranty repair.

A simplified VESA wall mount for TVs up to 12 ”(30.5 cm) is shown in pos. 6. It just makes perfect sense to do this with your own hands; let's say for a small TV in the kitchen. To mount the entire suspension, first fix the support bracket to the wall. a, then to the TV mounting bracket b... They put the TV in place together: one holds it, and the other tightens the locking bolts v... Removal as needed - in reverse order. "Telk" with a diagonal (8-10) ”can be generally hung together with a hook attachment. Only, God forbid, not on silumin or plastic: they tend to suddenly break off under load for no apparent reason.

Brackets

Most often, TVs are hung on "breaking" (breaking) brackets with 3 degrees of freedom: turning sideways, moving sideways, tilting, on the left in Fig. If there is a need to turn the TV more than 75-80 degrees, it is necessary that the full reach of the arm of the bracket (distance A) is at least half the overall width of the TV. It is also highly desirable that the far hinge B is detachable without a tool, this will greatly facilitate and simplify the installation / removal of the TV.

Note: inexpensive brackets with 3 degrees of freedom, as a rule, are mounted only on solid walls. Fastening them to PHB and gypsum board (drywall, see below) is most often impossible.

For a fixed mount, much cheaper holders with a 1st degree of freedom are used, which only allow adjusting the tilt of the screen, on the right in Fig. They also allow mounting on weak walls, so it is advisable, if the purpose and functionality of the room allow, to find a place in it for a fixed TV suspension.

Fitting a TV on such a holder requires two people: with mounting units B pre-screwed to the body, holding it from the sides, put it on the support bar D. The "one-free" holder allows you to mount very large TVs with mounting modules over 400 mm and generally non-standard. However, if the fixing points of the TV are not in a rectangle, installation may not be possible, because the ability of assemblies to skew is very limited.

Special cases

With frequent manipulations with a large TV in multifunctional rooms, in order to securely fix the TV on the wall, a pantograph or parallelogram mount and a beam suspension are required, see Fig. on right. VESA without beams (shown with red arrows) in this case will no longer be reliable: it weakens quickly, or even the body cracks. In addition, the pantograph arm folds compactly, and the TV can be pressed tightly against the wall.

The unconditional disadvantages of pantograph brackets, firstly, the prices for them themselves: an order of magnitude, literally, higher than the breaking ones. Secondly, a special TV is also needed, with combs on the back panel for attaching the beams and handles on the sides, for which it is dragged back and forth, can also be seen in Fig. on right.

A special TV will also be needed for installation in a niche flush with the wall, without a gap on the sides. Here it is a matter of cooling: you need to ensure air circulation behind the TV. It is not only "plasmas" that are sensitive to overheating; For LCD / LEDs that operate without heat dissipation, screen stratification before the expiration of the warranty is a common thing, and any more or less experienced repairman will accurately determine the reason. From the LCD / LED "TV" with a split screen, all that remains is to remove the electronics for spare parts, and throw the rest away.

Note: Screen delamination first appears as a colored moire, which quickly turns into dark or light spots.

TV sets for installation in blind niches are equipped with a special mounting box. In addition to VESA, they have hooks on the side of the case for hanging in the box. The installation diagram of the TV in the mounting box is shown in Fig. In addition to niches, such are hung on very weak walls; as a rule, at least 8 points of attachment to the bearing surface are provided in the box.

On the wall

For attaching conventional brackets to solid walls, fasteners, unless otherwise indicated in the specification for the TV, are selected according to the following rules:

  1. Dowels - at least propylene, and preferably steel;
  2. For walls made of PHB (foam blocks, cinder blocks), only propylene dowels;
  3. Diameter of self-tapping screws in mm - not less than the first digit of the screen diagonal in inches, but in any case from 4 mm;
  4. Deepening the self-tapping screw into load-bearing wall, in mm, not counting the thickness of the finish - not less than the diagonal size in cm + 10 mm for concrete walls, not less than the same diagonal length in cm +30 mm for brick walls and not less than 1.5 diagonal in cm +50 mm for walls from PSB.

For example, a 12-inch (31 cm) TV. The diameter of the self-tapping screws is 4 mm. Deepening into concrete wall from 40 mm, in brick from 60 mm, in PHB from 95 mm. Diagonal 28 ”(71 cm) - respectively from 7 mm, from 80 mm, from 100 mm and from 155 mm.

Drywall

The above does not apply to walls made of gypsum plasterboard, they are too weak. For installation on a solid wall with cladding, the dowels are driven into the load-bearing wall; holes in the casing are drilled, under the passage of the dowel head. The dowels are upset to the place, tapping with a hammer on a spacer made of a steel bar; a 6-sided socket wrench of a suitable size (so as not to fall into the dowel) is suitable.

If the partition is entirely plasterboard on the frame, then, firstly, the sheathing thickness should be 12 mm or more. Otherwise, we are looking for another place for the TV or put it on a pedestal. Secondly, the weight of the TV set per 1 point of attachment to the wall should not exceed 5 kg, i.e. when mounted on 4 points, it should not be higher than 20 kg. Thirdly, the distance between the centers of the mounting holes should be, in mm, at least 20 TV weights in kg. In this example, from 400 mm.

Also, instead of simple dowels, anchor dowels are used, with legs diverging, in mm, at least 2 times the weight of the TV in kg; in our case, not less than 40 mm to the sides. The attachment points should not be too close to the frame or too far from it; approximately permissible distances of the ends of the "spread out" legs from the frame elements are shown in fig.

It remains to decide how to find the elements of the crate if their location is unknown. In the case of a crate made of a steel profile, a simple metal detector will help out here. Not an expensive field one, with which treasure walkers ransack beaches and popular picnic spots, but a construction one, which you can do with your own hands, without delving into the jungle of electronics.

A remedy to find in an amateur setting bars timber frame under drywall - a medical stethoscope. First, tapping your knuckles on the wall, they find a place where the sound is louder. Then, tapping in the same place, they listen to the wall with a stethoscope. The sound diminishes sharply over the sheathing beams.

Straight to the wall

If it is possible to organize a permanent viewing area in a room with a TV, then in all respects it will be optimal to mount it tightly to the wall, without a bracket. The design of the holder without degrees of freedom can repeat that of the "1-free" bracket; drawing - on pos. 1 fig. Material - thin-walled perforated steel profile: corner 80x60 and U-shaped 40x40. Scraps can always be bought at hardware stores or from drywall craftsmen. The smaller corner shelf folds in half and folds up slightly.

When suspended on such a holder, it is possible to set the screen tilt angle once by placing spacers-bosses under the upper or lower VESA bolts. For angles of +/– 15 degrees and a viewing distance of 3 m, this will allow you to change the suspension height within +/– 0.8 m, which is sufficient for most interior solutions.

A very easy way to hang a TV without a bracket - a piece wooden board thickness from 30 mm, pos. 2, and furniture hinges for shelves, pos. 3. To avoid "out of warranty" due to scratches on the case, it is better to attach them to the plywood gasket, pos. 4. If you take the supporting bar with a width of 150 mm and attach in the corner, a pair of self-tapping screws on each edge, then for a TV with a diagonal of up to 70-85 cm it is possible to organize a long viewing area in the Khrushchev living room 3x4 m, where cockroaches are nowhere to roam, pos. 5.

Where to put the wires

For a modern TV, taking into account the available signal sources and the possibility of using it as a PC display, up to 6-7 cables are suitable. In addition, it is fundamentally impossible to place an effective acoustic design in a thin flat case, and a full "juice" of sound can be achieved only with the help of external speakers (acoustic systems, speakers), this is another 2-3 cables. Such a "broom" even in the dark will spoil the impression both from the interior with the TV and from the program, even if its plot is of this kind, from which some categories of viewers forget everything in the world, on the left in Fig.

The way to hide a bunch of TV wires is well known: this is a piece of cable box in colors and textures that match the interior. Attaching shelves for a tuner, DVD player, USB and media containers to it is not a difficult task for home master middle level, center and right.

You can also find tips to run the wires under the drywall through 2 holes in the casing, above and below. Suppose it is still possible to crochet their ends at the bottom with a crochet hook. Let's also assume that the connectors on the wires will be mounted later. But how to pass the elements of the sheathing frame? It remains to assume that the authors of these recommendations simply do not know that the wall is sheathed along the crate.

Garage-barn-cottage

Old "picture tubes" (CRT, with a cathode-ray tube) TV-"bubbles" are usually sent here to retire. They can also be hung on the wall. We do not touch the lamp-semiconductor "coffins"; workers, they are valuable technical antiques and there is no need to finish them off. Let's deal with the later single-board with a slot mask in the tube.

Internal Basic structure Still vigorous CRT veterans can be in the form of a frame made of steel profiles or a volumetric frame made of a round bar. They can be recognized by the mounting feet: the former show the heads of rather powerful bolts with wide washers. For such, a console bracket can be made from a professional pipe from 25x15, pos. 1 in fig. To attach a TV to it, holes are drilled in the consoles for the bolts of the legs; regular ones need to be replaced with others, with the same thread, but elongated by the thickness of the consoles + the depth of the hole in the leg. There is a nuance here: the bolts need to be changed one at a time, and the TV must be attached to the consoles carefully, otherwise its "guts" may shift. It will not break, but it will be difficult to catch the "left" nests with bolts without disassembly.

CRT TVs with a volumetric power frame are hung on the wall even easier: on a cord with loops at the ends, pos. 2 and 3. The hinges are clamped under the standard rear cover mounting bolts. By pulling the cord through the holes in the plywood support holder, you can adjust the tilt of the screen. This mount looks curious, but it is quite reliable and practically free.

Note: as a technical curiosity, the fact that in pos. 4. The steam locomotive will withstand, but the design ... Is that the owner is eager to inexorably and inexorably hang a one and a half meter plasma in the garage.

The advent of LCD and plasma TVs made it possible to install them not only on traditional bedside tables or stands, but also to attach them to walls. The flat screen of such models does not violate the overall interior of the room at all, and placing the TV on the wall saves a lot of space.

Especially often this advantage of flat-panel TVs is used in kitchens, where family members, especially housewives, spend a lot of time. Ordinary small-sized devices are also attached to the walls. But here's how to properly fix the TV on the wall - we'll talk about this today.

Choosing a TV bracket

Currently, quite a few models of various brackets have appeared on sale, for any option for placing a TV: on a wall, in a corner, with different lifting and turning radii. The selection of such a bracket is made for a specific TV, since the mounting holes of the bracket and the device may not match. Although manufacturers adhere to common standards, making sure you buy the right bracket for your TV is a good idea. And you also need to consider whether this bracket can withstand the weight of your device. If the TV is ordinary, not flat, then such a bracket looks like a shelf.

We fix the TV using the bracket

Work on mounting the TV should be carried out by two people, even if it is small. It should be noted that if the wall material is drywall, then it is better not to risk it and choose another place. And if you are already mounted on such a wall, then the weight of the TV with the bracket should not be more than 20 kg. For an ordinary small-sized TV, it is not difficult to find a place for attaching the stand. With flat ones, it's a little more difficult. Here you need to take into account the limits of rotation of the TV itself horizontally and vertically. This is especially important if the attachment point is chosen in the corner or not far from it.

It is better to start by lightly screwing the bracket to the TV (bait it). After that, you need to select the position of the apparatus both in height and horizontally. When you have chosen a place, place the TV against the wall so that the bracket rests against it. Let one person hold the bracket, while the other tries to rotate the apparatus itself. In this way, the best option for attaching the bracket is selected, it remains only to outline a place for it on the wall. After that, you need to remove the fasteners from the TV, attach them to the wall according to the markings and mark the places
