Do-it-yourself model of a railway crossing from scrap materials. Railroad Track Make the rails of a railroad layout

Soon New Year, and it is better to prepare for it in advance - including on the model :) Therefore, I made for myself a New Year's diorama in my favorite scale - TT.

The diorama turned out to be 20 * 20 cm in size. The diorama is made on a homemade "box" made of plastic.

The tree is made of a brass tube with soldered wire branches. The needles are the usual NOKH-ovsky tinted flock.

The height of the tree without a star is 13 cm. Christmas decorations- different beads. The rain is a real rain, slightly clipped. The star is cut from a piece of plastic and sprinkled with shiny powder. There are four on the tree glowing garland of SMD LEDs in case 0603, 11 in each. Garlands can blink (a primitive circuit on a transistor and a capacitor), there are two modes: normal - simple glow, and blinking.

Snow is made from regular baking soda mixed with diluted PVA glue. The paving stones in the square are from Auchagen.

Ice luminous cubes - molded from plasticine and copied from transparent resin CrystalLine 940. Blue and white LEDs are "molded" into resin.
Figures - Preiser, self-painted. Figures are not enough - in TT "winter" generally few are produced. I think I'll remake more of the "summer" figures ...

Decorative gifts under the tree - cut out of cardboard and pasted over with paper from candy wrappers.

Machine - "Moskvich" from Herpa. Snowman - made of foam balls.

In general, the process of creating the square took a month - mainly in the evenings and weekends. If only I didn't have to go to work ... :)

The houses in the photo are not part of the diorama - they are just set for the background.

For young modelers and enthusiasts who feel sorry for or not have money for purchased rails, but have time, below we present you an example of a budget modeling railway track.

The basis our road is a stretcher made of strips and plywood. Its size can be approximately 3000x500x120 mm or more. It depends on the area of the room. The role of ballast is performed by wooden blocks, on which the sleepers are laid. Homemade rails are attached to the sleepers.
And to make your road bed look like a real one, grease it with liquid wood glue and sprinkle it with sand sifted through a fine sieve. When the glue is dry, shake off excess sand. You can do it differently: paint the stretcher with paint. Of course, you first need to putty it, sand it with a sandpaper ...

Sleepers can be made from plywood strips or pine planks 60x10x4 mm. In order not to bother with the manufacture of each tie, the work can be simplified. Take a sheet of plywood, mark it according to the size of the sleepers and cut it with a fine-toothed hacksaw, then smooth out all the irregularities with a file and sandpaper and paint oil paint or black ink.
Ready sleepers are laid on the canvas - glued at a distance of 20-25 mm from each other.

You need a stamp to make them. It is made from two metal rectangular bars of the same section.
On a milling or planing machine, process these blocks. On one, cut a groove 7x10 mm in size and two grooves with a diameter of 3 and 4 mm, on the other - the same grooves, but instead of a groove, a protrusion. You will get a device like a punch and a matrix. The rail head is stamped into the groove (see figure below). The 1: 50 model uses a 3.5 mm notch, and the 1: 100 model uses 2.5 mm.
Let's talk about the sequence of operations. Take a strip of tin (see picture below), draw a center line, fold. Insert a wire with a diameter of 2.5-3 mm inside - for the rail head, crimp with wire cutters and now put it into the stamp. Clamp the die in a vise, and you get a straight rail along the entire length with a good head and neck.
Without removing the rail from the die, flare its base with a screwdriver in different directions and align with a mallet.
Attach the finished rail to the sleepers with studs. Do this carefully and as accurately as possible. First of all, outline a line of one strand of rails along the entire length of the canvas. To do this, exactly at a distance of 15 mm from the edge of the sleepers, pull the thread, fastening it on two studs temporarily driven into the first and last sleepers. Place the rails and nail exactly under this thread. At the same time, they should neither touch it, nor pull it to the side.
There is another way. Cut out a rectangular bar measuring 1000x32x10 mm. Place it in the center of the ballast, secure with nails and run rails on either side of it. You will see how exactly they fit, and the distance between them will be accurate along the entire length - equal to 32 mm between the heads.
It is necessary to connect the rails to each other at the joints with rods that are inserted into the rail heads. The rail joints must be in the middle of the sleepers.
When you make one section of the track, test the locomotive on it and start building the next section.
Fasten the sections together with metal hooks or loops attached to the stretcher.
So, you have built a railroad track, laid sleepers, rails. Now you need to install the support poles and tighten the overhead wire.

Support masts. Cut the support out of a bar 200 mm long and 21 x 21 mm in cross section. Take plywood (30 x 30 mm) by the base. Drill a 10mm hole in the center, sand and fit the bottom of the mast.
You can make the hanger on which the contact wire is attached from any wire with a diameter of 2-3 mm. Do not forget to wind the spring, as shown in the figure, for this take a nail with a diameter of 2 mm, clamp it in a vice and wrap a spiral 10-12 mm high around it. The suspension is ready. It is attached to the support mast through a bracket and, in addition, is pulled with a string for greater strength - regular thread or a thin wire.
Insulators there may be plastic beads or small buttons.
Contact wire runs along the entire track. It is supported by the support poles we just told you about and the support wire. It is fixed over the contact wire and connected to it with guy wires.
To make the model portable, the overhead wires have a break in several places and are connected by connectors - two metal plates: a contact wire is soldered to one, and a reference wire to the other. The plates are equipped with a lock - cutouts are made on one, rivets are soldered on the other. Thanks to this, the plates are easily and quickly separated.
You can "green up" the finished railway. The material for the "grass" is dry sawdust, painted green with gouache. They are sifted through a sieve onto a tablet greased with wood glue, drying oil or oil varnish.
"Trees" are made from a rubber sponge, foam rubber or a bundle of copper wire. The plait is folded in half and twisted to the distance of the "trunk", and for the "branches" the wire is disconnected. In order for the “tree” to “turn green”, it is dipped in liquid glue, allowed to drain and sprinkled on the “crown” with finely chopped dyed tissue paper.

On this page, we, together with one of our buyers, will tell you and show you the assembly of the layout railroad a slightly different level. We We will tell you how you can make a layout at home and what difficulties you may face when creating a layout. The layout itself will be of a larger size, and it will also include several elements that we have not yet talked about in previous articles.

. Lesson 1 (25/02/14)

Where to begin?

The idea of creating a layout comes when you have any starter kit. We took the set as a basis.

First, it is necessary to determine what you want. What will be the landscape (mountains, tunnels, reservoirs), city, industrial area or countryside, as well as the approximate number of trains that should run simultaneously on your model.

We decided this: our layout should have a mountain, tunnels, bridges, countryside. And we really wanted at least two trains to ride in our town at the same time. And we also decided to make the lower tier for storing trains (because in the future we plan to increase the number of trains).

Secondly, you need to decide what size your layout will be. What area can you allocate for this miracle? We decided that our layout will be 2.20x1.40m in size.

Third, you need to make a table for the layout. To do this, you will need chipboard / plywood or other fairly strong material for the base of the layout, side strips (table edging), as well as table legs (for our table you need 6 legs).

And finally, after you have decided on the general idea of the layout, its dimensions and selected / made a suitable table, you can start drawing up the layout of the rail tracks. This is the most important and difficult stage in creating a layout!

It is necessary to make a sketch of an approximate track diagram. We got it like this:

Initially, it is very difficult to calculate how many and which rails are needed for your circuit, so we went the following way: We have a starter kit, which contains a lot of rail material. Using the rails from the set, we began to create our own rail scheme on the surface. You can also, for example, cut rails out of paper according to their size and fold them like a puzzle. Thus, you will avoid unnecessary costs. It turned out that some sections of the road could not be folded from standard rails (tunnels, elevations, bridges) and here rails came to our rescue. The starting point for us was, from him we began to make our own paths.

Lesson 2 (02/03/14)

The next stage in creating a layout is the implementation of landscape elements.

In our layout, one large mountain and small hills, tunnels, as well as a reservoir were planned.

To embody all this, we needed for a large mountain and a reservoir, as well as 2 sets for a small hill with a tunnel. These sets contain a lot of material for creating mountain surfaces of any complexity. And what is good, these kits allow you to make your own mountain according to your design, and not only focus on the images offered by the manufacturer.

First of all, we started making a big mountain with tunnels.

When creating the tunnels, we faced such a problem: since we have double-deck cars in the starting set, they did not go into the tunnel portal (because our portal stood at a turn and the cars, due to their length, had a large body extension when turning, they derailed ). We had to insert small straight sections of the rail in front of and behind the portal to solve this problem.

Important! When installing portals, bridges, ascents and descents, it is imperative to check the passage of dangerous sections of the road by the largest carriage, locomotive that you have.

When the rails are laid (preferably using a rail pad to reduce the noise from train traffic, we used), you can construct a mountain.

In our big mountain, we made 2 tunnels, a site for the future hotel. The back wall of the mountain will not be visible and we decided to make it out of plywood, cutting out the outline of the future mountain. The frame of the mountain itself is ready!

We also create a frame for our hill and a small tunnel.

We used to decorate the front wall of the tunnel. To do this, we cut it into two halves. It will serve us not only as a decoration for a tunnel, but also as a pavement for our little residents.

We put a bridge between the mountain and the hill, which is included in the kit. And we also used a small one at the exit from a large mountain on the descent.

In the next lesson, we will design our frames special paper and make rocky sections!

3 lesson (11/03/14)

We continue to decorate our landscape:

We have a frame of a large mountain and a hill ready. With the help of crepe paper, which is in the set, we frame our frame. We fix the paper with ordinary PVA glue.

We used to decorate the bridge piers and the inner part of the tunnels.

We also make out the frame of the hill and all the descents and ascents.

To make our mountain realistic, we make rocky ledges. They can be made from ready-made ones, for example, or made by yourself using a special mixture Noch 60880 A mixture of "granite" for creating mountain surfaces (it is also included in the set for prototyping 60805). The mixture is diluted with plain water and you can make it of various thicknesses. It is applied to the surface with a spatula or a simple brush.

Here's what we got:

The pond is also created using crepe paper and (which is also included in the large layout kit 60805).

After shaping the reservoir, it is better to paint its base with ordinary gouache, thereby giving natural shades of depth. After that we cover with a film, giving it the desired shape.

In the next lesson, we will tackle the landscaping of our layout.

Lesson number 4 (03/27/14)

Today we will start decorating our mountains and train tracks.

When the shape of the landscape is ready, it's time to start planting grass and trees. For large, flat surfaces, it is better to use ready-made grass mats (). For uneven surfaces, grass simulants of various shades will be needed. To apply the simulator, and is required.

The largest operating model of the railway in Moscow is located at the Rizhsky railway station. Natural landscapes and objects of urban infrastructure have been recreated in miniature, against their background railway communication in all its diversity is demonstrated.

What they have seen goes far beyond the scope of children's entertainment; it will be interesting for both children and adults to visit the model of the railway in Moscow. The ratio of the dimensions of the elements of the layout is kept on the same scale, creating the illusion of observing the real terrain, vehicles, people and other objects. The miniature occupies the main part of the hall area, along the perimeter of the room there are racks with models of railway equipment, maps of existing and planned highways. For those interested in the history of the development of railway transport, we recommend visiting the Paveletsky railway station. If you are pressed for time, you can at least read our article with a similar title.

Examining the layout of the railway in Moscow

Some passenger and freight trains are in constant motion, other elements of the exposition are triggered by individual buttons. Demonstrated are train stops, loading and unloading operations on the sidings, and moments of other activities. The background for this are buildings and structures, forests and roads, other elements of nature and human activity.

In the field of view, immediately from the entrance revolver of the turnstile appears whole line railway facilities, other highways and structures. In the far part there is a railway depot for maintenance and repair of locomotives and rolling stock. By road various cars are going, under the embankment of the track there are tunnels for the passage of trains. A small park complex with a Ferris wheel is also shown, it can be started independently.

Demonstrates a model of a railway in Moscow and the relationship of railway transport with other means of communication. Airfield and passenger terminal do not copy any air harbor, summarizing individual characteristic signs many similar complexes. Shown is the express route, which delivers passengers from the city in the shortest possible time, and the approaching wheeled transport.

The airfield, symbolic in size, contains models of aircraft and auxiliary equipment of the airport. The tunnel under the hill allows long-distance transit traffic. This is followed by a display of cargo operations, where a wheel loader loads bulk material from a stack into freight wagons. The buttons can be used to rearrange the train and start loading. This is especially popular with kids who are delighted with the revival of mechanisms and people.

The model of the railway in Moscow reproduces in a reduced form and city quarters multi-storey buildings, and outgoing from the cities of the route of rails and highways. There was enough space for the countryside, in particular, a glade of aeronautics lovers is depicted. Up close, you can even see the figurines of the flyers lighting the burner to heat the air before the balloon rises.

The grass, shrubs and trees are quite recognizable, reflecting the variety of breeds and crown colors. Not inferior to vegetation and copies of buildings of different architecture and purpose. Highlighted are the factory buildings, which are distinguished by ventilation devices on the roofs, church and high-rise buildings.

Detailed inspection

Religious buildings look very colorful and authentic, especially the white-stone cathedral in the center of the exposition stands out. The meticulously executed copy of the Orthodox cathedral is one of the examples of the high-quality work of the creators of the miniatures. The religious building is located on a hill, this is how the place for the church was usually chosen. The location and construction of the entrance groups, the orientation of the altar apse, the tiers somewhat diminishing in size - everything is reliable and clear.

Inside the temple fence there are human figures, colorful tourists and priests in black robes. Near the path to the church is a miniature model of a tractor with a mower, behind a copse there is a herd of cows grazing. This shot is sharp because it was taken not through glass, but from inside the model. On the contrary, the figures of those visiting the model of the railway in Moscow are blurred because of the glass railing.

It would be superfluous to continue describing the rest of the footage in the same spirit, otherwise our readers will find our own trip boring. To see the model of the railway in Moscow with your own eyes, to show it to your children is much more attractive than the most best reviews... Small children use light and comfortable ladders, and some use their father's shoulders. You will see in miniature everything that is found on the territory of the country when traveling by rail or other.

Highways with ingenious interchanges, railway bridges across large rivers with metal fences, a fantastic shelf with track rails enveloping many floors - all this can be found in this selection of photographs. There is a seaport with cargo ships, access rails and trains, a container platform with a gantry crane-reloader. The circle closes at the already seen airfield, however, I want to return to some fragments again.

Non-standard objects and serial vehicles

Samples of auxiliary railway vehicles are displayed on the tracks. There are not only several types of snowplows, but also other mechanisms. They are indispensable for the construction, repair and maintenance of the track superstructure. These are rail pavers, crushed stone batchers, and railway cranes.

Railroad tracks cannot be laid over mountains, and ridges block the shortest routes. In such cases, it is necessary to punch tunnels through stone barriers, the model of the railway in Moscow demonstrates the model of the Severomuisky tunnel. It stretches over the cliff for more than 15 kilometers, and this is not a world record. The tunnel is more than 50 kilometers long under the English Channel and between the Japanese islands of Hokkaido and Honshu, and the longest is under the Saint Gotthard Pass in the Alps, which brought fame to Suvorov.

Tunneling in the rock used to be done manually, using the downhole method. Now it is done by special mechanisms - roadheaders for horizontal workings. A model of an outlandish iron mole demonstrates in the exposition a model of a railway in Moscow. The section shows the components of the mechanism and the earth's surface above the mine. We placed this exhibit on the windowsill, against the backdrop of the city landscape.

The model of the railway in Moscow allocated shelving units along the perimeter of the walls for the exhibition of models of serial equipment. The shelves start after the tunnel sill and extend to the corner of the room. Presented by different types and modifications of locomotives, from steam locomotives to diesel and electric locomotives, wagons of various designs and purposes.

The models of railway equipment are made indistinguishable from the originals, with elaboration down to the smallest details. However, very close, in the literal sense of the opposite, most of the cars can be seen in reality, on real rails. The Rizhsky railway station is located on its territory, the most representative in Russia.

Model of the railway in Moscow in a different look

The organizers of the institution have provided the opportunity to show visitors a model of the railway in Moscow at night. Twilight sets in in the hall, only information screens are illuminated, and street lighting, illumination of some objects and advertising lights are turned on on the model. There is a complete illusion of a nighttime setting.

Railroad trains and cars are visible by the light of searchlights and headlights, lights are on in some rooms of the houses. City avenues are illuminated by rows of lanterns; outside the city there is almost complete darkness. At the terminal, the windows of the aircraft cabin are illuminated, ready for departure. Flight lights are lit on the wings, and they will emit pulsating light in the sky, indicating the position of the aircraft.

It's military time

In a special way, the layout of the railway in Moscow reflects the theme of the Great Patriotic War, which is devoted to a separate exposition. Floodlights different color illuminate individual objects reflecting the realities of wartime on railways and bridges, which were of strategic importance in the transfer of our troops.

The roads in the occupied territory became the arena of hostilities for partisan demolitionists, derailing enemy echelons.

During wartime, railways became critical objects, their damage became the primary goal of enemy aviation. Close to roads and train stations the largest number of destroyed buildings, camouflage of the transport structure was given priority.

Replenishment soldiers and echelons of military equipment were escorted to the front with flags. At the end of hostilities, the stations became arenas for solemn meetings of the winners, with crowds of greetings and many banners.

Video for the road

For the complete impression of the readers of the review, we suggest watching a short video. It captures a model of a railway in Moscow with moving exhibits and visitors. Two minutes of demonstration is enough to significantly complement the impression of the exposure. In addition to the moving trains, pay attention to the behavior of visitors, especially young ones. The interest is obvious, this is the best campaign for a personal visit.

The model of the railway in Moscow, at the Rizhsky railway station, invites visitors of all ages to the excursion. For toddlers, there are lightweight, safe ladders that the children can carry. Cognitiveness and transport accessibility, the close location of the museum of real railway technology make this object especially attractive.
