DIY table lamp base. DIY lamps and lamps: the best ideas and master classes

The most important element of comfort in a room is the right lighting. At the same time, the lamps fulfill not only a practical, but also an aesthetic function. A beautiful table lamp or sconce can transform a room, give it new features and uniqueness.

There is a huge variety of lighting equipment on sale. However, if desired and with minimal skills, you can independently make an exclusive lamp that reflects the tastes of the owner. This article will discuss how a do-it-yourself table lamp can be made.

Lighting principles

When organizing lighting, one should adhere to the basic principle - full illumination of the entire room or its separate area (in the case of local light). Lighting should be designed to fulfill the following tasks:

  • creating a normal working atmosphere;
  • getting decorative effect(for example, highlighting interior details);
  • emphasizing the merits of the room and hiding its flaws.

A table lamp is an additional light source. Therefore, its function is to illuminate a local area of the room. Most often they are used for work and reading, as well as nightlights.

Design features

The table lamp consists of the following elements:

  1. Electromechanical part. Thanks to electromechanics, the supply of electricity from the network to the lamp holder is achieved.
  2. Support part. Due to this element, an illuminator or reflector is supported.
  3. Illuminator. Represents a lamp under a shade or in a reflector.

In upright luminaires, the main aesthetic is usually the design of the shade, with the upright acting as a complement. In articulated models, the opposite is true.

Electromechanical part

Table lamp wiring diagram includes mains plug, cable, switch and socket. In some cases, there is a voltage controller.

The E27 chuck is installed only on a threaded shank (M10, M12). The chuck for a narrow base (E14) is also placed on the thread (another option is a lamella in the form of a metal strip). The best option for a table lamp is chandelier holders equipped with threaded flanges. Between the flanges, a metal faceplate with a lampshade structure or a hinge retainer clamp is clamped. The illustration below shows the lamp socket options.

During manufacture, special attention is paid to electrical safety. To do this, adhere to the following rules:

  1. The cable should be round, wrapped in a double insulating layer.
  2. Conductive conductors are selected flexible, containing many wires. Suitable cross-section of conductors - from 0.35 sq. mm or more.
  3. Areas where the cable is laid through conductive parts, as well as damp places, are protected with dielectric bushings. Knee or cuffs are also used.
  4. Do not over-tighten the cable inside the fixture.

The figure below shows a schematic diagram of the mechanical elements of the rack lamp support.

Before entering, the cable is tied from the inside with a knot or threaded through the opening of the dielectric washer-retainer. This is done so that after pulling the cable from the outside, it does not lose the integrity of the inside.

Hinge features

The design of a table lamp stand is simple, unlike a hinged bracket. The wire to the lamp holder is fed through non-combustible dielectric elbows. If the link of the hinge is one-piece, the cable is run along the top (right and center). At the same time, they are carefully fixed on the link. In the case of tubular links, the cable is placed inside them. Cable loops are created above the breaks of the links (diameter not less than 60 mm, or from 12 conductor diameters). At the section of the cable transition from the bracket to the illuminator, the loop is larger - from 90 mm, or 20 cable diameters.

The swivel table lamp varies widely, making it difficult to stabilize with a load. Therefore, a hinged table lamp will need screw clamps. For a homemade lamp, you can use, for example, a small carpentry clamp. What is needed is a carpentry, not a locksmith, since the latter are deprived of a soft coating.

To create a holder from a clamp, use a socket of a metal tube (inner diameter - not less than 10 mm, length - 120-150 mm). In the tube, a longitudinal groove is sawn with the same thickness as the clamp holder. The nest is fixed to the clamp using through bolted connections... A metal pin with an eyelet is installed in the socket, which acts as a stationary element of the lower hinge of the bracket.

Note! The clip is made of high-carbon steel so that the clamp does not deform under the pressure of the parts. However, such steel is fragile, so the drill must be made of a strong alloy. Striking the clip with hard objects or trying to bend it is inadmissible.

Reflectors

Only reflectors are suitable for articulated table lamps. The shade is too heavy for this kind of lamp. A parabolic reflector is required as it produces a very even, directional light. The reflector can be purchased or made by hand. Usually only single reflectors are made independently. Moreover, the illumination from them is not the most uniform. But high-quality reflectors (the fourth order of curvature) cannot be made on our own, you will have to buy this part.

The reflector on the articulated arm needs an upper opening for the heated air to escape. Although LED and fluorescent lamps heat up moderately, the product life is still reduced, so the removal of hot air is highly desirable.

Colors and style

The choice of colors for the plafond or lampshade for the lamp is important. The table lamp should be in harmony with the general style of the room. This does not mean that the lamp has to be the same color as the interior. For example, a green lamp is suitable for a dark background - it will give the interior a liveliness.

Other interesting solution- drawing on the plafond of multi-colored lines and geometric shapes. This solution goes well with warm colors.

Most popular color solutions are:

  • beige;
  • sea wave;
  • monochrome tones;
  • black;
  • golden;
  • White;
  • green (the color of the grass);
  • under the wood.

Stylistically, a table lamp can be made in different directions:

  • classic;
  • Art Nouveau;
  • Art Deco;
  • minimalism and hi-tech;
  • modern;
  • empire style;
  • Asian styles (Indian, Japanese, Chinese).

Solutions for different types of premises

Cabinet

The lighting in the office must meet the following requirements:

  • give an intense stream of light for reading and writing;
  • do not exert psychological pressure;
  • consume electricity economically;
  • to be combined with the interior.

For table lamps in business offices, the following design options are usually chosen:

  • opaque spherical lampshades;
  • noir style;
  • restrained colors;
  • classic details;
  • simplicity and functionality;
  • a switch mounted directly on the base of the luminaire.

Suitable colors for the luminaires in the study:

  • green (dark bottle shade);
  • beige;
  • black;
  • polished wood;
  • Navy blue.

Children's room

For children's premises, the following solutions are relevant:

  • dim lighting;
  • moderately bright colors;
  • unusual shapes of lighting fixtures with all kinds of cartoon images or figures.

In the children's room, you should adhere to the following priorities regarding table lamps:

  • lack of easily breakable parts;
  • strength and maximum possible structural integrity;
  • environmental safety of materials;
  • semi-permeability of the plafond (if possible).

Bedroom

A dim light is chosen for the bedroom. Separate bright elements are possible, but the general background is with a predominance of pastel. A table lamp in the bedroom can act as a bedside lamp or illuminate working area if there is one in this room.

Original ideas

Green lamp

The idea of a green table lamp has historical backgrounds. Such a lamp was on the tables of many statesmen. The essence of the green lamp is in its shade, made of glass of the corresponding color. The inside of the glass has a translucent (three-quarters) coating.

To make a green lamp, you need 4300 K housekeeping lamps and U-shaped bulb segments. You also need white acrylic enamel, which is used to treat the bathtubs. The green lamp shade diagram is shown in the figure below.

The dimensions of the lampshade depend on the height of the lamp bulb. For this purpose, the figure has a grid of coordinates. Green light filter made of polyethylene. Reflectors are made from a thin sheet of sheet metal. With the help of a strip of polyvinyl chloride, the outer seam is hidden. Two or three more strips are glued along the vertical axis (after 90-120 degrees). Any suitable structure can be chosen as a stand.

Lamp from plastic bottles

To make a table lamp, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • dry concrete mix;
  • socket, plug, switch and cord;
  • two plastic bottles;
  • sandpaper;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • threaded tube (three-eighths of an inch) and nuts.

Sequence of work:

  1. Cut off the bottoms of the bottles with scissors. Next, we drill the bottle caps. The holes must be such that the threaded pipe will pass through.
  2. We fix the tube on the lid with nuts.
  3. We fasten both bottles together.
  4. We use self-tapping screws to fix the bottles.
  5. Stir the concrete and fill the form with it.
  6. We remove the bottles. To make the plastic easier to remove, we use a hair dryer. We get a ready-made structure based on a concrete mixture
  7. We clean the roughness with sandpaper.
  8. We are laying the wiring.

Film table lamp

You can create an unusual retro-style table lamp using old film. To make it, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • base for the lamp;
  • wire for the frame;
  • a sheet of thick matte paper;
  • glossy glue;
  • old film (black and white or color, transparent x-ray film will also work);
  • roulette;
  • scissors;
  • brush for working with glue.

We carry out the work in the following order:

  1. We apply the film to the lamp shade and measure the required length. You can position the film vertically or horizontally - there is no difference.
  2. Apply a layer of glue to one of the facets of the plafond.
  3. We apply the film along the edge of the plafond edge. Apply the second strip along the other edge. We put the third strip in the middle so that it overlaps the other two.
  4. We apply glue to the attached films. Make sure the negatives fit snugly to the surface.
  5. We dry the plafond and assemble the table lamp. When the glue is completely dry, we join the plafond with the base and turn on the light.

Lamp made of bars

An original table lamp can be made from timber... To create it, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • hacksaw for wood;
  • electric drill;
  • wing nut bolt;
  • gold paint (in a spray can);
  • three wooden bars(one long and two short);
  • cord, bulb with socket, plug.

First, using a hacksaw, cut off three bars. Further, holes are drilled at the ends of two short bars at equal distances from the edge. Also, two holes are made on a long bar: one in the center (for the bolt), the second at the top (for the electrical cord). The distance of the first hole from the edge indicates the angle of inclination of the table lamp. Once the holes are drilled, press the smaller blocks against the long one (parallel). The structure is fixed with a bolt.

Gold paint is applied to the cord and cartridge from a spray can. Next, the dried cord is passed through the upper hole in the long bar and the cartridge is installed. A plug is placed on the remaining end of the cord. The luminaire is ready to use.

Tight-fitting lampshade

The work is done as follows:

  1. Cut out wedges. The smallest allowance for seam flaps is 10-15 mm.
  2. Pull the cover over the frame so that the seams lie flat on the ribs.
  3. The seam cuffs are smoothed on both sides with a knitting needle.
  4. Sew up the cuffs in a line. As a result, each rib should be in the arm-sleeve.
  5. Leave unsewn 1.5 cm of cuffs near the top and bottom rims.
  6. For uniform fitting, the ribs are sheathed with cuffs not around the circumference, but along the largest chord.
  7. Straighten the fabric, fold the lapel located at the bottom. Next, the lower rim is sheathed in the same way as the ribs.
  8. Straighten the fabric again and sew the upper rim.

Other options

There are other options for creating a lampshade for a table lamp, which make it possible to realize original design ideas.

Lacquered paper lamp shade:

  1. A so-called blank is glued from ordinary paper.
  2. The paper is treated with acrylic varnish.
  3. As soon as the varnish dries, the lanolin composition is rubbed into the disc twice.
  4. The blank is entangled with a thread treated with PVA glue.
  5. The work is completed by fixing the lamp shade cover with glue on the frame. The latter includes a lower rim, fastening ties and washers for the chuck.

Synthetic fabric lamp shade:

  1. Using the blank described above, you can make a rigid synthetic fabric lampshade without seams. After cutting out the truncated cone (with a small allowance), the blank is fitted with the resulting cut.
  2. The fabric is secured along the edges with paper clips.
  3. An acrylic compound is applied to the middle of the fabric.
  4. Staples are removed from the dried canvas and the outer edges are processed.
  5. The inner cuffs are trimmed, and fishing line is placed in the bends and fixed with glue.

Also, the lampshade can be made from writing paper. In addition to paper, you need thread, PVA glue, scissors and a sewing needle.

Another option: a lamp shade made of plastic cups. Structural elements are fastened with a stapler.

The lampshade for a lamp made of threads looks very original. A hard ball is used as a mandrel. The mandrel is sequentially lubricated with petroleum jelly and glue. Then a thread is wound on it (at least 100 m of thread will be needed). A special hole is left for the cable and cartridge. After the glue dries, the ball is blown away, and the dried threads form a durable lampshade.

Lighting devices in an apartment should provide two types of lighting: bright and dim. Ceiling-mounted chandeliers usually cope with bright lighting. But what to do when you need to increase the access of light when working at a desk or when reading a book before bed? This is where a table lamp comes in handy. The advantage of such a device is that it does not illuminate the entire room, but only a certain area, without disturbing the rest of the family.

Figure 1. Diagram of the table lamp device.

Today, consumers are offered a wide variety of lamps, but you can make them yourself. In order to assemble a lamp with your own hands, you do not need to be a professional electrician. A great desire and minimal skills will allow you to decorate the apartment with an original and functional piece of furniture. The following methods can be used to make lighting fixtures.

Original bar table lamp

Handmade has always been appreciated by lovers of the exquisite. Now it is very popular, which means that any item made with one's own hand will take its rightful place in the interior of an apartment, for example, an original lamp made of wooden beams (Fig. 1).

To manufacture the device, you will need the following accessories:

  • hacksaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • wing nut bolt;
  • a can of gilded paint;
  • 3 wooden blocks (1 long and 2 short);
  • electrician kit (cord, light bulb, socket, plug).

Figure 2. Sconce connection diagram.

In order to make a lamp, first of all, you need to saw off 3 bars with a hacksaw. Their length can be any, but the condition must be met: the first bar must be larger, and the other two must be shorter and of the same length.

Then a hole is drilled at the ends of the short bars at an equal distance from the edge. Two of the same holes must be made in the long bar: in the middle - for the bolt, and in the upper part - for the power cord. The removal of the first hole from the edge will determine the angle of inclination of the lamp. When the bolt holes are prepared, the short bars are pressed parallel to the long one, and the whole structure is fastened with a bolt with a wing nut.

To give the device an attractive look, the cord and the cartridge must be treated with spray paint. When the paint is dry, the cord is threaded through the top hole in the long bar and a cartridge is mounted on it. A plug for an outlet is attached to the other end of the cord. The lamp is ready. Its laconic but unusual design will successfully decorate your desktop.

Table lamps with homemade lampshades

If an old and unnecessary table lamp is lying around in the pantry, you can give it a second life by making a fashionable lampshade. Such items combine graceful chic and a touch of glamor, and they are extremely easy to make. In addition, the desired degree of illumination can be achieved.

For example, a lamp made of dense fabric will give a soft and diffused light, due to which it can be used as a night sconce (Fig. 2). If threads are used for the lampshade, the lamp can be used to illuminate the work surface.

To craft a soft light lamp, you will need:

  • old lamp with a lampshade;
  • matte paint, matching the color to the interior of the room;
  • soft dense fabric (chintz, satin, etc.);
  • a paper stencil in the form of a circle with a diameter of 10 cm;
  • glue gun.

First of all, it is necessary to prepare strips 10 cm wide from the fabric, then cut them into identical squares. You will need at least 200 squares to cover the lampshade. After that, circles must be cut out of each square using a stencil.

In order for the lamp to match the interior design as much as possible, the old lampshade can be painted with paint. If you apply dye in uneven strokes, the lamp will look more original. While the paint dries, parts should be made from rag circles to create a lampshade.

Each detail should be shaped like a bag or shuttlecock for badminton. To give a part of this shape, the center of the circle must be coated with glue using a glue gun, and then the sides of the circle must be gathered in the center and squeezed.

When the paint dries, the base of the prepared parts is smeared with glue and applied to the lampshade. You can glue the rag round pieces either tightly, or a little looser. The intensity of the illumination depends on this. In order to create additional decoration for the lamp, the edges of the shuttlecocks can be sprinkled with gold or silver paint.

Lamp with dense thread lampshade

To make a lampshade, you will need threads, PVA glue and a balloon.

You can create an unusual table lamp or floor lamp from dense threads. For work, you will need the following items and materials:

  • old lamp without a lampshade;
  • balloon;
  • PVA glue;
  • saucer for glue;
  • thick cotton threads of the desired color.

The work algorithm is extremely simple. First of all, you need to inflate the balloon and tie the hole tightly so that the balloon does not deflate. Then a small amount of glue is poured into the saucer. The threads can be cut into pieces or a single thread can be used by unwinding it from a bobbin.

The main task is to tightly wrap the ball with threads, leaving space at the bottom, in order to then pull out the unnecessary ball. The threads are dipped into the glue, then carefully wrapped around the ball. The coils should fit snugly against each other. You can completely cover the ball with thread or leave gaps. For strength, the ball already covered with threads can be additionally coated with a layer of glue.

Then the product is left to dry completely: this usually takes at least 8-10 hours. When the glue is dry, deflate the balloon and remove it from the resulting structure. A very light and elegant shade that fits over the base of the luminaire. If desired, the lampshade can be decorated with paper butterflies, beads, bugles or braid.

An unusual lamp from old photographic films

The lapma made of photographic films will perfectly fit into the interior in retro style.

You can create an even more unusual lamp using old photographic films. Such a lighting fixture will successfully fit into both the retro-style design and the interior of the room in the Art Nouveau style. For work you need to prepare:

  • base for the lamp;
  • well bendable wire for making the frame;
  • a sheet of thick matte paper;
  • glossy glue for decorative work;
  • old photographic or film strip;
  • centimeter;
  • scissors;
  • glue brush.

Work must begin with the manufacture of a frame for a lampshade.

As a stencil, you can use any object in the shape of a parallelepiped, for example, a cardboard box. Then the end parts of the frame should be pasted over with thick paper.

After that, it is necessary to measure the height of the frame and cut the strips of photographic film into corresponding pieces. Then the frame is well coated with decoupage glue. The strips of film are applied to the paper and held for a while to "set". The film can be glued both vertically and horizontally. In the second case, it is possible to see the images. In addition, the design can be creative and can be placed on or on each side under different angles, or diagonally.

Then you need to give the product time to dry. Take special care to ensure that all corners and ends of the films are glued. After the glue dries, the frame is coated with glue again (already on top of the film). When everything is completely dry, the lampshade must be put on the base. The lamp is ready, it will perfectly decorate the interior of the apartment.

Transforming your interior with custom-made lighting fixtures is both exciting and rewarding. A small luminous detail of the living space invariably attracts attention and the whole life of the house is concentrated around it in the evening and at night.

How to get started

They draw up a step-by-step plan, a sketch of the future device, acquire materials for the installation of electrics and decor, prepare tools and workplace... They carefully study all the points related to safety precautions during the work and operation of the lamp in everyday life.

Unnecessary things that have already been used in the household can become a necessary help for a conceived electrical appliance and with their help you can not only save money, but also give them a second life in designer lamps.

Instructions on how to make a lamp with your own hands

Loft-style lamps (the most simple constructions) are gaining more and more popularity and are well suited to many types of interiors. Factory made fixtures in this style cost a lot. But a person with assembly skills can easily assemble from scratch a 220-volt table lamp with their own hands, combining metal and wood, which is not inferior to them.

For the stand, select a board that is suitable in size, at least 5 cm thick. They are processed in an effort to preserve the natural texture of the tree - they are sanded, covered with wood stain.

To attach the legs in the board, make a hole with a drill (19 mm in diameter) half the thickness and screw the adapter into it. Drill a hole perpendicularly and pull electrical wire... On the other hand, connect the switch and the plug.

To assemble the lamp, they purchase a copper pipe (12 mm), fittings, a lamp holder, a lamp, a can of copper paint, and super glue. Of the tools, a pipe cutter, pliers, screwdrivers are used.

The pipe is cut into pieces - 50.60, 150, 350 mm. A wire is pulled through the longest section and connected to an adater on a stand. Passing a cord through each segment, connect the remaining parts with fittings in the form of the letter "G". For a more stable structure, parts are glued.

The cartridge, previously painted with paint, is disassembled and the insulation is cleaned. Connect ground and phase. An ordinary 220 V light bulb is screwed in. In stores there is a large selection of retro lamps: Edison and LED, suitable in style, but with modern characteristics.

With your own hands, you can assemble a table lamp from LEDs. Their use significantly saves energy, and appearance and the nature of the lighting looks modern and stylish on the table.

What is a dimmer for?

In the loft style, free hanging light bulbs are welcome - both on tables and on walls and even in chandeliers. Depending on the situation, it is appropriate to change their brightness using a dimmer, a device that changes electrical power.

The dimmer changes the interior lighting in a wide range and acts as a switch. There are many types on sale. But if desired, every master can try himself in delicate painstaking work and make a dimmer for a table lamp and other lighting fixtures with his own hands.

Details (triac, dinistor, diode, non-polar capacitor, constant and variable resistors, LED for the indicator) can be purchased in any specialized store... Installation diagrams and algorithms are available on the websites.

How to make a base from a bottle

An interesting option for warming a lamp is a glass bottle. Holes are drilled at the bottom and in the lid with a drill. They are connected to a metal support, laid horizontally, using nuts and washers. An electrical cord is threaded through the holes and brought to the neck of the bottle, connected to the cartridge.

The made cover and cartridge are securely fixed at the top of the bottle neck. The glass can be painted or decorated using the jute filigree technique.

There is another option. If the neck of the bottle is wide and a cartridge is placed in it, then the wire is led out through it and there is no laborious glass drilling operations.

Frames and their decor

The frames are made of various materials - metal, wood, plastic. For DIY making metal frame take a hard wire for the lamp.

With the help of pliers, bending the wire and strengthening it, they create the intended shape. Wrap with cloth, paper, jute. If there is a ready-made metal frame, use it. They change shape with a simple twist.

A metal mesh reinforced around the frame will give additional impetus to the development of creative thought. The mesh is attached to the frame with plastic clothespins and decorated with volumetric elements, for example, plastic clasps.

Jute or decorative rope is passed in longitudinal and transverse stripes so that a braid is obtained, or they are wrapped around the plafond. If necessary, paint with acrylic paints.

Original and spectacular way decorate the lampshade - use the keys to the beer cans. You need to accumulate a lot of them. A cut is made in each key, then folded in half to hang it over the top wire ring. Thus, the first row is obtained. For the two keys of the upper row, the key of the lower row is hooked, etc.

A simple frame is covered with a beautiful fabric suitable for the interior, glued with silicone glue. Corrugated decorative paper looks good. Used plastic bottles and spoons, beads. Fans of patchwork and decoupage open up horizons practical application these techniques. The photo shows do-it-yourself lamps.

In addition to the standard lighting by means of a socket and a bulb, with inside any lampshade is attached with a light, sticky LED strip with a 12V constant voltage source.

What to make a chandelier and how to hang it

You can use junk and specially purchased chandelier materials. It is easy to make plafonds out of them with your own hands, and if you follow the correct connection technique and all sequential steps, it is safe.

The fabrication of frame shades and their decor are discussed above. Let's add that chandeliers made of wood, plastic and cut glass bottles, CDs, tin cans look very impressive.

The chandelier must be hung on a separate rod. Rigid and flexible hangers, special cables provide reliable fastening to the ceiling of even the lightest chandelier.

Disassemble the cartridge, pull the cable, make a loop under the cover and put on a lock washer to prevent accidental pulling out of the cartridge. They are selected and screwed with their own hands into the finished led or Edison lamp holder. Glob lamps with a matte shank and shank work well for bright, but not eye-catching lighting.

By combining various decor techniques and assembly techniques, understanding electrical engineering, you can create amazing and functional lamps that emphasize the style of the interior.

Table lamp assembly technique

Start with a tape measure, marker, pipe cutter, rag, copper pipes, and acetone.

We mark and cut pipes

  • Use a measuring tape and a marker to mark the location where you will cut the copper pipes.
  • Do this carefully, accurately measuring every millimeter, since if the details differ, then in the end they will not be the same size as they should be.

  • Aim the pipe cutter and adjust the pipe diameter with the nut. Watch the copper tube, gradually readjust diameter with nut, so that the closure goes on until the pipe is cut.
  • Then, using acetone and a rag, you can wipe the markings off the pipe.

TIP: Our parts have: 3 cuts of 15 cm, 1 cut of 20 cm, 1 cut of 45 cm, 1 cut of 25 cm. We used 12 tubes. When designing your luminaire, note that the size of the copper elbows will be added.

While the cable is inside, we connect the parts

Paste the parts together and glue with super glue. In order to avoid problems in the future, it is better to glue each part and put it next to each other.

Despite the immediate effect of the glue, prefer to wait a few minutes before continuing to make sure the parts are perfectly glued.

Tip: It will be more convenient to apply the glue if you use a brush. If you want the cover to be at the very top, install it first. This will complete the first part, and the cable will go in the other direction.

  2. Repeat the same process in the plug and switch.
  3. In the switch you will find two pairs of small screws, a cable that you have to cut to the height you want the switch to be and connect to the corresponding sockets by going inside the small screws.
  4. All you have to do is screw in the bulb to make your copper table lamp.

Finally, place the lamp in a corner or place you like and see how it will be a great addition to your interior, illuminating the space!

Master - class: Table lampfrom paper

When I first saw Robert Delta's desk lamp, it was love at first sight! The shape is amazing, it comes in different bright colors, all as I like. I recently wondered, since the accessories were surprisingly durable, why not use them for a lamp?

Here are all the materials used:

  • old lantern or lamp kit
  • template and thick cardboard or paper, you can take polypropylene sheets
  • glue and putty
  • sanding block (medium + fine)
  • wooden block (add weight to the base)

Instruments:

  • artistic ribbons
  • metal ruler / xacto knife
  • drill (can optionally replace the xacto knife)

Lamp technology

  • First, print a pattern (6 pieces of each triangle) (1 from each hexagon).
  • Cut the shapes so they fit snugly against the board. Then use glue to attach the pieces to the back of the mount.
  • Using a metal ruler and a Xacto knife on a cutting board, cut each shape.
  • Put them together.

  • Next, glue the bottom (shapes 2 + 4) to the base (shape 6). The triangles fit nicely together, and if you've done everything right, they'll just fall into place.

Then use small pieces of art tape to stick them together and wait for the glue to dry completely.

TIP: Use super glue, it dries instantly (we used Aleene). Apply glue lightly, and rub off excess.

  1. After gluing the bottom half (shapes 2 + 4 to the base, turn shape 6 upside down (open end down), place the square on a flat surface and let it dry overnight, this will help keep its area.
  2. The next day, start working on the top of the lamp. Glue the 1 + 3 mold, leaving a little hole to insert the lamp inside. The top one (form 5) was glued together with the artistic tape, but it is not yet glued to the form 1 + 3.
  3. Then reinforce the seams with glue on the inside.

Then start working on the base of the fixture.

The level at the bottom of the lamp needs to be made a little larger, so cut a few 1 × 4 to raise it a little. It will also add extra weight, which will give it more stability. Use screws to attach 1 × 4 to the existing metal base. (We swapped the existing rod with one from the other lamp to get its correct height).

Next, drill a hole for the cord and insert the plastic sleeve from the old lamp. The lamp should be disassembled, and the cord and wire should be pulled through the threaded rod of the hole in the new base. Glue it in the center inside the lamp.

At the top (shape 5) mark the center and drill a hole for the center bar. Then stick it in place.

  1. After applying the adhesive, remove the excess and, if necessary, lightly and apply a second coat after sanding.
  2. With a medium grit filler and fine emery cloth, finish with a sanding block. At this point, you will notice its solid base.

After finishing dust removal, apply paint! To cover the top of the threaded rod, use the top of the old lamp - it just slides over the rod. Then put it back in the nest!

That's it, a do-it-yourself table lamp is ready.

A few ideas for creating lampshades

It is enough just to create a lamp from scrap materials for your home or summer cottage.

Idea N1

  • any hollow dish (this can be an old saucepan or flowerpot);
  • wire;
  • polyurethane foam and gloves;
  • paint and brush;
  • sharp knife;
  • pliers.

Place the object taken as a base upside down. Wind the wire around the product the way you want the lampshade to be, since all the turns copy its shape. Put on gloves and squeeze the foam out a little on the frame so that it completely covers the wire, leave to dry.

Then, using a knife, give the contours more evenness and paint in any color. This option will be the best for a street lamp.

Idea N2 - a classic

  • thick wire;
  • pliers;
  • a small bottle of water.

Note!

To make the top center piece, wind a coil of wire onto the bottle, then remove it and cut off the excess. The ends must be fixed so that they form a ring, the diameter of which should allow the cartridge to be threaded at the bottom, and not to let it come out at the top.

Next, you need to make a large outer ring from the wire. You will need four equal pieces of wire to secure it. Connect one edge of each with a small ring, and the other with a large ring. The upper part of the lamp is ready.

The bottom circle of wire will be the largest, it must be attached to the second top one, evenly placing five identical pieces of wire.

To decorate the frame, pass the wire through the second upper ring, giving it a wavy shape, wind it onto the base. Design the bottom ring in the same way.

Note!

On a walk in the forest, take an interesting branch with you, an excellent wood lamp will come out of it. Wash the branch and peel off the bark with a knife, cover with wood varnish. For good stability, screw the lamp to a heavy stand with self-tapping screws, it can also serve as a tree.

A better option is an oak tree, find a broken branch and saw off a circle at least five centimeters thick from it. Cover it with varnish or paint it too.

Making a lampshade with children

There is an option for making a lampshade with children. For the frame, you will need a canister or bottle with a capacity of five liters. You need to roll the paper strips into a tube, it is best to wind them around a pencil or sushi stick, then glue the remaining edge with glue.

These blanks must be glued to the frame in several layers so that there are no gaps. Once the glue is dry, you can put the lampshade over a table lamp or make a ceiling lamp that looks very unusual.

Experienced needlewomen can knit or crochet a lampshade, decorating it with knitted flowers, ribbons.

To give the product the correct shape, you can use a starch solution or ordinary PVA glue. Look at the proposed photos of knitted lamps, how much tenderness and comfort they have!
