A broom made of plastic bottles with your hands step by step. An unusual broom from plastic bottles with your own hands

For some, a plastic soda bottle after drinking the sweet water becomes trash. And for a practical and creative person, plastic is an endless source of inspiration. Today I will show you how to make a broom from plastic bottles do it yourself. The plastic broom is very light and durable and will serve you for a long time.

Work description

For manufacturing, we need different sizes. The density and, consequently, the strength of the broom will depend on the number of bottles. Try to take bottles with the same top for easy assembly.

Bottles need to be prepared. To do this, you must first cut off the bottom and top of the bottle. But for one smaller bottle, we cut off only the bottom, and leave the top. Then we cut the blanks into strips from 0.5 to 2 cm wide. We also need to prepare a couple of caps for assembly. To do this, cut off the threaded ring at the cap from the plastic bottle, and make a hole in the white lid from the jar. Next, we assemble the broom. We string all the other cut blanks onto the smallest bottle. We fix the broom - we put on a white lid on top and screw the ring.
The next step is to flatten our workpiece. With a nail, heated over a fire, we make holes on the broom itself, and we make one hole on the neck of the bottle. For strength, you need to fasten the broom. I could not find a wire at hand and fastened the whole structure with a plastic rope. The last thing left is to make a stalk. I had a suitable stick, but it turned out to be of a smaller diameter. I had to increase the diameter with electrical tape. At the very last stage, you need to fasten the broom handle with self-tapping screws. And ready!

Have you ever seen what a plastic bottle broom looks like? After reading the article to the end, you can make such a broom with your own hands.

Many summer residents who have garden concrete paths or are made of paving slabs know how difficult it is to keep them clean. Especially after rain, when the soil from the shoes dries to the concrete. Only a hard broom will help here. These are on sale, but they are not cheap. Alternatively, you can go to the nearest willow thickets and cut the twigs, which will make a good broom in rustic style.
Is it possible to make such a broom from plastic bottles? Let's try!

We make a broom from plastic bottles with our own hands

Basically, what is a broom? The base to which the flexible rods are attached. Nowadays it is almost impossible to find brooms or brushes made of natural bristles, mostly all of them are synthetic. The same plastic in the form of a fishing line of various thicknesses attached to the base. So, to make a broom yourself, you just need to get the same line.

So, first we need a broom base. An old brush is perfect for this. The base can be plastic or wood.

If you don't have an old brush, it doesn't matter. It is enough just to cut it out of a suitable board 25 - 30 centimeters long, 5 centimeters wide and one and a half to two centimeters thick.

First, you need to "shave" the old brush, that is, remove the remnants of the old bristle from it. This operation is easily performed with a regular office knife. The bristles are cut flush to the base. The fact that bundles of villi remain inside the brush at the points of their attachment to the base will not hurt us at all. The main thing is that the bristles do not stick out.

Now let's start preparing the main raw materials for our future broom - plastic bottles.

For this, plastic bottles of almost any capacity are suitable - from half a liter to three. The main condition is that it be unwrinkled and that it has a cylindrical shape in its central part, without curly grooves, depressions, etc. grooves - stiffeners.

It should also be borne in mind that the thickness of the polyethylene is also different for different bottles. Beer bottles are made thicker than lemonade containers and mineral water... The thickness also depends on the volume of the container - the larger the displacement, the thicker the walls.

So, we take an empty plastic bottle, remove the label, wash it from the inside and dry it. Then we cut it with a clerical knife, as shown in the photo with red lines - we cut off the central cylinder and the neck with the cork. The neck should be cut below the wide ring against which the plug rests. The cone of the neck and the bottom, alas, will not be useful to us. Unless you can make a funnel and a bowl for a cat out of them.

Now, in fact, we need to get a fishing line for making the bristles of our future broom. To do this, it is necessary to cut an even strip from the cylinder. You can, of course, do this with ordinary scissors, but this is a very tedious process. To speed up and facilitate it, it is enough to build a simple cutter.

We make a cutter for obtaining plastic strips from bottles

For the cutter, we need wooden block with a cross section of about 4x4 centimeters and a length of about 20 centimeters. You can also use a piece of an old shovel handle. In the upper part of the bar, with a hacksaw or jigsaw, make a vertical cut in the middle with a depth of 5-6 centimeters. In this cut, the workpiece cylinder will rotate during cutting. If the cut is made smaller, the bottle will jump out of the groove, and deeper, you will have to make great efforts when cutting.

Further, departing from LOWER the edges of the slot are 5 millimeters, strictly perpendicular to the vertical, we make a horizontal cut with a depth of 18 millimeters. This is the place for the knife. A piece of blade from the same clerical knife is used as a knife. We break off a piece with a length slightly less than the width of the bar from the blade, insert it into the slot and fix it with a pair of screws. That's it, our cutter is ready.

Having cut the edge of the cylinder with scissors, we make the beginning of the tape. It is enough to cut a strip 8-10 centimeters long and 5 millimeters wide. Then we insert the beginning of the strip into the cutter UNDER the knife, and insert the bottle into the vertical slot ABOVE with a knife.
Then we take the cutter in left hand, and just pull the right one by the tip of the strip. The bottle rotates in the slot, a neat, even tape comes out from under the knife. The main thing is to pull the tape smoothly, without jerking.

So, we have transformed the cylinder blank into a long plastic tape. By the way, out of interest I measured it: from one bottle with a capacity of two and a half liters, 17 meters of fishing line are obtained. From one and a half liter - about 11 meters.

But the ribbon blank is too soft for the broom and, moreover, continues to maintain the circular shape of the bottle. To give the tape the characteristics we need need to heat it up... This can be done over a candle, blowtorch, or gas torch. I used a regular kitchen gas stove.

Taking a piece of tape in your hands, as far as the range of your arms allows, you need to smoothly and at a uniform speed hold it over the fire source.
As the tape heats up, it straightens, its edges fold inward, and in section it becomes no longer flat, but semicircular. When heating, the main thing is to choose the optimal broaching speed. If you pull quickly, the tape will not have time to heat up and will not straighten. If you delay, you can overheat it and even burn it out - it will simply melt and break.

In the photo above, you can see what kind of soft and twisted tape was on the left before heating, and what it became on the right, hard and straight after. So we got a great, strong line from a plastic bottle! Now all that remains is to assemble the broom.

The entire broom is made up of individual panicles. Their number depends on the size of the base of the future broom. I needed nine brooms for a base from a standard mop.

Cut the finished fishing line with scissors into equal strips 20 centimeters long. We take two cut necks from PET bottles, glue them together. How to cut the necks, I will tell you at the end of the article., there will also be a bonus for those who read it carefully.

We glue the necks together. For this, ordinary glue such as "Moment-classic" or "BF" is suitable.

Attention! I highly do not recommend hard glue like "Super-moment" based on cyanoacrylate. Pay attention to the label of the glue: there should not be an inscription "Not recommended for PET".

After the glue is completely dry, we fill the resulting sleeve with bristles - chopped fishing line.

How many rods are included in one sleeve - I did not count, I just stuffed it tightly until you can insert the rods.

Instead of glue, here you can also use a sealant from a tube - having hardened, it will reliably fix the rods in the sleeve. We return the sleeve to the edge of the bundle and leave it until the glue or sealant is completely dry.

While our brooms are drying, we prepare the base: we screw the plugs to it with self-tapping screws, two screws for each, placing them along the line for using the broom. This ensures that they will not vomit when sweeping. It should be taken into account that due to the protruding wide rings on the bushings of the panicles, the plugs should not be screwed close to each other, but with a certain gap - 4-5 millimeters.

The plugs can be arranged in one line - the broom will turn out to be thin, or it can be zigzag, in which case the working thickness of the bristles will be almost twice as large.

When the brooms are completely dry, we can finally assemble our new broom. To do this, simply screw the panicles into the corks on the base.

It remains to attach a handle to the broom - and you can test! By the way, I don't recommend using normal lungs thin-walled tubular handles from household mops: our broom is brutal, the load on the handle is appropriate, so it's better to put a durable wooden handle.

Practical tests of the broom have shown its excellent working qualities! It perfectly cleans hard surfaces - concrete, asphalt. In one or two passes, the broom tears off even snow compacted by car wheels, which even a snow shovel cannot do.

Using bottles different colors, you can get different color combinations in panicles, and, most importantly, none of the neighbors will have such an exclusive! I'm not even talking about ecology - they made a new broom and empty bottles environment not contaminated.

Now I return to the necks. It is necessary to cut them off from the bottle along the lower edge of the thick ring, which serves as a stop for the cork. But the plastic in this place is too thick to be cut with a clerical knife or scissors.

To speed up and facilitate the process, I used the simplest device. I had to "sacrifice" one cork.

Strictly in the center, I drilled a hole with a diameter of 5 millimeters in it. I inserted a bolt of the same diameter into it, with the head inside the lid, fixed the lid to the bolt with a nut, did not forget to reinforce it with washers. Now it is enough to insert such a template into the drill chuck, screw the neck into it and you can easily cut off the excess polyethylene.

There are two ways of cutting, diametrically opposite. In the first case, I turn on the drill and bring a hacksaw blade for metal to the place of the cut. In the second case, the cartridge, on the contrary, I leave motionless, and cut off the excess with a jigsaw. Both methods are convenient and simple, everyone can choose their favorite.

If the cut is not very smooth, it doesn’t matter, it is easy to sand it with a file or coarse sandpaper. This is also recommended for better adhesion of the bushings to each other.

And now the promised bonus and interesting ideas

If, after making the broom, there are unused necks with corks, do not rush to throw them away.

Glued together, two necks with corks are a great container for all sorts of little things. The main thing is that it is sealed.

This means that, for example, matches, tablets, salt, pepper can be stored in it - and they will remain dry. Three AAA AA batteries fit perfectly into such a container. This means that you will always have a NZ for a country flashlight or receiver. In order not to confuse what container what is in - you don't even need to sign them, it is enough to make them from necks and corks of different colors. Then you will definitely not forget that there is salt in white, and matches in orange ...

And the last idea for today: many summer residents leave the key to the dacha under the floorboard, porch or on the jamb of the door. But bad people know about it and they can take advantage of it in your absence. And if you put the key to the summer house in such a container and just press it into the ground under the window? Yes, no thief will pay attention to the lemonade cork sticking out in the ground, and even more so he will not guess that this is not just an old cork, but a container with a key!

Conclusion

Someone will say: "It was worth it to strain so hard for a penny broom ...". I will not object, but, firstly, the very process of creativity and the creation of new ideas is important to me, and, secondly, having found such a non-trivial use for plastic bottles, having obtained a beautiful and durable tape from them, I have already begun to think about where else it can be applied in the country except as a bristle for a broom.

Or here's another, for example, a bird net. If you combine hard ribbons, like carriers, hang rustling soft spiral strips between them - the cherry and the sirga will get you, not the blackbirds / sparrows. Wrap such a tape over the holes in the fence with the neighboring area, close the cracks under the fence from stray animals with it. Yes, even as fittings to put in concrete mortar, for example, when building paths or secondary buildings ...

Some use half of the bottles as seedling pots, micro-greens for her. There are also special craftsmen - by cutting bottles into rectangular fragments, they build whole greenhouses from them. Or, having typed a certain number of bottles of the same shape and color, they make fences, and even full-fledged fences.

There are still many ideas, I will definitely tell you how I used old bottles in a new capacity at my favorite green country house.

Manufactured in January 2014 in the city of Samara.

P.S. I already have excursions at work to look at it and there are several orders, but I refuse - it is not interesting to repeat what I have gone through.

Probably, there are few people on the planet who would have never heard of plastic bottles. They store and sell a wide variety of products - from drinks to meat.

It is probably impossible to imagine your life without plastic, which is a product of the chemical industry.

Everyone knows how quickly empty containers from drinks, yoghurts and other food products accumulate. The use of plastic bottles is especially popular for storing and distributing carbonated drinks, including beer, since such containers have excellent tightness, then you can use such containers more than once, being sure that the liquid does not leak out during transportation.

Another use for plastic bottles is the ability to make from them different kinds handicrafts, on the invention of which are not only young people, but also practical people.

Believe it or not, you can even make a raft out of them! Due to their volume and tightness, when correctly positioned, they can easily keep the boat afloat, however, trip around the world on the seas and oceans on this type of transport it is better not to go.

Even a week will not be enough to list all types of crafts that can be made from plastic bottles, however, we will talk about only one of them, which will certainly be very useful to people who have their own summer cottage or personal plot.

Now you will learn how you can make a broom from plastic bottles.

Of eighteen two-liter bottles

Materials and tools

  • Eighteen two-liter bottles.
  • Any suitable cutting stick.
  • A piece of wire.
  • Nail.
  • Hammer.
  • Awl.
  • Knife.

How to make

To do this, you will need to devote only two hours of your time.

Take seventeen plastic bottles and cut off the bottom of them, then cut them lengthwise to make strips about half a centimeter wide. Leave about six centimeters to the neck.

Do the same with all the other bottles, except for the eighteenth.

Cut off the necks of sixteen of the already cut bottles, and leave on one.

Now, on a container with an uncut neck, you put on the rest, whose necks are cut off.

From the last bottle that has not yet been touched, cut off an inch, stepping back about fifteen centimeters from above, and put it on all the other bottles already put on.

Using an awl, pierce all the bottles in two places and thread a piece of wire through them.

Twist the ends of the wire. The tip of the stick, which is intended for the cutting, is shaved until it can be pushed into the neck, then inserted into the bottle.

Take a hammer and a nail, then nail the bottleneck to the inserted handle.

That's all.

How to make a broom from pre-cut plastic spirals?

To begin with, you must cut the bottles in the form of spirals, after cutting off the bottom and top of them. We will no longer need the bottoms, but we will come back to the necks.
From the resulting cylinders and cut the spiral shavings approximately half a centimeter wide using a sharp knife or scissors.

The resulting spirals are still not yet rigid enough to make a broom. To give them a solid elastic shape, the spiral must be treated with heat.

To do this, you can use a candle, blowtorch, gas burner or a gas stove in the kitchen.

Straighten the spiral in your hands and evenly hold it over the fire. Choose the correct speed of the tape, the final quality depends on it. When heated, the spiral becomes flat and twisted along.

Cut already processed straight workpieces into segments twenty centimeters long.

Since such a broom consists of separately made small brooms, let's start making them.

Cut off the necks (for example, using a jigsaw) and glue them in pairs. Use glue that does not say "Not recommended for PET" on the label. In order not to choose for a long time, you can use the usual "Moment".

After the glue is completely dry, stuff the sleeves tightly with cut straight blanks.

To prevent the blanks from falling out, pour the same glue into the base and let it freeze.

With the onset of spring, probably every gardener begins to think about cleaning on personal plot accumulated debris, litter and fallen leaves, remnants of old grass and other vegetation. In its assortment, as always: a pitchfork, a rake and a broom. Today we'll talk about the broomstick. Not one rural courtyard and city courtyard can do without it. Therefore, if you do not have such a unit, then you should definitely get one. The easiest way to purchase in a store for a few hundred of our rubles. And there is a slightly more complicated way. For example, make it from soft and elastic branches of twigs, a flexible tree (elm elm, birch fir). Well, and the most incredible to make yourself out of plastic bottles that are in every home. A good positive aspect of the latter method is the respect for nature and our environment by recycling plastic waste. In this article, we'll show you how to make a broom from plastic bottles.

Step-by-step instructions for creating a bottle broom

So, let's get down to the question of how to make a broom from plastic bottles step by step. To get started, we need the following materials:

Eight plastic bottles with a volume of two liters. You can use more, in which case you get better bristles on the brushes and as a result, it will be better to capture debris,

A handle (suitable from an old shovel, hoe, rake or something else, if not, you have to purchase it at a hardware store),

Wire, hammer, nails, stationery knife, awl, stationery scissors and an ax.

Progress:

If you do not know what to make a broom for the yard - then use our information. When all the necessary tools are assembled at hand, then you can get to work.

We cut out the bottom of all plastic eggplants with a clerical knife and cut with clerical scissors into strips along the neck of the eggplant. The width of the strip is half a centimeter, and the length, without cutting to the neck of the bottle, is six to eight centimeters.

We cut out the neck of six eggplants with a clerical knife, and leave the seventh untouched with a neck, onto which we string six eggplants without a neck.

At the eighth eggplant, we cut off the neck of 13-16 centimeters with clerical scissors and string it into seven bottles and pierce two symmetrical holes with an awl. We put a wire into these holes and, on the other hand, gently pull the two ends of the wire together.

We adjust the handle into the neck, if it does not fit, you need to hang it with a hatchet along the diameter of the neck of the plastic bottle and fit it tightly so that you then need to take a hammer and a nail and punch the neck of the bottle and thereby fix it on the cuttings.

That's all, our broom is ready to start working.

Another option for making a broom

Wondering how to make a broom at home? Then rather get acquainted with another version of the product. There is a more sophisticated version of a homemade broom, more like a broom brush. Nothing complicated is required to make it. First you need to get the raw materials from the PET tape bottle using a bottle cutter, and then make a broom from the tape.

And so let's start considering this option. We need:

  • bottle cutter,
  • fused tape from a PET bottle,
  • construction adhesive 88,
  • neck from a plastic eggplant (7 pieces),
  • two-way twist,
  • plastic eggplant lid (7 pieces),
  • screws seven pieces,
  • curly screwdriver,
  • a larger block and a smaller block with a small hole,
  • stalk.

The main device here is the bottle cutter. On the Internet, there are many variations of drawings that can be used in the manufacture of this product.

If not: a bar, a corner, a knife, an ax, then we will need 3 self-tapping screws, a knife blade, 4 nuts and 4 washers. You can use one nut or one washer. And he drank a board or a piece of chipboard (which will be at hand) for the base on which all this will be fastened. You need to take a screw (the length needs to be calculated so that it does not come out on the other side), put on a washer a knife from a clerical knife, a washer and a nut and screw it into the board, similarly the second only the knife will just rest against the screw between the washers.

Then the third screw is taken and fixed from above in the same way as the second, and now the knife blade is not movable, you can try to get the tape. To do this, cut off the bottom of the eggplant, and make a small notch with scissors, after inserting it into this notch, the blade smoothly scrolls, the tip of the tape will come out, and begin to gently pull for it. And after the eggplant, almost all of it turns into a tape, which then needs to be thermally processed. This can be done: on fire, or in water, or construction hairdryer... So that it will sediment and decrease in size.

After heat treatment, the tape has become more durable, it is cut into the same length of 25 centimeters, stuffed tightly and tamped and level the edges into prepared and sanded necks from eggplants in the amount of 7 pieces. We put on a double-sided twist on top, and take out the neck.

While the edge is drying, move on to the second part of the broom-brush. It is necessary to take a block and place 7 lids from under the eggplant on it, then drill a hole in the middle and screw it with a self-tapping screw, and then screw double-sided necks with glued-in tapes from a PET bottle onto these lids. The main part of the broom of the brush is ready, now you need to take another smaller block with a hole and screw it to the larger one with a broom, and insert and fix the handle.

More details about the manufacture of a broom will tell the video:

You can try to clean up the trash.

Finally

Then take the ribbons and (70 centimeters or 140 centimeters from the size of the broom that you will make) fold in two. Then a piece of a branch is inserted into the tape, which is more evenly from the tree as thick as a finger for the stiffness of the handle, they begin to knit like a regular sorghum broom, only the willow twigs are replaced by a tape from a plastic bottle. The resulting screeds, knots and tapes are treated with fire or a construction hairdryer to shrink the plastic and tighten it. As a result, you get a broom that is not inferior to the store one. Plus it will be durable.

We think the considered examples of a broom and a broom will help you in cleaning and cleaning up garbage: at home, in the yard and on the street, and the proposed material will help cleanse the environment of plastic containers (eggplants).

Plastic bottles are a wonderful and versatile material that serves many purposes. Not only do we store liquid in them, but the container can also be useful for all kinds of handicrafts. Some can be purely decorative, while others are useful in practice. One of the possibilities for using plastic bottles is to turn them into a broom. This is a useful device that you need for a home or summer cottage. Instead of buying a broom from the store, you can spend an hour or two manufacturing it.

Everyone has the material, and a trivial set of tools is required. Let's find out how to make yourself a broom from plastic bottles step by step.

Tools and materials for work

It does not take a lot of money to create a broom from a bottle with your own hands. All components are in the house, so you don't have to run to the store. The toolbox is simple and even kids can use them. What will it take to work? Here's a small list:

From such a set of simple things, you get such a practical broom from a plastic bottle.

Now that you have everything you need, you can start creating a product with your own hands.

Creation technology

It will take you about an hour to manufacture, plus or minus. There is nothing difficult in the work. The main thing is to follow the instructions and do the job carefully. For your convenience, we have made step by step instructions that will help you. So, let's look at the creation in stages:

  1. Take the first bottle and utility knife. It must be sharp. Cut off the neck from it, stepping back a few centimeters from the top.

  2. Cut the bottom of the plastic container in the same way.

Advice! Work carefully so as not to injure your hands. Plastic is a soft material, so it lends itself well to processing.

  3. Now you need scissors. Each broom has twigs or stems. Your task is to create these stems. Using scissors, begin to cut the workpiece lengthwise, from bottom to top. The width of each strip is approximately 0.5-1 cm. Do not cut it to the very end. Move just above the middle, leaving about 6 cm from the top.

  4. Treat the rest of the bottles in the same way. Leave only two of them untouched. Please note that the more products there are, the thicker the broom will become. She will more effectively cope with cleansing.

  5. So, at this stage, you have 3 or 5 blanks ready (depending on how much you initially stored), in which the neck is cut off, and the rest is cut into strips. You also have two untouched plastic bottles. Take one of them and, without cutting off the neck, do the same as with the rest.

  6. Your bottle broom is almost complete. Take a piece with a neck and begin to insert it into the inside of each piece made without a neck one by one. A product with a neck will freely enter the prepared hole. Place all workpieces completely.

  7. Basically, the bottom is ready. It remains to bend (flatten) to shape. But, we will not stop at this, but improve it to make it beautiful and practical. Take the remaining bottle, preferably with a high neck, and use a utility knife to cut it in half. We only need the top.

Advice! Do not throw away the lower part, you can make a tabletop or hanging pot, a container for pens, an owl or a ladybug from it.

  8. In the desired part with scissors, make two cuts on each side, opposite each other. Make the cut approximately to the middle of the plastic part.
  9. The finished part must be attached to the blank made from the rest of the bottles.
  10. Using a large nail (50 or 100 mm), sew the product in two places in the horizontal plane. You can use an awl. You need to make an effort. Insert the wire into the holes formed and tie all the layers firmly. It should turn out as shown in the photo.

  11. That's all, the product is almost ready. It remains only to attach a handle to it. The stick should not fit freely into the neck of the bottle, but end-to-end. To control the thickness, trim it with a regular knife.
  12. When the stick enters the neck, it remains to fix it with nails or screws so that it does not fall out and turn around. The nails will securely fasten the handle and the broom will be one piece.
  13. For reliability, it is better to use not one, but two or three nails. They need to be driven into the neck with the inserted handle. For better fixation, you can use small self-tapping screws.

You have successfully created a fixture. A broom made of plastic bottles with your own hands will perfectly cope with the tasks. You can use it to sweep the yard, room, paths, etc. Create several brooms and surprise your friends with your skills.
