Laminate calculation: An online calculator for calculating the amount of material required. How to calculate laminate flooring for a room: formulas and online calculator Calculate how much parquet boards you need online

Renovation of an apartment is quite costly. Owners often have to collect money for building materials and work for some time, so few people want to overpay. Many men prefer laminate flooring. with my own hands... The task is not the most difficult, but you don't have to pay the hired craftsman. In this case, it is very important to correctly calculate the amount flooring... Excessive costs are useless, and the lack of laminate during the installation process can be an unpleasant surprise.

What do you need to know?

The first information needed to accurately calculate the amount of laminate flooring is the area to be renovated. It is best if the owner has a technical passport of the room - there the apartment is shown in all details, indicating the length of all walls and the area of all rooms. If such a document is not available, you can determine the value using a simple mathematical formula.

At the same time, your own measurements are not always such a simple procedure, because the room may have an irregular shape. Niches are able to increase the area of the room, and the protrusions, on the contrary, can be reduced.

Next, you need to decide on the quadrature of the pack of the selected coating. The fact is that some standard size the pack does not exist: each manufacturer determines the size of the boards, as well as their number, at their own discretion. Having chosen the right material, suitable in quality, outward appearance and the price, it is worth clarifying what the dimensions of one board are, and how many boards such a pack contains. Then you need to calculate the number of packages that will be needed to carry out all the work.

However, one should not think that everything is so simple. The resulting value is the minimum number of packs that would be enough if the flooring was used 100%. In reality, this is unlikely, because every master will adjust to the size of the room, and the owner is unlikely to agree that part of the room was lined with scraps of laminate. At least to maintain the beauty of the pattern, the laminate must be taken with a margin. At the same time, the exact amount of such a stock depends not only on the comparability of the sizes of the lamellas and the dimensions of the room, but also on the method of installation.

Laying methods

The layout of individual laminate boards affects not only the aesthetic perception of the room, but also the exact calculation of the amount of consumables required. Store-bought lamellas are unlikely to fit perfectly from wall to wall. It is the scheme according to which the floor will be laid out that determines which part of the board will be cut off as unnecessary. Depending on the pattern, there are three main methods, each of which involves its own approach to calculating the amount of flooring.

Direct laying looks the most economical, since all the cuts of the boards in it are strictly straight, which allows you to use large cuts in other parts of the room.

Although straight styling seems to be the simplest and most unpretentious, it allows for the creation of an uncomplicated symmetrical or asymmetrical pattern. The pattern determines the displacement of adjacent lamellas in relation to each other. No modern craftsman will lay laminate flooring according to the square principle, as was the practice in ancient times with old wooden floors.

With asymmetrical laying, each next row of boards protrudes one way or another in relation to the previous one, the step is always the same - say 20 cm. As a result, straight laying gives the effect of a diagonal pattern. If symmetrical laying was chosen, then after several rows of laminate the direction of displacement changes so that a zigzag pattern is obtained. Contrary to popular belief, the consumption of the laminate in both cases is approximately the same.

Laying laminate flooring diagonally involves a slightly more difficult task and requires slightly but more flooring consumption. Here the lamellas are not located at right angles to the wall, so their cuts are oblique. This severely limits the use of the cut board elsewhere in the room, increasing the risk of sloppy cutting. At diagonal way laying laminate flooring, flooring should be purchased with a large margin.

Much less common is patterned styling, in which the master is not guided by the observance of either a right angle to the walls, or 45 degrees, as in the diagonal method. Few of the owners will dare to perform such a task with their own hands.

But if preference is given to just such an installation, you must be prepared to additionally purchase a significant amount of laminate.

In each case, the calculation formula will be different, therefore, before starting such work, it is better to carefully think again: how exactly the task will be performed. Separately, it should be noted that with patterned styling by an amateur master, the probability of accidental damage to the lamellae during cutting is maximally high. So it is necessary to approach such tests of your own skills with great care.

Displacement amount

A certain displacement of each subsequent row in relation to the previous one allows you to achieve a greater aesthetic result from laying the floor covering. However, it is impossible to determine this value solely from one's own considerations.

It is assumed that too small pieces of lamellas around the edges of the room can damage the flooring, since they are not always able to withstand the load of furniture.

Responsible manufacturers on packages with laminates usually indicate the minimum length and width of a piece of lamella, which can easily withstand a typical load in a residential environment. Nevertheless, not every company treats its consumers with such concern, so you often have to determine the acceptable limits yourself. It is generally accepted that the offset should be between 1/5 and 1/3 of the board length, less than 20 centimeters... This achieves an even load on each lamella.

As a rule, a board adjoining the wall with a narrow end should be no shorter than 30 centimeters, even to the detriment of the pattern. And if it adjoins the wall in length, then its width must necessarily exceed 5 centimeters. In some cases, the dimensions of the room and the dimensions of the lamellas supposedly do not allow this rule to be observed. In this case, it is better to pre-cut the outer boards on both sides so that the minimum dimensions of the boards are still maintained.

In asymmetrical laying with a non-standard offset, craftsmen often lay the scraps left over from the last lamella of the previous row as the beginning of a new row. However, in the case of using too small boards, the floor is likely to swell up soon, or vice versa, its subsidence along the edges of the room.

How to calculate?

Calculating the amount of laminate you need is pretty easy if the room is a perfect rectangle. The length and width of the room should be carefully measured and then multiplied. After that, calculate the total surface area that can be covered with a laminate from one pack.

For example, if the size of the board is 120 by 20 cm, multiply 1.2 m by 0.2 m and we get that one lamella covers 0.24 m2 of the floor. The package usually contains eight lamellas (although this also needs to be specially clarified), which means that the area of the disassembled pack of laminate is 1.92 m2. To determine the need for the number of packs, the area of the room should be simply divided into the area of one pack. You get a figure that allows you to determine the number of packages.

V modern studio apartments often there are rooms of a more complex shape, in which, nevertheless, all walls and all corners are straight. In this case, the calculations are not too complicated. It is better to slightly increase the stock of purchased laminate for such cases: the number of scraps compared to a rectangular room of the same size is guaranteed to increase.

It is necessary to take a stock and focusing on the method of styling:

  • direct laying - 5% of the area;
  • with a diagonal - 10%, it is better for beginners not to regret and immediately buy up to 15%;
  • with patterned - about a third.

The resulting values are rounded up, not down. There is always a risk of damage to several individual lamellas during delivery to the consumer, during cutting or laying. A few extra boards are almost never superfluous. Even if after the completion of the work the owners have a few unnecessary parts left, they can be used in the future to replace damaged parts of the floor.

Drawing is also necessary in cases of diagonal or patterned laying, and as scrupulously as possible, because the correct laying of the pattern and the durability of the repair depend on it. Moreover, such a scheme will give an accurate and final answer to the question of how many squares you need to purchase.

Consideration of grooves and protrusions

In recent years, facade protrusions are becoming less common, but there are many other complex lines in the apartment that create pantries or wardrobes. Regardless of the configuration of the room, remember: any deviation from the rectangular shape always slightly increases the amount of laminate required for flooring.

Material calculation for simple shapes

The measurement of the area of the room is carried out along the walls, where there are no grooves and protrusions. Then the length and width are multiplied with each other. The next step is to determine the area of a ledge or notch in the wall. The scheme is similar - the length and width are measured, multiplied, after which the area of this section becomes known... Further, in the case of a ledge, its area is added to the area of the room, but if we are talking about a built-in wardrobe, it is subtracted.

It is necessary to conditionally divide the premises into several sectors so that each of them is a regular rectangle. After that, the area of each of them is determined, and all values are summed up.

Material calculation for complex shapes

To calculate the area of triangular or round rooms, it would still be reasonable to find a technical passport of the room. Otherwise, it will be necessary to calculate the amount of floor materials by lamellas. To do this, it is necessary to measure all the walls of the room as carefully as possible and try to put them on the diagram. The dimensions must be accurately transferred to the paper, after which the drawing is drawn in such a way that each individual board is marked on it to scale.

Required amount square meters can be calculated in a simplified way, depicting only a part of a room of a specific shape in the drawing.

It should be noted that with the flooring in the niches themselves, everything is not always so simple. In some cases, it makes no sense to lay a laminate in it; a different type of flooring can be used there. In general, there may be no additional flooring in it at all if the storage room is provided for by the layout of the house.

Likewise with the protrusions. If the protrusion is part of a solid wall, and does not provide for penetration from the apartment inside, then it is completely deducted. However, in modern dwellings, the pantry or wardrobe usually plays the role of a protrusion. Even if there is no furniture yet, but it will definitely be and its dimensions are known, the laminate is simply not laid on this place. It is considered a ledge by default. The main thing here is to correctly calculate the area of the future ledge, because the "extra" laminate will make the furniture squint, and the lack of flooring will look very ugly.

Some sliding wardrobes are placed directly on the screed, but do not have a bottom. This design involves laying the laminate directly in the closet. In this case, the amount necessary material should be considered as if there is no protrusion in the room. However, it is worth adding a little more spare slats, as there will be more waste due to the additional wall.

Instructions for calculating the amount of laminate required for a room will be incomplete if not supplemented with several useful tips used by all professionals. Here they are:

  • The most scrupulous method for calculating the required consumables is detailed diagram of the premises in compliance with all scales... Most owners refuse this procedure, because it is complicated and time-consuming, and in an ordinary rectangular room everything can be calculated with simple mathematical formulas. Nevertheless, the masters claim that it is worth drawing a general plan of the premises. It is possible not to comply with the scale, but simply indicate next to the real dimensions of everything depicted.

If there are even small grooves or protrusions in the form of pipes, this will greatly help in the correct calculation.

  • For your own aesthetic pleasure it is better to choose the laminate that you like... If finances are limited, it may be worth optimizing costs by the right choice dimensions: the fewer scraps (and, in general, cutting lines), the less laminate will be needed for laying the floor. In other words, for rooms with a width of 2.6 m, it is logical to choose lamellas with a length of exactly 1.3 m or a couple of centimeters more, in reserve. Then the process will go much faster. It is possible that an increase in savings will be achieved due to a change in the orientation of the lamellas, when, instead of laying along the width, they will fit along the length, and vice versa.
  • An accurate calculation of the amount of laminate is needed to save money, however, it is better to use the unspent finances for the same repairs. Preference should be given to the highest quality material, since it will not only last longer and eliminate the appearance of cracks during cutting. Obviously, damage to each individual lamella increases the chances of purchasing an additional pack of laminate flooring.

  • Before going to the store you should decide in advance on the chosen installation method. The fact is that the assortment of any self-respecting store is wide enough. In a long search for a beautiful or cheaper material, you can completely forget about the differences in product dimensions. different manufacturers... All other accurate calculations of the number of laminate packages should be left for later. They are impossible without a clear understanding of the layout and dimensions of the board.
  • The calculation of the amount of laminate is carried out specifically in order not to buy too much in vain, however the stock hasn't hurt anyone yet. First of all, even the manufacturer himself, through an oversight, sometimes produces defective lamellas - such a product can be cracked or scratched before it leaves the gates of the enterprise. Most likely, the buyer will see this defect at home, but the seller may not agree to exchange the product, citing the fact that the consumer is to blame for the damage. In this case, it is better to have the boards in stock.

In addition, it is not uncommon for the product to be damaged after the sale - it can be scratched during transportation due to uneven roads or careless work of loaders. Damage during installation is not excluded. An inexperienced craftsman can accidentally cut off excess from the board, and a low-quality laminate, even with correct and accurate sawing, can crack.

In a word, at least three additional slats per room will not be superfluous. Even when laid perfectly, they will allow you to replace a worn or damaged board in the future.

According to statistics, laminate is the most popular flooring after tiles and linoleum. This success is quite natural - the material is easy to install, durable enough and does not require scrupulous care.

Of course, the question arises - how to calculate the laminate for a room, how much material is needed for a particular room, etc. We offer three of the most effective ways calculation for any type of premises.

What you need to know to make calculations

The way of laying affects the total amount of laminate and its cost overruns during the laying process.

The calculation of the laminate for a room or any room can be done using several methods. The first is the calculation using mathematical formulas... The second - with the use of automated tools, for example, special calculators and programs.

Both methods allow you to get a fairly accurate, but approximate value, which should be guided when purchasing a laminate. It is important to understand that the result of any calculation does not take into account the amount of laminate used for trimming, scrap or accidental damage during the work.

  • Measure the length and width of the room in which the laminate flooring is planned as accurately as possible. For this, it is more convenient to use a 5-7 m tape measure. If the room has a non-standard shape, then it is most convenient to divide the room into sections (rectangle, square and triangle), measure each individual section and calculate the total area for each of them.
  • Draw a scaled-down diagram or project. On the diagram, mark the entrance to the room, window openings, niches, pipes and central heating radiators. That is, everything that can make some adjustments when laying the coating.
  • Visit a store or outlet and check out the assortment. Pay attention to the length and width of the lamella. Some manufacturers' packages indicate the area covered by one package. Rewrite in a notepad or take a picture of the most sizes suitable material ov.

It is minimal necessary actions, which we recommend to do before proceeding with the calculations of the laminate. Of course, you can sit down and estimate according to the values found on the Internet, but it is not a fact that such a laminate will be in the nearest store.

In the counting process, keep in mind that the minimum material stock for direct laying should be at least 7-10%. For diagonal flooring, it is recommended to take a margin of 15-20%, combined and figured flooring - 25-30%.

Method # 1 - calculation by formulas

This method is the simplest, since to calculate the amount of laminate, simple formulas are used that are known to any person who graduated from school. The final result is approximate, since in the calculations we will operate and round up the initial values in the calculation process.

With a diagonal flooring, it makes sense to divide the room into several sections and count separately

Calculations will be performed in the following order:

  • S1 = A1 * B1, where S1, A1, B1 are the area, length and width of the room.
  • S2 = A2 * B2, where S2, A2, B2 are the area, length and width of the lamella.
  • K = S1 / S2, where S is the number of lamellas.

You do not have to use the notation we have proposed - they introduce an exclusively mathematical order. That is, first it is required, it will calculate the area of the room, then the area of one panel and at the end calculate the total number of boards.

As an example, we will carry out calculations for a room 7 m long and 4 m wide. The room will have a small nook with dimensions 1.2 * 0.3 m. For the nominal size, we take a length of 1292 mm and a width of 194 mm. This is the actual size of the 33 class laminate from Tarkett.

  • 7 * 4 = 28 m2.
  • 1.2 * 0.3 = 0.36 m2.
  • 1.292 * 0.194 = 0.251 m2.
  • 28 + 0.36 / 0.251 = 113 pcs.

As a result, we got that 113 pieces are required for a room with a total area of 28 m2. laminate. Next, you need to translate the number of lamellas. For the laminate we have chosen, this is 8 pcs. packaged. Therefore, you will need - 113/8 - 14.1 packages.

If there are more than one niche or area in the room that overlooks front door, exit or window, then their area is calculated separately. Next, the resulting value is added to the total area (as shown in the example) and the amount of material is calculated.

The disadvantage of this method is that it is well suited only for rooms of the correct shape - a rectangle, square, or a combination of straight shapes. Otherwise, we recommend using the second method.

Method # 2 - calculation taking into account the number of lamellas

Niches and columns make it difficult to calculate, but they can always be measured last.

This method is similar to the method described above, only for calculating the laminate, not the total area of the room and one lamella will be used, but their length and width.

This will allow you to get a more accurate result, but it may differ little from previous calculations due to the small areas of typical premises.

Calculations can be made using the following formulas:

    K1 = A1 / A2, where K1 is the number of panels in length, A1 is the length of the room, A2 is the length of the laminated panel.

    K2 = B1 / B2, where K1 is the number of panels in width, B1 is the width of the room, B2 is the width of the laminated panel.

    K = K1 * K2, where K is the total number of panels.

That is, we need to calculate how many panels are laid along the length and width of the room, and then we will calculate the total number of required canvases. For example, let's take the data from the previous section.

  • 7 / 1,292 = 5,42.
  • 4 / 0,194 = 20,62.
  • 5,42 * 20,62 = 111,76.
  • (1,2 / 1,292) * (0,3 /0,194) = 1,44.
  • 111,76 + 1,44 = 114.

As a result, we get that we need about the same number of panels or - 114/8 = 14.25 packs. We rounded off all values according to the rules of mathematics. The final value is rounded up.

This method of calculation is well suited in cases where the laying of the laminate will take place in several rooms. Substantial savings can be achieved due to the large area, cuttings and flooring with overlapping joints.

From a practical point of view, this method is inconvenient, since it is necessary, it converts the length and width into meters, and operates with fractions. Even though this is simple arithmetic.

Method # 3 - calculation calculator

Detailed diagram for diagonal installation with calculated number of laminate panels

This method is the simplest - to calculate the amount of laminate, a calculator is used, which was made specifically for our site. It uses the standard formula described in the first section.

In addition, we have included a stock of material that is added to the minimum required number of packages and rounded off. To perform calculations, you need to enter the total area of the room, the covered area of one package of material and select the planned installation method.

If you have any comments or suggestions on how the calculator works, write to the administrator and we will make adjustments to his work.

Calculation of skirting boards for laminate

The calculation of the plinth is an easier task. This will require measuring the length and width of the room, as well as the length of the doorway. Then you should find out the footage or the length of one plinth strip. You won't need any special formulas for counting, so let's go straight to practice.

The length of the plinth is equal to the perimeter of the room minus doorways

For the initial data, we will take all the same rooms 7 × 4 m. The length of the doorway is 0.6 m. The length of the plinth mounting strip is 3.6 m.

  • 7 * 2 + 4 * 2 = 22 m - the perimeter of the room.
  • 22 - 0.6 = 21.4 m - the perimeter minus the length of the doorway.
  • 21.4 + 5% = 22.5 - the length of the plinth, taking into account 5% of the material for trimming.
  • 22.5 / 3.6 = 6.25 pcs. - the number of skirting boards.

In our case, it turned out that we would have to buy the 7th plinth strip. This is not very convenient and will cause unnecessary costs, but it will completely block the material spent on trimming and protect us from unwanted damage to the cladding during installation.

Laying laminate flooring is easy enough. Therefore, many of us lay it ourselves. But, how to calculate the consumption of the laminate, so that there is not a lot of surplus left and vice versa - so that it is enough?

This will be discussed in the article.

Calculation methods

There are several techniques for counting material.

Option one

This method is not entirely accurate, but it is often used in everyday life and on industrial construction sites..

  1. To find out the area of a room, you need to multiply its length by its width. For example, these parameters are equal, respectively, 6.5 and 3.25 meters. Therefore: 6.5 ∙ 3.25 = 21.125 square meters.
  2. The room may have a small nook overlooking the corridor, you need to count it too. Let its dimensions be 0.4 × 1.17 m. Therefore: 0.4 ∙ 1.17 = 0.468.
  3. We add the obtained values and we get the total area of the room: 21.125 + 0.468 = 21.593 square meters.
  1. The most common material is 18.5 and 19.5 cm wide.Its length is 1.26 and 1.38 m.
  2. We'll use smaller planks as an example. Let's calculate the area of one laminate board: 0.185 × 1.26 = 0.2331 sq. meters.
  3. Next, we divide the area of the room by the corresponding panel parameter: 21.593: 0.2331 = 92.63 boards.

  1. The number of planks in one package is different, most often the material is packed in 8 pieces. Therefore, our room will need 93: 8 = 11.625 packs.

Method two

This method is optimal if the room does not have straight walls, but have ledges, niches, and columns. To calculate the amount of laminate, let's take a room and panels of the same dimensions as in the first example.

Note!
With this method, one should operate not with the area of the room and the material itself.
In this case, the parameters of their sides are important.

  1. Since the length of the room is 6.5, and the strips are 1.26 meters, therefore: 6.5: 1.26 = 5.158 panels.
  2. The width of the room is 3.25, and the board is 0.185 meters, therefore: 3.25: 0.185 = 17.5 planks.
  3. Round and multiply the values: 18 ∙ 5.5 = 99 boards.
  4. We add the existing nook 0.4 × 1.17 meters: 0.4: 1.185 = 2.16 planks. In other words, you will need to add two more boards. A total of 101 planks will be needed. We count the number of packs: 101: 8 = 12.625 packs.

The difference between the final figures for the first and second calculation methods is 8 boards. Why did it happen?

Note!
This happens because the first method does not take into account waste when installing the coating.
And this is about two square meters.
Based on this circumstance, the second method is more reliable and accurate.

Why, then, is the second method used on large construction projects? Because in most rooms, planks with the same pattern are laid.

The covering in each subsequent room can be started not from a solid row, but from cuts, by sawing the panel lengthwise. In other words, the leftovers from one of the rooms will make up for the fractional number of boards in the next.

It is possible to apply the first version of calculations only when the number of strips in width is an integer, that is, without fractions. For the leftovers from laying the material in length, you can simply add a few boards.

This space will act as expansion joints. Do not forget about different nooks, for example, spades into the corridor, hallway or loggia, balcony.

For example, its width will be equal to 0.35 m, while its length is 100 cm. In this case, you will have to purchase two less boards.

How to calculate a skirting board

  1. Calculate the perimeter of the room.
  2. Subtract the width of all door openings from the resulting figure.
  3. Add 5 percent for cropping.
  4. Divide the value by the size of one staff. Round the result up.

The length of the planks is 2.5 meters.

  1. The perimeter of the room without a door: 6.4 ∙ 2 + 3.1 ∙ 2–0.8 = 18.2 meters.
  2. Add 5 percent for trimming: 18.2 ∙ 0.05 = 0.91 m.
  3. Skirting boards length: 18.2 + 0.91 = 19.11 m.
  4. The required number of strips: 19.11: 2.5 = 7.64 = 8 pieces.

Material counting rules

  1. If you will be installing the planks "in a straight line", then about 5 percent must be added to the required amount of material. They will go for pruning. When laying diagonally, add 10 percent to the figure.
  2. It is necessary to purchase laminated flooring in multiples of packs. Divide the calculated area of the room by the footage of one package.
  3. You can take one laminated plank and attach it to the wall. Do this operation sequentially several times in order to eventually calculate the width and length of the room. Multiply the numbers obtained among yourself and you will find the total area of the room. Do not forget to add at least 5 percent to the total for trimming.

  1. Before calculating the amount of laminate, draw a diagram of the room on a piece of paper. Indicate all the details on it: thresholds, batteries, baseboards, ledges, niches, columns, etc.
  2. Show the layout of the room in detail on the drawing. Add to each of the lines its actual size.

Note!
Important information, how to calculate - how much laminate is needed, correctly.
The area of the room must be measured along the surface of the floors.
This should be done because the walls may be uneven and the area of the room below and above may differ slightly.

  1. It is advisable to purchase planks of those dimensions that will optimally correspond to the size of the room.
  2. Look carefully at the markings and pictures printed on the packaging. They give complete information about the product.
  3. Do not try to skimp on the quality of the material, even if its price is high enough. The higher the product class, the longer the coating will last.
  4. Decide ahead of time which of the ways you will lay the floor cladding. The exact number of strips required for installation depends on the direction of the strips. With the installation method perpendicular to the windows, you will need 5% of the stock of boards, with the diagonal installation method, 10 percent.

  • There is also a curly laminate laying technique. If you choose it, you will have to spend 25/30 percent of the total amount of material trimming. Based on this, although this type of laying of the coating is the most aesthetic, it is at the same time the most uneconomical.
  • Before calculating how much laminate you need, keep in mind that you may come across defective planks. Unscrupulous sellers don't always change them.
  • In the process of transportation, damage to the coating is also possible. Therefore, treat the delivery of the material to the installation site with utmost care.
  • When installing the floor cladding, you can make a mistake, for example, hitting the plank too hard or inserting the locking tongue incorrectly. Therefore, a stock of slats is always needed.

    Output

    You can also calculate the amount of material required for laying with the help of special computer programs. However, such a calculator is not able to take into account all the nuances that arise during the installation of a particular coating. Therefore, it will be most reliable to carry out all the calculations yourself.

    The video in this article will give a more visual representation of the topic under consideration, let's watch!

    One of the most popular coatings today is laminate. With a relatively low price, it fits quickly and looks good. In order not to overpay, but also not to suffer with a drawback, you need a correct calculation of the laminate. How to calculate the amount of laminate flooring by the area of the room, individually and in packs - all this will be discussed. And also - how to make sure that there is a minimum of waste during installation.

    Laminate is laid on the floor of the room, and to find out how much it is needed, you need the laying area. That is, before calculating the laminate,. If the laying of the coating will only be in one room, this can be limited to. If the installation is planned in several rooms, it makes sense to calculate the total area and purchase for two rooms at once or for an entire apartment.

    When determining the area, you will need to measure the width and length of the rooms. This data should be recorded. They will be needed when choosing the parameters of the board - it will be necessary to pick it up so that there are no too small pieces at the end of the row and so that the last row is not too narrow.

    Before calculating the laminate, you need to decide:

    • with the dimensions of the laminated board;
    • with the type of styling.

    Both of these parameters are required. The type of installation directly affects the calculation of the laminate - the supply of laminate, which will be required for trimming and will go to waste, depends on the method. The difference can be significant. For example, 5% -10% for straight deck laying and 30-35% for diagonal with a certain offset.

    The calculation of the laminate depends on the way it is laid. A different amount is required for the same room - due to different costs for pruning

    But how do the dimensions of the laminate affect its calculation? And so that at certain sizes, pieces that are slightly less than half of the board can go into unnecessary segments. Otherwise, you can pick everything up so that with a 5% stock, you will have a sufficient number of whole boards - just in case.

    Laying methods for laminate

    In residential areas, laminate flooring is usually laid either directly (from the light) or diagonally. Less waste with a direct method of laying (up to 10%), more with a diagonal (up to 30%). But diagonal allows you to hide imperfect geometry in the room. Rarely does anyone have the same distance between walls everywhere. Often in the plan, the room looks like a trapezoid, not a rectangle. Oblique laying allows you to level this. Planks placed diagonally also visually increase the width of the room. This is for those cases when you need to make something more acceptable from a long and narrow room, at least externally.

    In each type of laminate installation, there are three ways to move the boards relative to each other:

    In general, these are the most popular schemes. There are also others, but the work there is more difficult, and the expense is even greater. So, we have decided on the type of laying, now we need to deal with the dimensions of the board. And then do the calculation of the laminate.

    Selection of the size of the laminate board

    In any scheme, the amount of laminate waste can be minimized. The fact is that there are no standards regarding the size of this coating. There are very short ones - 30-40 cm long, there are very long ones - 100 cm and more. Also in width. The narrowest laminate is 8 cm wide, the widest is 30-40 cm. The takeoff run is really great. What does it give us? We can adjust the length / width of the board so that very little material is wasted.

    With an offset of 1/2

    It is easier to explain with the example of direct lay schemes. Look. With an offset of 1/2 of the length of the board, there will be no waste at all if you have a whole number of boards along the length of the room. Or whole plus half. You just need to remember that at least 1 cm must be retreated from the walls. This is a technological gap that allows the laminate to increase or decrease depending on temperature and humidity.

    For example, there is a room 380 cm long. We subtract 2 cm for the technological gap, 378 cm remains.

    • 378 cm / 3 pcs = 126 cm;
    • 378 cm / 3.5 pcs = 108 cm;
    • 378 cm / 4 pcs = 94.5 cm;
    • 378 cm / 4.5 pcs = 84 cm;
    • 378 cm / 5 pcs = 75.6 cm;
    • 378 cm / 5.5 pcs = 68.7 cm;
    • 378 cm / 6 pcs = 63 cm.

    With exactly the same length of the board as calculated, there will be no extra pieces. If the actual length is slightly larger, there will be small segments. Which? Count each time. Please note that it is better not to lay all pieces that are less than 20 cm in length - they will fly out. This has been proven by operating experience. They can, of course, be stowed somewhere where they will be pinned down by the furniture leg. But there is no guarantee that the furniture will not move.

    At an offset of 1/3

    When stacking with an offset of 1/3, you will have to count whole, whole +1/3 lengths and whole + 2/3 lengths. To make it a little clearer, just a couple of examples. In the same room, 3 whole boards with a length of 126 cm will lie, as already calculated above. It also fits without a remainder 378 pieces / 3.33 pieces = 113.5 cm or 378 cm / 3.66 pieces = 103.3 cm. Well, further in the same spirit.

    If you do not select the length, there will be small pieces that are only "for throwing away"

    It's the same story with board width. But here it is necessary to select the width. And make sure that the last row is not too narrow - at least 10 cm. And it is better - more.

    How to calculate the amount of laminate flooring by area

    After deciding on the dimensions of the laminated boards, you can calculate the laminate. If the laminate is sold by square meters, it is more convenient to count by the area of the room. You know / have found / calculated the area of the floor on which you will lay the covering. In this figure, you need to add a margin for trimming - this will be required amount... But how much laminate to take "in stock" depends on the type of stacking and the size of the boards. Here's how you can calculate this very stock:

    • When laying straight
      • selected size of boards - 5%;
      • arbitrary size - 10%;
    • Diagonal styling
      • selected size - 15-20%;
      • arbitrary - 25-30%.

    If there are protrusions or columns, they must be subtracted from the stacking area.
    • Straight line with board selection - 16 m² * 1.05 = 16.8 m².
    • Straight line without selection - 16 m² * 1.1 = 17.6 m².
    • Diagonal with selection of the size of the board - from 18.4 m² to 19.2 m².
    • Diagonal without selection - 20 m² to 20.8 m².

    As you can see, the difference is substantial. Especially if the material is expensive. Why not take back to back with an accurate selection? Because all the same, the size of the room is walking. Yes, and you need a few pieces in case something happens during operation. It is not a fact that the same collection will be released after a while. And if there is, the color may not match.

    Calculation of the amount of laminate per piece

    If you need to calculate the amount of laminate by pieces, the calculation is slightly different, but also nothing complicated. It is necessary to calculate the area of one board, then divide the total laying area by this number. And finally, add the same "stock".

    Consider an example, The room is the same - 16 squares, only you need to calculate how many pieces of laminate with a size of 108 * 220 mm will be required for it.

    When calculating the laminate, you should take into account the size of the room and the installation scheme.
    1. First, we convert millimeters to meters (divide by 100). We get the dimensions of the laminated board 1.08 * 0.22 meters.
    2. To find the area of the board, its dimensions must be multiplied: 1.08 * 0.22 = 0.2376 m². It is better not to round the figure, but leave 4 decimal places. Otherwise, the error will be too large.
    3. Now we divide the area of the room by the area of the board: 16 / 0.2376 = 67.3 pieces. That is, if you take it without a stock, you will need 68 laminated boards of this size. The stock is calculated according to the same principle - depending on the chosen styling.

    Laminate flooring is almost not sold by the piece now, but you never know.

    Calculating the number of laminate packs per room

    Sometimes - in some chain stores - they sell laminate in bundles and don't want to share them. You can, of course, look elsewhere, but if the price is attractive, the surplus will go just "in stock". With this form of sale - in bundles - the area of the laminate in the bundle is indicated. The calculation of the laminate in this case is to divide the area of the room by the area of the laminate in the bundle, and then see how much "extra" with this approach will be.

    Let's take an example. It is planned to buy laminate in bundles for the same room with an area of 16 square meters. One pack contains 1.68 m².

    • We find the number of packs. We divide the area of the room by the area of the laminate in the pack. 16 m² / 1.68 m² = 9.52 packs.
    • We'll have to take the whole number of packs, that is, 10 pieces.
    • A little less than half of the pack will go to stock. That is, it is about 5%. This will be sufficient for straight lay. For the diagonal, you will have to take an additional pack.

    Now you know exactly how much laminate to buy. There are ways to quantify for any occasion.

    Sooner or later, all the owners of apartments and private houses are planning to replace the flooring. In this case, you have to choose the most suitable material and calculate the required amount. Quite often, the calculation of the laminate is performed, which refers to expensive coatings. Therefore, its excessive supply will entail additional unjustified costs.

    Some owners make the mistake of purchasing less material, hoping to buy the rest later, when it becomes clear how much laminate is missing before the work is completed. However, in the future it may turn out to be from a different batch, and, despite the same brand, it will differ in shade colors... The best solution to this problem is an accurate preliminary calculation.

    Factors affecting the consumption of laminate

    The consumption of laminated panels in different conditions will differ, even if the premises have the same area. In addition, it is necessary to take into account the basic parameters of this material.

    The thickness of the panels is in the range of 0.6-1.2 cm, the length is 1.26 and 1.38 m. The width of the laminate depends on its pattern:

    • Imitation ceramic tiles- 33 cm;
    • Imitation of natural parquet - 9 cm;
    • Imitation of wooden floors - 18.5 - 19.5 cm.

    These parameters must be taken into account when performing calculations. There is a close relationship between the amount of laminate flooring and the floor space. However, there are other factors that increase the amount of waste and, consequently, the total consumption of panels. One of these factors is the geometry of the room: the more complex it is, the higher the material consumption.

    And has a significant impact. Laminate laid diagonally forms large quantity waste compared to direct circuits. But straight or deck laying can be done along short or long wall... In each case, its own cutting will be used, which affects the material consumption. Curly styling brings waste up to 33% of the area of the room.

    There are other factors as well, such as panel sizes and material quality. Poor quality laminate means defective products that will not be used for installation. By installing the same laminate flooring continuously in all rooms, its overall consumption is significantly reduced compared to different kinds panels purchased for each room separately and further separated by sills.

    Accurate preliminary calculations of the laminate will help to significantly reduce losses. However, they all give only approximate data and do not allow you to completely get rid of waste. In any case, it is recommended to keep the minimum stock of material that may be required in case of unforeseen situations.

    Method number 1 Calculation of laminate for rooms of the correct shape

    This method of calculation is widely used in construction, due to the relatively accurate results obtained regardless of the amount of work. Calculations start by determining the area of the room by multiplying the length by the width. Then, the required material for this room is calculated, taking into account the parameters of the laminate that will be used for laying.

    To determine the total area of the panels, the calculated area of the room must be divided by the area of one panel of the selected type. If the result is a fractional value, it is rounded up. In case of unforeseen situations, it is recommended to make a small additional supply of laminate flooring.

    Laminated panels are packed in bundles. Therefore, when buying, you need to clarify the number of pieces in one pack and only after that calculate their total number. As an example, consider a typical mathematical calculation. The initial data are: the width of the room is 3.6 m, the length is 6 m. Thus, the total area is 21.6 m2.

    After that, the amount of laminate is calculated. To do this, you can use a calculator with a stacking scheme, and if it is not available, calculations are made manually. Laminate will be used with the following parameters: length - 1.26 m, width - 0.185 m. The area of one panel will be 0.23 m2. One package contains 8 panels, so their number is calculated according to the following scheme: 21.6 / 0.23 / 8 = 11.7. Rounding up this result gives you 12 packs of laminate flooring of 21.6 m2.

    Method number 2 Calculation for non-standard premises

    This method of calculation is used in cases where rooms have a non-standard shape, supplemented by various structural elements in the form of columns or protrusions. The first method is also suitable for calculations, however, when adding a large number plots with different areas, the results may be inaccurate, and the calculation process itself will take a long time.

    The method of calculating the second method dispenses with the use of the area of the room and the laminate. The main parameters for calculations are the length and width of the laminate panels. First, the number of panels required for width stacking is calculated. For this purpose, the width of the room is divided by the width of one panel. Exactly the same actions are performed with respect to length indicators. Both results obtained must be multiplied and as a result, you will get the total amount of material, per piece, required for laying on a given area of the room.

    The considered method is considered more accurate, since it allows you to accurately take into account the number of differences in the length and width of the entire room. If there is a protrusion, it must be measured and the area determined. Further, the result obtained is subtracted from the total area of the room, after which the final calculation of the material is performed by any of the considered methods.
