With this method, measurements are also made of the dimensions of the room, but in centimeters, rounding off the fractions of a centimeter to whole values ​​upwards. For example, the length of 420.5 cm is rounded up to 421 cm, the width of 233.7 cm - up to 234 cm, and the height of 267.6 cm - up to 268 cm.

Then, a certain tile is looked after in the retail network and the dimensions of one tile are measured. For example, the tile chosen for the walls has a width of 15 cm, a length of 20 cm, and for the floor they chose ceramic 20 x 20 cm.To calculate how many tiles are needed for wall cladding, the consumption must be calculated for each wall separately.

Piecewise calculation of ceramics for walls

In our example, the bathroom has two walls each measuring 421 x 268 cm and 234 x 268 cm.If the tiles are laid vertically, then 268: 20 = 13, 4 pieces will fit from floor to ceiling. With a minimum width of tile joints, this value should be rounded up to 14 items.

In length, 421: 15 = 28, 06 pieces will fit on one wall, on the second - 234: 15 = 15, 6 pieces. Let's round up to 28 and 16 products.

Suppose the doorway has dimensions of 210 x 80 cm. Its height will fit 210: 20 = 10, 5 pieces. Round down to 10 pieces. The width of the opening will fit 80:15 = 5.33 pcs. Identically round up to 5 items.

Therefore, the area of ​​the doorway corresponds to an area of ​​10x5 = 50 pcs. tiles to be subtracted from the total for the walls: 1232-50 = 1182 pieces.


Piecewise calculation of ceramics on the floor

Let's calculate how many products in the 20x20 cm format will require floor cladding with dimensions of 421x234 cm:

  • 421 cm long: 20 cm = 21.05 ≈ 21 pcs.;
  • 234 cm wide: 20 cm = 11.7 ≈ 12 pcs.

Multiplying these values ​​gives the number of tiles per floor in pieces:

  • 21 x 12 = 252 products.

It is much worse when there was not enough material, but this type is no longer on sale.

One of the most significant repair issues is the correct calculation of the material, especially when it comes to how to calculate the number of tiles. And if it is easy to buy another finishing material, then in the case of tiles, such an opportunity may not be.

It should be said right away that the correct calculation of tiles is an opportunity to save yourself not only from buying unnecessary material, but also from a more serious problem associated with a lack of tiles. The problem is that modern production tiles are quite complex and, if I may say so, an inconstant process, therefore tiles from the same collection in different batches have significant differences in colors, geometry of the ornament and other technical parameters. You don't need to be an expert to understand how this will affect the design of the entire interior.

It is also worth noting that a lack of experience in taking measurements and calculating the area of ​​a room often leads to incorrect calculations; this issue must be taken no less seriously.

Unfortunately, a single and unchanged calculation formula tile does not exist, since in each individual case everything depends on several factors: the size and features of the layout of the room, the dimensions of the tiles and the layout option. But, in general, the calculation schemes will be similar, and you can understand them at simple example... In this case, the average dimensions of the room and material are taken as a basis. The dimensions of the bathroom are 1.73 × 1.73 m, with a ceiling height of 2.6 m. There are no boxes or niches in the bathroom, and only the doorway is from the openings.

The tiles are laid out vertically in the standard way: dark bottom, border and light top with several decors. The dimensions of the floor tiles are 0.335 × 0.335 m; wall - 0.3 × 0.2 m; frieze dimensions - 0.08 × 0.2 m

There are two ways to calculate floor tiles. Some craftsmen determine the required amount of tiles by area.

Bathroom floor tiles

To do this, you need to know the total square of the room, which is calculated using standard geometric formulas, in this case for a square: 1.73 × 1.73 = 3.46 m2, the number is rounded up and an area of ​​3.5 m2 is obtained. Next, you need to find out the area of ​​one floor tiles: 0.335 × 0.335 = 0.112 m2.

Now they determine how many whole tiles are needed to pave the entire area: 3.5 / 0.112 = 31.2 pieces. The quantity is rounded up to 32 and 10% is added for scrap and trimming, in the case of a diagonal layout - 15%. The total is 35 or 37 tiles, respectively.

The second method is considered more accurate, the tiles are calculated by the piece. Calculate how many tiles fit along one side of the floor (width): 1.73 / 0.335 = 5.2 round up to 6. Now calculate the number of tiles that will fit along the adjacent wall (floor length): 1.73 / 0.335 = 5, 2 are also rounded up to 6, in this case the result is the same. From the calculations, it can be seen that 5 whole tiles and trim will be laid along each of the walls.

Now they will find out how much material is required: 6 × 6 = 36 pieces. Taking into account the fact that when rounding off the number increased by almost one, the correction for battle and marriage is introduced only in the case of a diagonal layout - 5%.

Wall tiles

In order to calculate the required number of tiles for the walls, you need to know the perimeter of the bathroom: (1.73 + 1.73) 2 = 6.92 m, round up to 7 m.Now, knowing the length of one tile, they calculate how many pieces will be laid in one row around the perimeter of the room 7 / 0.2 = 35 pcs.
The layout of the tiles in this case implies a dark bottom, as a rule, it is raised to a height of about 1 m.But since there is no need for trimming here, the height may vary depending on the dimensions of the selected tile: 1 / 0.3 = 33, three rows will be the best option.

Determine the total number of dark tiles in three rows: 35 × 3 = 105, add 3 pieces per battle, for a total of 108 dark tiles.
Dark and light tiles are usually separated by a border. The length of the frieze in this case is similar to the length of the tile - 0.2 m, but it fits only in one row, that is, 35 elements are required to lay out the border around the perimeter.

Now you need to calculate the number of rows of light tiles and their total number. It is known that the height of the room is 2.6 m, the height of the dark layer is 0.9 m, and the border is 00.8 m. It turns out 2.6 - 0.9 - 00.8 = 1.62 m - the height of the light layer. The resulting number is divided by the height of the tile and the number of rows is 1.62 / 0.3 = 5.4, that is, 5 rows of a whole tile and a cut under the ceiling.

Find out the total number of light tiles 35 × 5.4 = 189. In this case, the number need not be rounded to 6, since less than half of one tile is used for trimming in the last row. 4 spare tiles are also added to the total.
The layout of the tile assumes the presence of decors in a bright area, only 3 pieces on three walls and 2 elements on a wall with a doorway. Total: (3 × 3) + 2 = 11 elements. This number must be subtracted from the total number of light tiles 193-11 = 182.

Dark bottom, light top - classic

When calculating wall tiles, do not forget about the presence of a doorway, its height is 2 m, width is 0.7 m. A certain number of tiles can be safely subtracted from the total and save a little.
First, they find out how many whole tiles fit on the height of the opening in one row: 2 / 0.3 = 6.6, here they are rounded down to 6 pieces. Now count the number of tiles per door width: 0.7 / 0.2 = 3.5, also round down to 3 tiles.

It is known that the height of the dark layer is 3 rows, 3 × 3 = 9 dark tiles. The frieze has the same length as the tile, respectively, 3 elements fit the width of the doorway.
Now calculate the number of rows of solid light tiles (2-0.9-0.08) / 0.3 = 3.4, that is, 3 rows of light tiles. Determine the number of light tiles that can be subtracted: 3 × 3 = 9 pcs.
The number of extra tiles for window openings as well as for areas that will not be tiled, for example, behind a bathroom.
