DIY scaffolding made of wood. DIY scaffolding

During the construction of the second (and third or even fourth) private houses and cottages, they use special structures - scaffolding. They allow you to work safely at high heights - where ladders cannot be used. Most often, wood is chosen for the manufacture of scaffolding - a material that is more profitable in price and easy to process. Although it is possible to use a metal profile for this.

Material selection

When choosing between metal and wood structures, you should know:

  • to assemble scaffolding from metal you will need special equipment including the welding machine. In addition, the design itself will require more manufacturing time and cost more;
  • wood is easier to work with, and tools used to construct such scaffolding can usually be found in any household. However, the strength of such scaffolds is lower. And for the construction of a high structure, it is dangerous to use them.

Making wooden scaffolding with your own hands, as a rule, is within the power of every owner of a private house taking part in the construction. For the construction of the same metal structure, sometimes you have to turn to specialists. Although when building a house on several floors, in any case, you will need outside help.

Structural elements of scaffolding

The number of popular schemes and methods for making scaffolding from metal profiles or boards reaches several dozen. However, they all consist of the same elements:

  1. Racks located vertically and taking the load from materials and people located on the scaffolding and transferring it to the ground;
  2. Screeds designed to increase the rigidity of the frame and placed diagonally;
  3. Jumpers on which the floorboards are laid. They should be located strictly horizontally (with level checking);
  4. The flooring itself is one of the main parts of the structure, which takes up a large volume and, for economy, is made of thick boards attached to each other.

In addition to the main elements, the drawings of the scaffolding must necessarily include a railing to prevent workers from falling from a height. Special persistent slopes will help to avoid overturning of the structure. Ladders are used to climb to and from the working platform.

Wooden structures

Before assembling wooden scaffolding with your own hands, a diagram must be performed on which several basic dimensions must be indicated:

  • height, the maximum value of which for wood scaffolding should not exceed 6 m;
  • the distance between the supports is usually chosen equal to no more than 2.5 m;
  • the width of the deck. For the convenience of work, this size is taken in the range of 80-100 cm.

Optimal height the first flooring level is about half a meter. This feature provides the maximum level of convenience for builders, whose hands, during bricklaying or other work, are located 30-40 cm below chest level. The second flooring is already placed at a height of 2 meters, the third - about 4 meters. The elevations may vary depending on the size of the building itself.

When starting to construct wood scaffolding, you should purchase the appropriate materials and fasteners. These include a beam with a section of 100 x 100 mm or boards with a thickness of 50 mm and a width of at least 100 mm. For railings, spacers and screeds, you can use a 30 mm edged board. And for the flooring, wooden elements with a thickness of at least 40 mm are taken.

Important: When choosing fasteners, you should know that nails will be cheaper, but they will increase the construction time of the scaffolding. In addition, they are more difficult to remove when disassembling the structure. The use of self-tapping screws will shorten the process, but will make the structure less durable. Therefore, for low structures, nails are chosen, for long and high forests - self-tapping screws for wood.

Construction stages

Manufactured scaffolding from boards and timber in several stages:

  1. Laying out the elements of the future structure on a flat surface and checking their compliance with the height of the scaffolding;
  2. Linking uprights with horizontal jumpers;
  3. Installation of two already assembled frames side by side and their fastening using horizontally and diagonally placed screed boards;
  4. Laying wooden flooring on top of horizontal screeds, with boards fastening to lintels.

Now it remains to fix the railing and fix the ladder, with the help of which the ascent and descent will be carried out. With a long building length, the structure is extended and can consist of a different number of sections - from two to three or four. The frames are connected with boards.

You should know: When assembling wood scaffolding with nails, it is advisable to pre-drill holes for fasteners. This will increase assembly time, but will prevent the boards from splitting.

Metal profile scaffolding

To assemble metal scaffolding with your own hands, you will have to perform approximately the same sequence of actions, choosing standard height and the width of the structures. And the only serious difference is the adapters used to increase the "number of storeys" of the structure. In addition, some of the elements are connected to each other by welding.

Before starting the construction of a metal structure, the preparation of the following materials is required:

  1. Profile pipes of the corresponding section (30 x 30 or 40 x 40 mm), from which the racks will be made. The length of the segments is from 1 to 1.5 meters;
  2. Thin-walled pipes with a diameter of 20 mm, used for the manufacture of screeds. The length of each is 2 meters;
  3. Tubes (25 x 25 or 35 x 35 mm) for support feet and adapters. Length - 2 m.

Railings are most often made from the same profile pipes as adapters. And to create thrust bearings, metal plates up to 4 mm thick are also used. To connect the diagonal braces to each other and to the main scaffold structure, a sufficient number of bolts and nuts are provided.

Assembling the structure

The process of scaffolding from metal begins with the following steps:

  1. Fixing scaffolding racks using an assembly surface (as a rule, OSB sheets are used in this capacity);
  2. Welding of horizontal lintels;
  3. Placing pipe adapters into the upper ends of the metal supports and fixing them by welding.

After removing it from the assembly board and turning the forest 90 degrees over, the structure is again attached to the OSB sheet. The edges of the pipes that will be used for the diagonal braces are flattened and prepared for connection by drilling holes in them. The scaffold ties are fastened to each other in the middle and placed on the uprights, and then secured with bolts and nuts.

At the next stage of the assembly, holes for fasteners are drilled on the railing and supports and the plate-thrust bearings are welded to the pipes. The assembled structure is installed in a vertical position, and thrust bearings are inserted into the lower ends of the pipes. On the horizontal lintels, wooden scaffolds are laid, which it is advisable to additionally secure with steel corners.

When attaching tie rods, it is recommended to install horizontal and diagonal elements on different sides of the frame. If the assembly of the second tier of scaffolds is carried out simultaneously with the construction of the third, additional holes should be drilled in the racks for bolting the thrust slopes. And when scaffolding is built up in the horizontal direction, the sections are attached to each other in the same way bolted connections.

Metal scaffolding "in operation"

During the construction, decoration, repair of low-rise buildings, it is possible to confidently perform the work above only on scaffolding, which it is quite possible to do with your own hands from wood.

It is not profitable for the owners to buy metal structures, because they are expensive and are not used so often.

Homemade scaffolding can be made from material in stock at household plots... If there is not enough of this, you can buy boards and beams, and at the end of construction, use them for other needs.

Materials for forests

It is important to wooden blanks were dry, strong, so the presence of knots, cracks, and other defects on them is unacceptable. If possible, it is advisable to buy materials from spruce, pine usually has more flaws. In principle, you can use any durable wood, the reliability of which needs to be checked on the eve of construction.

To do this, bricks, cinder blocks, and large stones of a suitable shape are placed on two low supports.

You should put a board with a thickness of 30 mm, stand on top of it and jump several times. This should be done by a person with good reaction and coordination in order to safely land on the ground in case of failure. If the board passes the test, it can be used for scaffolding.

To erect a building structure with your own hands, you will also need bars with a square section and a side length of 100 mm, a tape measure, a circular saw will help a lot.

Self-tapping screws and nails

Doubts about the choice of fasteners are understandable. Nails are easy to drive and provide strength to the scaffolding because they have some flexibility to absorb the load. The disadvantage is that building structure almost impossible to disassemble without damaging the wood.

Self-tapping screws are convenient in this regard, they can be unscrewed without damage. wooden surfaces, but they are characterized by great fragility. Black self-tapping screws made of hardened steel alloys can break on impact or simply under weight.

Note! Anodized self-tapping fasteners are somewhat stronger; they can be distinguished from ordinary ones by the greenish tint of the coating.

If the owner often works with his own hands on the site and the wood is needed in the most complete form, you can use anodized self-tapping screws, and to be sure, hammer in only two or three nails at the junctions of the scaffolding, just in case, for insurance.

Design options

You can make wooden scaffolding with your own hands different types, the choice of a specific option depends on the specifics of the upcoming work.

Scaffold

If you plan to decorate the house with light materials, then there are enough scaffolds, for the manufacture of which less material and time are required. There are two types of attached structures, each diagram resembles the letter G.

The location of the building scaffold is different:

  • in one case, the short horizontal part of the letter G rests on the wall, and its vertical part is slightly recessed under the working load into the ground;
  • in the scaffolds of the second type, the vertical part of the letter G abuts against the wall. All weight is concentrated on the thrust elements, the upper part of which is driven into a corner - the junction of the two main bars.

The structure is often called Armenian forests, and the vertical part in them can be shortened, then the scaffolds take the form of a triangle, against the base of which the board rests. All the load is concentrated on it.

Despite the fact that the scaffolds do not seem very reliable, in practice their strength and ease of use have been proven many times over. Triangular scaffolds should be located every meter, if possible, they are nailed to the wall, if there is none, then they are fixed with stops. For safety reasons, the place of immersion of persistent bars into the ground is additionally knocked over with wedges.

To make sure that the scaffolding does not move sideways along the wall, the stops are additionally sewn with bars, which increases the rigidity of the structure. All thrust bars, boards must have a thickness of at least 50 mm, boards are also placed on the flooring with a thickness of at least 50 mm. The horizontal surface is nailed or fixed with self-tapping screws, otherwise it is dangerous to move on them.

Construction goats

Wooden scaffolding with such interesting name are known to everyone, because they are often used both at construction sites and at overhaul apartments. The convenience of building gantries lies in the fact that they do not lean on the wall, they allow cladding with siding and many other facing materials.

Standing on the upper part of the construction gantry, you can fix both the upper and lower parts of the panels, then move the structure and continue working on the adjacent section of the wall. Between the racks of such wooden scaffolding, crossbars are stuffed, they strengthen the structure, and at the same time perform the function of a ladder. The racks on one side can be fixed strictly vertically, which will allow you to place the portable scaffolding close to the wall.

Complete scaffolding

The arrangement of traditional wooden scaffolding has not changed over the years. It is well known to everyone from the films of the Soviet years and posters on which charming girls, standing in the woods, life-affirming smiles at enthusiastically working young men.

To make such scaffolding with your own hands, you will need a lot of lumber, the advantage of the design is that it can withstand a heavy load, allows you to carry out work of any degree of complexity.

Before starting to collect scaffolding, you should stock up in advance with boards 50 mm thick, bars for crossbars up to 1 m long. At the first stage, racks are made of long bars or planks connected by crossbars. Scaffolding will be especially stable if the racks are positioned at an angle, rather than strictly vertical.

Depending on the future load on the flooring, the thickness of the boards on it, the racks are placed at a distance of 1.5 to 2.5 m from each other and reinforced with jibs. The number of crossbars and jibs is never superfluous, the more there are, the more stable the forests will be.

Note! If the height of the structure exceeds 3 m, then the vertical beams of the racks are supported with additional jibs resting on the ground.

Last of all, on the bars located along the perimeter of the racks from above, a flooring of boards is laid, which are carefully examined the day before. The surface is laid in such a way that no cracks or gaps are formed at the joints, it turns out a canvas similar to the floor in wooden huts. On such a floor, workers can confidently focus on their immediate responsibilities without fear of failure. At high altitudes, it is quieter to work in the presence of handrails; they must be made of durable material without cracks or other defects.

Full-fledged construction goats made of lumber can be made with your own hands in a short time if you have work skills and a minimum set of tools, preferably with electrical system nutrition.

Features of metal scaffolding

If you do not find a great desire to make scaffolding made of wood with your own hands, you can purchase a ready-made metal structure. The costs, of course, will be noticeable, but on such scaffolds it is possible to carry out construction work of any degree of complexity with large loads on the supports and decking.

Metal scaffolds are convenient because they can be disassembled with your own hands at the end of construction, folded into a utility room and then used when carrying out renovation works in future.

The industry produces several types of metal structures:

  • pin;
  • clamp;
  • frame;
  • wedge.

In pin scaffolding, pin-shaped hinges are welded on vertical posts, and the crossbars end with hooks designed for connection. The assembly is simple and quick, it is convenient to work on such scaffolding with buildings of standard shapes, if you have to finish the ledges, curly bay windows, it is better to choose a different base.

Forests with a height of no more than 40 m are made from metal pipes, which are fixed with special clamps. Assembly can be done by hand; if necessary, such scaffolding can be easily moved to a new location. It is not recommended to work with very heavy loads on them, because the clamp mountings have load restrictions.

Often, metal scaffolding is produced in the form of modules from frames, which are welded from pipes and reinforced with jibs. The structure can be lengthened and increased in height with the help of additional modules. One section usually has a height of 2 m, a length of one and a half to 3 m, the depth of the horizontal part is usually 1 m.

Wedge scaffolding made of metal has more complex joints, consisting of disks with holes welded to vertical posts, and pipes with special locks that resemble the mouth of predators. The lock is wound on the disk, a wedge is inserted into the matching through hole. Scaffolding can be easily assembled and disassembled with your own hands, transferred wherever required, it is convenient to perform any work on them.

It is necessary to choose the type of scaffolding carefully, taking into account the specifics of the work ahead, the load and financial capabilities. You can buy lumber and make the structure completely with your own hands or buy ready-made hardware, which will only have to be collected.

Making scaffolding with your own hands is the easiest and cheap way perform work at height. Let's figure out how to make homemade forests as reliable and sustainable as possible.

Many construction work is required to be carried out at a height. There are several options for getting scaffolding: rent, order production, do it yourself. The last option saves you a lot of time and money. But the design must be as reliable and safe as possible. We will figure out how to build scaffolding yourself, what material is most preferable and what safety measures must be followed.

Made of wood

Wood is the most widely used material for self-production forests. It has a whole range of advantages:

  • Ease of processing. Working with metal requires certain skills in welding, working with professional power tools and so on, which not everyone has. And working with wood is much easier and at an amateur level any builder can handle the processing of this material.
  • Available tools and fasteners. The work requires the most common set: hammer, screwdriver, screwdriver, hacksaw, drill, screws, nails. All this is available in almost any farm, and if you have to buy something in preparation for work, the costs are low.
  • Comparative cheapness of the material. Even quality wood will cost less than metal pipes. The benefit becomes especially noticeable when building a large structure.
  • Reusable. At the end construction works wooden scaffolding can be disassembled by putting sawn timber into operation. Metal racks will almost certainly gather dust forever in a utility block or closet. Of course, you can then rent them out, but not everyone will want to tinker with this business.

Important: in the manufacture of scaffolding, it is better to use high-quality wood materials. Firstly, it will increase the reliability of the structure. And secondly, it will allow you to use the materials of the dismantled scaffolding in the future. But waste wood, albeit bought at a low price, then only have to be thrown away.

There are also some disadvantages. The main one is the much lower resistance of wooden structures to assembly and disassembly. After two or three such cycles, all that remains is to put the boards on firewood. Metal constructions tolerate disassembly and reassembly much better.

Therefore, wooden structures are the best choice for those who want to build their own house and not engage in construction work in the future. But for those who have plans to build several objects, we recommend opting for metal scaffolding

From a profile pipe

Structures on a frame made of a metal pipe with a flooring of planks will good choice for the construction of several buildings on the same site or for a small construction company. They also have a number of advantages:

  • The sectional design allows scaffolding to grow as needed. Such structures are much easier to modernize for new construction tasks.
  • The ability to quickly dismantle the scaffolding and easily move to a new location.
  • Durability and high strength when properly manufactured.

For the construction of scaffolding, aluminum or steel tubes... The first option is easier, the second has higher strength and reliability indicators. Therefore, if you plan to work at a high altitude or lift a large load on the scaffolding (heavy tools or several workers per section), it is better to opt for steel racks. Standard size sections of such scaffolding are 150 cm high, 100 cm wide and 165-200 cm long (depending on the tasks).

Which is better: nails or screws?

When choosing fasteners, the question always arises: is it better to take nails or screws? Each type of fastener has its own advantages and disadvantages. But the main requirement for fasteners is to ensure the reliability of the connection of the scaffolding elements. Otherwise, the structure may simply fall apart at the most crucial moment, and this is already very dangerous for the builder.

For high strength, nails are much better suited.

For their manufacture, relatively soft grades of carbon steels are used, therefore, under load, they bend, but do not break off. The brittle hardened steel of self-tapping screws is much harder and can break off under heavy load.

If self-tapping screws are nevertheless chosen, preference should be given to anodized products (they have a greenish-yellow color). Such fasteners are less brittle and can carry loads more easily. However, they will still be more brittle than nails. But it is better not to use "black" self-tapping screws made of hardened steel for assembling scaffolding.

The main complaint about nails is the difficulty in dismantling the scaffolding. To combine the advantages of both types of fasteners, you can use a compromise option: assemble the scaffolding using self-tapping screws, and then strengthen the most problematic joints with nails (2-3 pcs.).

To make the nails easier to remove, they use this method: they put small pieces of boards of small thickness under them (you can waste, fragile trimmings). When disassembling, these boards are split, and the protruding nail heads can now be easily picked up with a nail puller.

Required materials and tools

First of all, let us clarify that we are going to talk about making scaffolding from wood. This is the most popular option and the easiest to implement on your own. When working with metal racks, the set of tools will have to be supplemented with a grinder, a welding machine and some other tools.

First of all, you should pay attention to the quality of the lumber used in the work. It is most preferable to use boards and bars, for the manufacture of which the spruce went. The strength of pine wood is about the same, but pine boards should be carefully checked for knots. Pine knots grow in whorls, in such places the wood is greatly weakened. But carefully selected pine lumber will perform just as well as spruce.

It is very easy to check the strength of the board. Fold two posts of three bricks each and place a board on top of them. Stand on top of the board and jump several times. If the board does not break, it is quite capable of supporting your weight as a structural member of the scaffolding.

The main elements from which wood scaffolding is assembled are as follows:

  • Boards with a thickness of 40 - 50 mm. They will be used for the manufacture of flooring.
  • Beam 100 mm x 100 mm. It is used to make racks, thrust braces and other load-bearing structural elements. You can replace such a bar with a board. The width of the board should be 100 mm or more, the thickness - 50 m.
  • Board 30 mm thick (edged) is used for the production of screeds, railings, spacers.

You need to make sure that all lumber is thoroughly dried. The fact is that poorly dried wood can change its shape and distort the structure. And raw wood weighs more. Since the scaffolding is a temporary structure, it is not necessary to pickle the boards with fungicidal compounds and stain.

In addition to lumber, you will need the following set of tools and fasteners:

  • Measuring tool: tape measure, level, pencil for marking.
  • Saw for cutting boards and beams. You can get by with a regular hacksaw, but a circular saw is much better suited to save time.
  • Fasteners: nails 120 mm, self-tapping screws 120 - 150 mm.
  • Assembly tools: drill for drilling holes, screwdriver, screwdriver, hammer, nailer.

If self-tapping screws are used to assemble the scaffolding, it is better to drill holes of a smaller diameter for them before tightening. This reduces the risk that the board will burst when screwed in.

The set of materials for the construction of wooden scaffolding is quite easy to find. But in order not to be distracted in the process of work, you need to prepare everything and carefully check it in advance.

DIY scaffolding. Step-by-step instruction

Scaffolding is assembled in several stages:

The assembly process does not present any particular difficulties. But at each stage, you need to do everything as carefully as possible, checking the strength of each connection and the correct installation of all elements.

To work on hand-made scaffolds, it was safe, and the assembly process was quick, we recommend listening to the experience of professional builders:

  • If there is even the slightest doubt that the strength of the scaffolding is not enough, take the effort and material to install an additional stop or strengthen the connection.
  • You should not endlessly get carried away with increasing the height of the forests. Safely wooden scaffolding can carry no more than three tiers. If you need higher ones, use metal structures.

Self-built wooden scaffolding is an excellent solution for building your own house or carrying out renovations. When properly erected, they are quite safe, and after the completion of construction, they can be disassembled by putting the boards on for other needs.

It is difficult to carry out construction work without loess, especially if it is necessary to carry out them at a high altitude. The design will help you safely climb the elevation, do everything you need to do, put nearby materials that will help you in the business. Rent construction loess from shaped pipe inconvenient, as it will constantly pull funds, which some may not like. Alternatively, you can do the loess yourself. They will be made as convenient for the owner, provide the ability to climb to the desired height.

Types of loess

There are several types of loess that you can do yourself. Suitable for manufacturing metal pipes, can be added to the board design. If you make everything from wood, it will be much cheaper than metal. But such installations will not be able to withstand a significant load, there is a possibility of fracture with a large weight installed on them.

In time, the metal frame will take longer, but gradually the costs of its manufacture will be covered by a reliable service. If necessary, the structure can be disassembled, rebuilt. In addition to wooden ones, there are other types of loess:

1. Clamp. Priority, they are used to work with buildings that have a complex configuration. It is problematic to assemble such products, but there is an option to bend them as required.

2. Wedge. A considerable mass can be stacked on them.

3. Pin headers. It is enough to simply assemble and disassemble them. They will go for small construction work that does not require serious preparation.

4. Frame. Their advantage is lightness, ease of assembly. They can be collected very high, up to 50 meters. They can withstand about 200 kg for each meter of the base surface. In construction, they are used most often, because it is not difficult to make them with your own hands.

Important:DIY construction loess from a profile pipe, should not be subjected to significant loads. It is not recommended to stand on them together.

Loess making

Making a loess from pipes is not difficult at all. To do this, you need to select the required elements, connect them in the correct sequence. To speed up the work, it is recommended to purchase and prepare the required parts in advance. After that, you will only need to do certain actions with them and combine them into one structure.

Loess materials

To make loess, drawings of which are given in the material, you need steel racks and frames. The footrest is made of planks. Can be made of aluminum, but less stress will be obtained. The recommended height of one section is 150 cm, it is most convenient to do about a meter in width. The length will be 1.5-2 meters. In height, it is necessary to make scaffolding depending on the height of the house.

Before starting the assembly of the structure, it is necessary to purchase materials for manufacturing. You will need:

  1. Profiles 1.5 m long and 3x3 cm in cross section. They are suitable for making vertical edges.
  2. Pipes 15 mm in diameter, which will serve for the construction of spacers.
  3. Profile for connecting elements. Section 2.5x2.5 cm. The flooring will be supported on these elements.
  4. Ladder. You can insert a ready-made one, but if not, you can also execute it from a profile.
  5. Bolts, nuts and washers that will hold each element in place. Self-tapping screws to connect wooden parts with them.

For work, you will need to use a drill, grinder or hacksaw for metal, welding. Connections can be made by making threads in the required elements. The ground at the installation site must be well compacted so that there are no distortions during the manufacturing process. If the work takes place in the rain, you should think about making a drainage system. The earth under the loess will be strong, there will be no danger to people at the height.

It is important to remember that even minimal wobble at the joints of parts leads to a strong tilt of the elements higher and the construction may slow down due to the inability to rise to a height. Therefore, all elements must be connected reliably, efficiently.

Loess collection

The construction loess is assembled in the following order:

1. First, you need to cut the workpieces: the diagonal parts that hold the structure together, 2 meters each. They need to be cut along the edges and flattened about 6-7 cm. Horizontal elements - 1 meter each.

2. 2 vertical uprights are connected with spacers. They should be located strictly horizontally.

3. The horizontal parts are connected with ties, at a distance of about 30 cm. Then the boards will be laid there.

4. The connecting parts are secured.

5. Bolt holes must be drilled on the supports.

6. The structure is assembled completely, with boards. Wooden elements are connected with self-tapping screws. The diagrams will help you understand what and how to do.

It makes sense to paint the scaffolds to make them last longer. If the structure is planned to be often disassembled and assembled, you can connect the elements using adapters. It is necessary to cut pipes 3x3 cm by 10 cm. A piece of profile 2.5x2.5 cm is inserted into them and the elements are welded.

Many people think about whether it is worth doing scaffolding on their own. On the one hand, this design is bulky, you have to look for a place to store all the parts. If you make everything out of wood, you can just disassemble the parts, but it takes a long time. Wooden loess is connected only with nails, not self-tapping screws. The boards will be intact after work, they can be used for other needs.

On the other hand, if construction work will be carried out frequently, and the height is at the level of the second floor and beyond, you cannot do without your own loess.

If you decide to build a house, DIY scaffolding can be easily made. This design can be based on wood. Before starting work, it is important to know that the equipment will include support posts, lintels, decks, ladders, and spacers. The last components should be located both vertically and horizontally. It is worth preferring wooden scaffolding, it will be much easier to make them with your own hands than metal ones. However, such forests are not designed for significant loads. After the structure, it will be possible to disassemble and use individual elements for another purpose. However, reassembly is also possible, but the scaffolding will no longer be durable.

Features of the assembly of wooden scaffolding

If you decide to assemble scaffolding with your own hands, then you will need to follow some rules. The structure must be easy to use, which is why a minimum distance of 2 m should be ensured between the posts, while the maximum limit is equivalent to 2.5 meters. The width of the deck should not be less than 1 meter. When choosing a height, you need to be guided by a maximum limit of 6 meters. In order to make it convenient to work, you need to create a drawing.

Preparation of materials and tools

When scaffolding is made by hand, it is important at the initial stage to prepare the entire set of tools and materials. Thus, you cannot do without a square bar with a side of 100 mm. You will also need boards, you need to choose or purchase those that have a thickness equal to 30 millimeters. Nails act as fasteners, but a tape measure will allow you to measure. It is good if the master has a circular saw available. When choosing wood, you need to pay attention to dry and dense enough lumber, which is free from cracks. If you prefer raw wood, then it will significantly weigh down the structure. Among other things, after drying, the structure may deform. For the reason that the equipment is built only for a certain time, its elements do not need to be sanded and treated with antiseptic compounds.

Work on the frame

If the scaffolding will be made by hand, then at the initial stage you need to tackle the frame, while a bar in the amount of four pieces will be used, which must be cut to the height of the scaffolding and laid on an even, if possible, base. The next step is manipulation, in which two beams should be used, each of which has a length of four meters. Two more elements should be 3.6 meters long. These elements should be nailed with inside support beams. Smaller workpieces are reinforced at the top edge, while larger ones are set at the bottom. As a result, you should get trapeziums, which are additionally fixed with diagonal struts.

Frame installation

If scaffolding is made by hand, then the next step will be to raise the frames. They need to be installed vertically and temporarily fixed with sidewalls. The spacing between the lower edges of the posts should be equivalent to 1.15 meters. The distance between the top edges should be equal to 1 meter. It is important to analyze how correct the side parts are in relation to the horizontal surface. If everything turned out to be correct, then the frame can be knocked down with nails. Finished scaffolding should take the shape of a pyramid, and its side parts should be placed strictly horizontally and made of timber.

Installation of flooring

If you decide to make scaffolding with your own hands from wood, you need to attach the boards that make up the flooring to the upper bars that are located across. It is better to fix them according to the width of the frame. The elements should be laid close to each other, leaving no gaps at the joints. In the side parts of the frame, additional transverse elements should be fixed, which will be convenient to use as a ladder.

Alternative option for making scaffolding

DIY scaffolding from wood can be made using different technologies. You can use the one that you developed yourself. For work, you should prepare lumber of different sections and sizes. For example, horizontal decking should be made of more massive boards, their thickness should be equal to 50 millimeters. But the stiffeners can be made of boards, the thickness of which varies from 25 millimeters. Fencing slats can have this parameter from 20 millimeters and above. Some experts still recommend treating wood with anti-rot and mold compounds. This is true if you have planned not only the construction of a house, but also other structures on the site. If you are thinking about how to make scaffolding with your own hands, then you can use the recommendations of a specialist. They advise to make the end faces of the structure at a converging angle, which should increase the stability of the scaffolding. Among other things, these elements will not interfere with the repair work.

Conclusion

Bearing supports, based on a beam with a section of 10x10 cm, should preferably be reinforced, since elements of a smaller section reduce the strength of such a structure. When doing scaffolding with your own hands, it is recommended to look at photos of such structures in advance. The minimum allowable width is 50 centimeters. Whereas the length can reach four meters. If you exceed the height recommended above, there is a risk of the structure tipping over. If possible, it is recommended to stock up on electrical tools, otherwise the work will take a long time. Self-tapping screws can be used when attaching the side parts to the support beams. However, some masters advise against doing this. If scaffolding is made from boards with their own hands, then safety is the most important requirement. This is due to the fact that such structures can have a rather impressive height, falling from them can cause serious injury. That is why you should not save on lumber, you should only purchase high-quality and well-dried wood. Only by observing these rules will it be possible to achieve an excellent result, which implies the strength and reliability of the scaffolding. Such structures can be operated even for more than one year, despite the fact that they will be exposed to negative external influences.
