Professional approach in choosing a roller for painting. How to choose a paint roller - types, sizes and tips how to choose the right tool for painting Paint roller

Velor.

His coat consists of very fine pile. It may be slightly different, but everywhere the length of the hairs will be approximately one to three millimeters. It is not suitable for ceilings and walls as it absorbs very little paint. Therefore, it takes a very long time to paint them, it is laborious. There will be stripes, skipped sections. A large amount of paint will drip, drip. Therefore, you are guaranteed an increased fluid consumption. It is even more inconvenient to prime them.
D Why do you need a velor roller?
It is best suited for working with varnish. It perfectly applies, rolls the varnish onto the parquet, wooden doors, wooden tables. (any wooden smooth, flat structures). The varnished surface will be almost the same as from the spray gun.

With coarse pile.

Their pile length is from one and a half to two or more centimeters. They are excellent for textured, embossed decorative coatings. For example, facade decorative coatings. Thanks to the coarse pile, all pits, potholes, and any small irregularities on the surface are soaked the first time. It is possible to roll wallpaper glue on walls and wallpaper, but not always. He applies the glue in a thick layer, so a lot of glue can come out from under the wallpaper after smoothing. Also, the wallpaper can be strongly deformed and even tear when ironing. It can be primed, but thick, long hairs do not hold it well. Consequently, a significant portion of the liquid may end up on the floor.

Medium pile.

They are the most versatile of all. The hairs are about one centimeter long. It is soft, so it even holds the primer well. A flat area, decorative coatings with a slight relief pass perfectly. Shagreen on the surface after painting remains small, the most optimal. Fur coats for them are also made from natural materials(sheepskin). When painting ceilings and walls, not a single fallen hair remains on the surface. They are durable and suitable for priming, painting, wallpapering.

Foam rubber.

We do not recommend painting with them. The liquid is squeezed out strongly. Sometimes, instead of spinning, it just slides over the surface. The foam can roll to one side. You can apply wallpaper glue to them, but keep in mind that old foam rubber is destroyed. In practice, there was one very unpleasant case: after gluing thin, smooth wallpaper in a certain direction of the sun's rays, the entire wall turned out to be in small bumps. It looked terrible. I had to re-glue the wallpaper. As it turned out, under the wallpaper there were many very small pieces of foam rubber. This kind of debris is very difficult to spot in the glue, as the wallpaper glue has a yellowish tint. But among these rollers there is one for priming absolutely any surfaces.

He has a thick foam coat. The main shaft diameter is only 10mm. The diameter of the fur coat is 60-70 mm. They are perfect for priming any irregularities, brick walls, corners. It holds the primer and distributes it evenly over the surface. There are also thin rollers 100 mm wide with medium pile.

They are convenient for painting narrow slopes, niches, hard-to-reach places.

The main advantage of a roller over a paint brush is that it allows you to cover a much larger surface area for processing. It is much more profitable to paint walls, ceilings with such a tool, as well as to process wide panels, to apply paint to various products.

There are times when he is inferior to brushes in performing some work, for example, in painting over hard-to-reach places, corners, lines of conjugation of structures, but basically it is the roller that can significantly reduce the time painting works.

Based on the desire to get as much pleasure from work as possible, and not to turn it into a long painful process, people strive to acquire convenient, high-quality tools.

This also applies to rollers. You always want to know in advance which roller is better. Their quality largely determines the ease of work. In this regard, you need to carefully look at the main elements of the tool: a fur coat, a cylinder.

Varieties of fur coats

In the modern construction market, you can buy rollers of any type and for any work. The difference between the products lies in the type of material used to sew the fur coat. Most often, foam rubber, fur, velor, polyamide are used in the work.

Foam roller

The cheapest option is to sew a foam rubber coat. It is excellent for priming surfaces with water-based paints. But for an aqueous emulsion, this type of coat is not suitable.

The main advantage of a foam roller is its low price. At the same time, it is not recommended to take it for painting walls and ceilings, since it forms splashes and stripes during rolling. But to paint carpentry is a nice thing to paint.

Such a roller will paint a wooden window in just five minutes. The main thing is to pre-seal the perimeter of the glass, adjacent to the glazing beads, with masking tape.

Fur coat

Fur as the main coating of the tool is convenient for working with any formulations. With water-based and oil-based. The fur surface perfectly absorbs paint, does not create bubbles on the work surface and evenly applies and rolls the composition. With such a tool it is good to mask the places where cracks, chips, small depressions appear.

Among the disadvantages of a fur dyeing roller is the possibility of partial loss of lint during dyeing. It is worthwhile to carefully select fur coats of this type. If you save money and buy a cheaper option, you will need to get ready to clean the numerous fluffs from the treated surface.

Roller with a velor fur coat

Velor, in terms of its properties and quality of surface staining, is on a par with the fur coating of the tool. To some extent, he even surpasses him. Painting with a velor coat makes the surface smooth after drying. This coat is great for spilling wooden surfaces(parquet, floorboards).

How to understand the size of the tool

The rollers have their own size division. To have a visual representation on this topic, you can view a photo of paint rollers. You will find that having different options makes your workflow a lot easier. Comfortable conditions are created for working with the tool.

First of all, the dimensions of the main part - the cylinder - are taken into account. The knob parameters are less important. This attribute breaks down instruments into the following types:

  • Type - mini. The cylinder has a diameter of no more than 9 cm and a height of about 15 cm. The product is suitable for painting surfaces in hard-to-reach places.
  • Type - midi. The diameter is the same, but the height is increased to 20 cm. The tool is universal and is recommended for finishing walls, ceilings and other wide surfaces. An additional plus the light weight of the roller is considered.
  • Type-maxi. The length of the roller reaches 30 cm, and the diameter value is 8 cm. Such a roller is a professional tool. Accordingly, its price will be significantly higher than the previous types.

Such a tool can be used both for internal work and for external facade ones.

Separation of rollers by functional types

According to their functional characteristics, the rollers are divided into several groups. By the location of the working surface, the tool is referred to as intended for internal processes and external.

For example:

  • Facade rollers. They have an intermediate padding as an interlayer. Due to this, uniform sliding is achieved, excluding paint splashing.
  • Textured rollers. The top cover of the cylinder can be rubber, plastic, metal, fur, and so on. Designed to create relief patterns. They are used when applying decorative plaster compositions.
  • Needle rollers. Indispensable when working with polymer floor coverings. Roll the mixture quickly and evenly over the floor surface, hiding all small cracks.
  • Rubber roller. Professionals work with such a tool. This is one of the varieties of textured appearance, also associated with the application decorative plaster.

Photo of paint rollers

Today there is a huge selection of a wide variety of tools for applying paint to walls, ceilings or other elements of the house, but, of course, the paint roller is especially popular. On the modern market, a fairly wide selection of rollers is offered, which differ, both externally and in technical specifications, so which one should you opt for?

General information

The paint roller is the most important tool for the painter. In addition to being user-friendly, it can also be praised for its relative speed in various painting tasks, and it is quite affordable for the price. It consists of a roller and a yoke (handle). In turn, the rollers can be divided into monolithic and collapsible, there are also options with studs, bearings and frames.

The main types of paint rollers

So, before proceeding with the choice of a roller, you must have an idea of their types. For example, domestic tools are marked with letters, the first of them is the letter B, which means the word "roller", the second letter denotes the material from which its fur coat is made, and the third letter is the area where it is used.

Imported rollers are divided into:

  • Mini-rollers (in most cases they are used for painting corners and other hard-to-reach places).
  • Midi-rollers (the most common type among painters).
  • Special rollers (used for painting structural materials, aggressive and wavy surfaces).

According to the material "Fur coats" rollers are divided into:

  • Polyamide (perlon)
  • Paint roller polyacryl (kanekaron, modacryl, meryl).
  • Natural fur materials.
  • Vestan, yellow vestan, foam rubber, polyester.

Classification of rollers and their fields of application

Paint roller with foam rubber

They are used in the process of working with varnishes, primers and water-based paints. Due to the structure of the foam rubber, during the painting process, air bubbles are formed, which, bursting, create an uneven surface.

Painting roller velor

Used when applying emulsions and oil paints... It can be used to paint any surface evenly, without frequent dipping in paint.

Paint roller fur

Thanks to natural fur, the rollers evenly apply paint to the surface, and they are also much more durable than artificial ones. Such instruments are divided according to the length of the pile. It is worth remembering that the longer the pile, the better the painting of rough and uneven surfaces will be. These rollers are ideal for applying enamels and oil paints. It is also worth remembering that before working with such a tool, it is advisable to wet it in advance in order to reduce the stiffness of the pile.

Textured or patterned paint roller

Such rollers can be with a wide variety of textures, for example, in the form of holes, patterns, and so on. They are ideal for creating varied decorative effects are most commonly used with textured finishes.

Frame paint rollers

Their main difference from the rest is that their "fur coat" is not worn on a cylinder, but on a special frame made of plastic or wire. These tools are quite cheap. They are ideal for working with intricate interiors.

Wallpaper roller

To apply glue to the wallpaper, it is necessary to use a foam rubber paint roller, the price of which is relatively low. In order to smooth the wallpaper, a rubber one is suitable, and in order to paint wallpaper, a tool with a medium long pile would be an ideal option.

Facade rollers

They are rollers with an intermediate padding layer, due to which it is possible to achieve slow sliding and no paint splatter.

Basic rules for choosing paint rollers

When choosing a paint roller, you do not need to look at it appearance and also not listen to the advice of sellers who just need to get rid of stale goods. So how do you choose the right paint roller?

  1. First of all, you need to pay attention to its weight. Today, tools are sold that cannot be held overhead for more than two minutes. Only professionals can take off. But if any doubts arise during the purchase, then it is also necessary to take into account the fact that in the process of work it will be saturated with paint, due to which it will become even harder.
  2. The color of the "fur coat" should be made in light colors, since the dark pile may fade after a while. And if the "fur coat" is made of substandard materials, then the pile may fall out and remain on the painted surfaces, which will cause a lot of inconvenience.
  3. It is best to opt for those paint rollers that have no seams. In the process of applying paint, such tools will leave marks, which will require many coats to be removed.
  4. In the process of such a choice, it is also necessary to check how comfortable the handle is. Taking it in hand, there should be a feeling that all fingers are in place.

Before you start turning your apartment or house into a real palace, you need to pay due time and attention to the choice of a roller, since any work should be enjoyable, especially when it comes to renovating your own living quarters.

How to choose a paint roller? Any such tool turns the boring work of decorating a room into a creative process. Rollers are available in a wide variety of designs and sizes. When choosing a product, it is necessary to take into account the task at hand. How to paint with a roller, the article will tell you the tricks of their use.

The simplest roller for painting ceilings or walls is a wooden or plastic cylinder with a full-length hole; bushings in the form of washers made of copper or other material are installed on its ends. The product is equipped with a shaft with a handle.

A stop is installed at one end of the axis, a thread is cut under a nut with a washer at the other, or a cotter pin is installed. A cover or nozzle is put on and fixed on the roller. During assembly, the cylinder must rotate freely around the axis, preventing it from jumping off.

With this design:

  • Performance is greatly improved.
  • The shading of paints changes qualitatively.
  • The formulations can be applied on any substrate.
  • No dripping or splashing on other surfaces.
  • No lint or hair remains on the layer after application.
  • The coating is carried out evenly, without any traces of the cover material on the roller.

Rollers and mini-rollers are made of various materials: natural whitewash, velor or artificial:

  • Polyamide rollers all types of paints are applied, made on bases that contain solvents or water-dispersion compositions. Such material is capable of absorbing and giving off paint well. It is easy to clean, does not require special care, and is resistant to aggressive elements that make up the paint.

Polyamide is a fairly wear-resistant material that allows you to achieve excellent results when painting surfaces with any type of paint. Convenient pile length, fine thread structure allow you to paint uneven, rough, bumpy surfaces.

  • Polyacrylic roller used when applying water-based formulations or for paints and varnishes all types with limited quantities of solvents. Polyacryl has similar properties to polyamide, but with less wear resistance and poorer coating quality.

They have a long service life, best suited for semi-rough surfaces, but also suitable for rough and smooth surfaces.

  • Polyester roller dispersion paints, compositions for walls and ceilings are applied. Such a material with a homogeneous fiber structure has the least resistance to wear.
  • Foam roller for painting it is used for painting surfaces with water-based adhesives. It is absolutely not suitable for enamels, oil paints and varnishes. This is due to the fact that the solvents included in their composition corrode the foam rubber, and pieces of material remain on the painted surface.
  • Roller with fur attachment used for enamels, varnishes and oil paints. The most uniform paint application is ensured by the lacquered rollers.
  • Velours helps to get a fairly smooth surface. It is natural or with the addition of synthetics, a material with a homogeneous structure, with a short nap, ideal for covering smooth surfaces, allows you to create a uniform, good quality layer.
  • Structural beads are used for applying plasters and structural paints to give the surface a textured fine-grained coating.
  • Pressing rubber rollers are used for smoothing. With their help, you can expel air from under the wallpaper, roll seams, evenly distribute glue on the surface.
  • Plastic clamping products used for rolling wallpaper seams.
  • Needle roller It is used for perforating drywall and removing wallpaper.
  • Roller for self-leveling floor painting... Serves for rolling the face layers of uncured composition, for removing air or deaeration.
  • Roller for decorative painting intended for applying plaster and thick paint, to obtain a relief surface (see Rollers for decorative plaster and creating a relief surface).
  • Roller for painting corners, in the photo VMU, is used for internal corners.
  • Paneled rollers convenient for infill, so as not to cut out stencils or make a special ruler.

  • Pipe paint roller, railings of balconies, stairs and other objects.

How to paint bark beetle plaster

Bark beetle plaster is one of the most popular types of decorative coating. It can be used for interior and exterior finishing. Enough simple technology painting and affordable price, combined with a spectacular appearance.

The disadvantages when staining the bark beetle include:

  • The presence of a variety of grooves and protuberances that complicate the color of the surface. It is quite difficult to paint such a relief with an ordinary roller. In this case, you will need to use hand painting with a brush.
    First, the surface is painted with a roller.

Tip: For coloring the bark beetle, you should choose a thicker roller.

The tool is saturated with paint as much as possible, which can flow into all the depressions and paint the elevations.

Tip: If paint accumulates in the recesses, it must be collected with a dry roller. All non-painted surfaces that appear should be tinted with a brush by hand.

  • When painting the bark beetle (see. Painting the Bark beetle plaster - all methods) in one color, the coating does not look too beautiful.
    It is better to paint the surface twice, while applying the second layer in a different color. Thus, a spectacular appearance is achieved. In this case, the potholes and grooves will remain with the original layer, and a coating of a different color will be applied on top.

The disadvantages of the bark beetle include the difficulty of applying a two-color layer with your own hands.

To paint a surface in two colors, you need:

  • Add color by mixing directly into the plaster. In this case, the coating acquires the desired color during the preparation of the material. You can use ready-made colors that you just need to stir thoroughly.
  • When painting the coating, it is better to use a special roller for painting the bark beetle... It is a little more difficult for them to paint the surface and the paint consumption is slightly higher, but with such a tool you can effectively cover all the grooves on the surface.

How to clean and maintain your roller after use

Quality tools are quite expensive, but they can last a long time if properly cared for. Before storing the roller after painting, it should be properly cleaned after use.

The instructions for cleaning the roller from water-based paint suggest:

  • Prepared:
  1. capacity;;
  2. cleaning solution;
  3. softener for all rollers that were used during work.
  • For each type of roller, the bucket is filled with warm water and two cups of material softener are added to it and everything is thoroughly mixed.
  • After dissolving the fabric softener, the solution breaks the tension on the surface of the water and the paint begins to dissolve faster.

Tip: If necessary, the roller can be cleaned with plain water or a mild dishwashing detergent. In addition, the paint can be rolled out onto newspapers spread out on the floor, after removing the excess by rolling a roller with pressure in a paint tray.

  • The roller is lowered into a bucket of prepared solution for 20 seconds.
  • The tool is removed from the bucket and rinsed under running warm water until the liquid becomes clear.
  • After peeling off the paint from the roller, it must be squeezed out of the water as best as possible and put on an old, preferably terry, towel. You can use paper towels in a thick layer to absorb any moisture.

To clean oil paint:

Tip: Do not take water to clean the roller, when using oil-based paint: the paint will not dissolve in water alone, it must be removed with alcohol or turpentine.

  • Excess paint is removed from the roller by rolling it back and forth over old newspapers.
  • Alcohol or turpentine, which will serve as a solvent for the paint, is poured into a clean dish.
  • A roller with paint is lowered into the solution and rolled back and forth, as when painting.
  • The tool is rolled over old newspapers and, if there is still paint on it, the process is repeated.
  • After cleaning, the roller is hung on a nail or any hook for drying.
  • After drying, the instrument is covered with aluminum foil or plastic wrap to protect it from dirt and dust.

The video in this article will show you the details of caring for the instrument.

A few tips for using paint rollers:

  • If the repair has stopped for a short time, the roller can be placed in a plastic bag to prevent it from drying out.
  • The tool can be stored in a tightly closed bag in the refrigerator. After that, it will take some time to defrost it before using it.

To apply paint on the surface, you must choose the right tool, and after finishing work, provide it with proper care and storage.

Rollers are an irreplaceable thing when painting surfaces. They come in different sizes and types, each designed for a specific job. The variety of options in the store makes it possible to purchase the most suitable tool.

Paint roller: how to choose a tool to implement a design idea

It is impossible to imagine a renovation without a paint roller when it comes to painting the walls. Due to the variety of products in the store, it is easier to choose such a tool. Meeting the needs of the customer, a roller for applying an even layer of paint or creating a ribbed surface is considered an indispensable aid.

An irreplaceable assistant in painting walls - a roller: purpose

During repairs, an even layer of paint is applied to the overall area. A not so long ago invented device - a roller can offer invaluable help in this. With its help, it is quite simple and quick to paint the surface, and it can be either a monochromatic coating or a decorative one full of patterns.

How to choose by size

The main part of the device is a cylinder of different types:

    1. mini - having a diameter of 3–9 cm and a length of up to 15 cm. A tool with such a cylinder is used to paint surfaces with a small area;
    2. midi - practical medium-sized rollers. The diameter of the cylinder is 9 cm, and the length is up to 20 cm. This is a type for finishing the inner surface of the house;
    3. maxi - used for exterior decoration of the house. The diameter of such a cylinder is 8 cm, the length is 30 cm.

The size of the tool is selected in accordance with the area of the surface to be painted. For small works they use mini, and for large ones - midi and maxi.

Sometimes it seems that the use of rollers big size for decorating the walls of rooms it is better, since they are overall. But, during interior work, the base becomes heavy due to absorbency, and the paint splashes or leaks. Another thing is at home: on fresh air the coating dries faster, so speed is critical. For such work, tools with a maxi-sized cylinder are used.

How to determine the length of the pile

The quality of the work performed depends on the correctly selected length of the pile of the fur coat. Depending on the structure of the surface for painting, rollers with different pile lengths are used.

  1. Up to 5 mm. - for painting smooth surfaces (mainly varnishing).
  2. 5-10 mm. - for painting ceilings and plastered walls.
  3. 5–20 mm. Mainly used for painting concrete surfaces, unpolished wood or rough plaster.
  4. 20-30 mm. They paint brick with fur coats with a large pile length, concrete surfaces, walls with embossed plaster, strong porosity and roughness.

Smooth, do not require special efforts for coloring, a short nap will be enough. Another thing is a surface with many irregularities and roughness; for their finishing it is advisable to choose a roller with a long pile. A variety of combinations of options for these components makes it possible to choose the right tool for its use in painting.

Components of the roller

The tool has two components: the machine and the main working surface of the cylinder - the fur coat. The machine consists of a handle and a yoke.

Handle varieties

The handle has a convenient shape for work, it can be made of wood or plastic. There are no specific standards for handles. When choosing a tool, you need to take into account the combination of size and weight: the handle should be comfortably covered by the hand, and the fur coat should not outweigh the handle, otherwise it will be difficult to work.

Attaching the nozzle

The cylinder has three types of attachment.

  1. Rigid mount. Such a tool cannot be disassembled; after the fur coat is worn out, the roller becomes unusable.
  2. The presence of a coupling. If necessary, the fur coat is replaced with a new one.
  3. Frame system. This view assumes multiple use of the tool without a kernel.

Rollers with a specific mounting structure are selected based on the preferences of the buyer.

Varieties of materials

A variety of materials makes it possible to choose the right tool for a specific type of work. There are a lot of types of fur coats:

  • foam rubber;
  • fur;
  • velor
  • thread;
  • polyamide;
  • polyacrylic;
  • polyester.

Each type has certain properties and, accordingly, a price.

The fur coat paints evenly, does not leave bubbles, it does not absorb a large number of paint, due to which there is almost no splashing. The only drawback is the separation of fibers that remain on the painted surface.

If there are many cracks that need to be filled with paint, it is advisable to choose a tool with a longer nap. A roller with a velor coat has the same qualities as a fur coat, but does not leave a lint. The painted surface remains perfectly flat.

Polyamide can be easily cleaned after use. Due to its resistance to aggressive environments, the coat does not deteriorate, easily absorbs and gives off any type of paint (even those containing water or synthetic solvents). Polyacryl is considered a lower quality analogue of polyamide, but it also dyes well. However, if a polyamide coat is applied different types paints, then for a polyacrylic coat they are recommended only on a water basis.

The easiest staining tool that you can find in hardware stores is foam. He does a great job with smooth surfaces, however, paints over irregularities with difficulty. It has a low cost, because if it is bought only once, the option is quite suitable.

With a roller with a thread coat, work quite quickly. Thanks to its relief, it leaves beautiful patterns on the wall.

Separate color option: textured rollers

When you want to create an unusual texture on the wall surface, textured rollers are used. For the granulation effect, you need a fur roller and a special textured paint which lies unevenly on the surface. Drawing is done using a special textured roller - stencil.

Which one is better to choose

The working tool must be selected in accordance with the expected result. With some types of textured rollers, it is convenient to create beautiful patterns, while others - to completely paint over the wall with a ribbed effect. The aggressiveness of the paint used is also taken into account, choosing a fur coat from a suitable material for it.

Stencil with pattern

An interesting option for painting the surface of a room is stencil rollers. Such coats represent a cylinder on which the pattern protrudes.

Stencil sizes from small (for painting small areas) to large (they are used for drawing on). The lines connect smoothly, so you can paint the entire wall without any problems so that there will be no visible joints.

The use does not require skill or great effort. The main thing is to adhere to some rules:

  • draw along the wall with a roller without pressing hard, the pace is unhurried;
  • new paint is recruited when the old one is completely over.

Wide with a pattern

The main advantage of wide stencil rollers is the quick staining of the area. The stencil roller can be easily matched to the previously applied pattern, which visually creates a sense of a holistic pattern.

Embossed roller for decorative painting

The embossed roller is used to paint the wall with a certain patterned pattern. They are also used to decorate surfaces by pushing wet putty. This technique will allow you to get the textured surface of the wall after it dries.

How to choose according to the material used

For a certain one, the appropriate material of the coat is selected. The foam coat is used once, after which it becomes unusable. But for more expensive rollers, which are planned to be used in the future, you need to select the paint in accordance with the resistance of the coat material.

How to paint with water-based paint

For painting with water-based paint on flat surfaces, 3 types of rollers are used:

  • foam rubber;
  • thread;
  • nappy.

The most commonly used is thread. The foam coat absorbs a large amount of paint, which affects the quality of work. A thread coat absorbs less of it, which is why the paint lays down more evenly. Choosing the right pile length also matters: the smoother the surface, the shorter it is.

How to paint with acrylic paint

Due to its special texture, acrylic paint often used in painting, but requires a suitable tool. Most suitable option- velor. Foam will also work, provided it is of good quality.

For facade and outdoor work, it is recommended to use a roller with a polyacrylic coat. Polyester coats are also suitable for such work if the pile is up to 6 mm, although a pile length of 18 mm is recommended for rough and uneven surfaces.

When choosing a roller in a hardware store, pay attention to some features.

  1. The roller must have a coat suitable for the selected type of paint. It is worth making sure that the material from which the roller coat is made is suitable and will not deteriorate after the first use.
  2. You need to decide, and then choose what size the roller should be.
  3. If you need to apply a drawing on the wall, you need to choose it from the variety of proposed options for drawings. When painting the entire wall, rollers with different coatings are available.

Which roller to choose is up to the buyer's reasoning. The conscious choice of the working tool makes it easier to create the desired effect.

How to make a roller with your own hands

It is not necessary to buy a roller for painting, because you can always make it yourself. Firstly, you do not have to spend money, and secondly, if it concerns a decorative roller, you can create an unusual, unique pattern on the wall.

Decorative

A decorative roller is easy to make at home from available tools. For this, there must be an old unnecessary roller at home. For creating decorative painting on the wall or ceiling, household items are used attached to the roller.

For example, you need a roller and a plastic bag, they are held together with duct tape. It is important that there are as many folds as possible, they will create a unique relief pattern on the surface. Instead of a bag, they also use hair ties, a vegetable net, fabric trimmings, and more.

An interesting option for creating a unique decorative roller at home using foil and acrylic putty. You will need thick foil (such as from under bags of dairy products) and an object with which the pattern will be squeezed out.

With the help of the chosen object, the pattern you like is minted on the foil: geometric shapes, stars, daisies, birds, straight lines, a cell, an interweaving of curving stripes.

If the drawing should not have joints, but merge into a single picture. It is worth first measuring the length of the foil that will be wrapped around the roller, you also need to take into account the layer of putty between the roller and the foil.

It is advisable to apply lines before extruding the pattern, they must have a distance between themselves of at least 5 mm, then the pattern will not merge.

A layer is applied to the back wall of the stamped foil and wrapped around a roller coat to form a cylindrical shape. The main thing is to do it quickly so that the putty does not have time to harden ahead of time. In the last step, the foil is glued to the roller.

Textured

The production of a factorial bead does not require much effort. An old roller with a foam rubber coat will be textured by the ropes glued to it. Having wrapped them around the cylinder many times, the roller will leave behind a complex pattern. You can also use threads to highlight individual parts of the foam coat.

In the manufacture of a homemade decorative roller, a clerical knife is often used. First, the desired pattern is applied to the foam rubber coat with a marker, after which unnecessary parts are cut off with a knife. The pattern can be very diverse: a cage, stripes, imitation of a brick, and so on. This is how you get a homemade decorative roller.

With a knife and carbon paper, the same can be done with a rubber coat. The pattern is made based on the desired thickness of the texture of the pattern.

Universal

Making a universal roller is simple. First, a cylinder is taken, for example, from under toilet paper, duct tape for removing lint from clothes, or a tin beer can. It is pasted over with woolen cloth or thin foam rubber, 1 cm thick, which will absorb the paint. A thick, stiff wire bent with the letter "G" will become a yoke.

The splashes that remain on the ceiling can be painted over when treating the walls. But, for a start, it's worth preparing the paint. The paint tray, into which the paint is poured, helps to regulate the amount of paint. The roller absorbs the mixture, and the excess is squeezed out on the inclined wall, paint splatter is reduced to a minimum.

Today the roller has become an indispensable tool for repairs. Due to the variety of its types, it is possible to make repairs that best meet expectations. The tool is easy to buy at the hardware store, and an old, damaged roller can be given a "second life" using certain methods.
