Making a brazier with your own hands sizes. Do-it-yourself metal brazier: photos, diagrams, drawings, video

Kebab cooked in nature - delicious dish... If desired, it can be fried on stones, but it is much more convenient to use an iron barbecue - the meat does not burn, and the coals are slowly inflated by the air coming through special holes. Thanks to the high position of the brazier above it, there is no need to bend over or squat side by side while cooking. If you have not yet acquired this useful device, then from this article you can learn how to make a brazier out of sheet metal with your own hands, so as not to buy it ready-made.

Schemes and sizes of barbecues

Homemade barbecue devices are divided into 2 groups - stationary and collapsible. The former are made for home or summer cottage use and are distinguished by a more massive structure, the latter are lightweight folding models for outdoor picnics.

There are several types of metal barbecue grills installed in the courtyard of the house:

  • a simple outdoor barbecue with legs;
  • multifunctional device, including a barbecue, oven, stove for a cauldron and even a smokehouse;
  • garden options equipped with a roof, and sometimes a natural exhaust.

Multifunctional grill

Reference. When making barbecue, some craftsmen not only combine them with various stoves, but also put an electric spit over the brazier, which is shown in the drawing below. Thanks to this, the poultry is cooked automatically, like on an industrial grill.

Hiking structures are of two types - collapsible and folding. The difference between them lies in their compactness and weight. In the first case, the brazier is made with removable legs and a disassembled case so that it can easily fit into the car trunk. The device of shashlik makers of the second type allows them to be folded in the form of a suitcase or a briefcase for hand carry. A sample of such an original homemade product is shown in the photo.

After selecting the structure, the next step is drawing the sketch and determining the dimensions of the structure. To make a hand-made brazier easy to use and roomy enough, consider the following points:

  1. Select the width of the product according to the length of the existing skewers, usually it lies in the range of 250-400 mm. If there are no skewers yet, then provide for the stationary version as wide as possible, and it is better to make the portable model small.
  2. Estimate how many servings of kebab you will have to cook at the same time and calculate the length of the brazier, observing the condition: the distance between the skewers must be at least 60 mm.
  3. Select the height of the homemade barbecue for your height for the convenience of frying and rotating skewers.

Advice. In order to properly make a barbecue with a canopy made of metal, when choosing the size, you should take care of the stability of the structure. It is undesirable to design a brazier too narrow and long, unless you embed the stand in concrete. Projects of beautiful barbecues with a roof made of forged elements are presented in the photo.

If you plan to build a gazebo, where the barbecue maker will subsequently be located, then you need to provide an exhaust hood with a chimney and maintain a distance of 1 m from the firebox to wooden structures.

Preparation of materials

Depending on the purpose and design of the barbecue, sheet metal of various thicknesses is used for manufacturing:

  • yard braziers, which are constantly on the street, are usually built from ordinary steel with a thickness of 2 to 3 mm;
  • for a prefabricated structure designed for transportation, it is better to take metal no more than 1.5 mm;
  • products that fold into a suitcase or a briefcase must be assembled from stainless steel 0.8-1 mm in thickness.

An outdoor grill can also be made from an old gas cylinder or a 200-liter barrel. You get a ready-made round-shaped firebox, where it remains to cut out the lid, put the door on and weld the chimney so that the barbecue grill simultaneously serves as a smokehouse. How this unusual solution is implemented, look at the photo:

The legs of the structure are made from any available means - profile and round pipes, corners and channels. There is only one requirement for them: the supports must ensure the stability of the structure.

Simple Stationary Model - Assembly Order

As a rule, a yard brazier is made by hand from metal, connected by welding. First, the iron sheets must be marked and cut into blanks in accordance with the drawing. For further action we offer the following step-by-step instructions:

  1. Take the blanks of the side walls and drill 5 holes with a diameter of 15 mm in them at a height of 8 cm from the bottom.
  2. Now you need to weld a metal box - the future brazier. The double bottom can be formed in two ways: weld a perforated steel sheet over the side holes, or put a mesh and lay the bottom with solid ceramic bricks.
  3. Weld the frame with the crossbars between the legs and attach it to the finished firebox.
  4. To install and rotate the skewers, cut grooves at the ends of the side walls with an interval of at least 6 cm.
  5. Attach the carrying handles to the end walls.

An important point. The correct application of welds is outside, not inside the firebox, so that they do not burn out. This way the product will last longer.

If a propane cylinder or barrel is used for making a barbecue, then a lid must be cut out in it and a mesh must be put inside. The latter can be bought or welded from steel wire yourself. Make the lid hinged by hinging it. When you need to make a smokehouse, instead of the semicircular bottom of the cylinder, an iron disk with an opening for the door is welded, and a chimney is arranged on the other side. More information about making a barbecue at home is described in the video:

Upon completion of assembly work, refine appearance products by painting it with heat-resistant enamel of the KO series or with a special paint from an aerosol can.

Collapsible brazier made of metal

The manufacture of a disassembled structure is carried out in the same order as a welded brazier, but with some differences:

  1. Cutting of metal parts is done with a margin for bends at the edges, with the help of which the walls are attached to each other with bolts.
  2. The ends of each element must be bent at an angle of 90 ° and holes drilled into them.
  3. The legs are also bolted to the body.

Advice. When assembling, make sure that the nut and part of the thread are outside, and the head of the bolt is inside the firebox, as shown in the drawing.

There is an easier option for joining parts without threaded connections... The fastening elements are the legs themselves made of shaped pipes with longitudinal cutouts. The bent ends of the walls are inserted into these slots, and the bottom simply fits into the bends. The essence of the idea is shown in the next video:

A brazier in the form of a diplomat is somewhat more difficult to make. You will have to work with stainless steel, which is harder to drill and bend. You should not use ordinary iron, a sheet with a thickness of 0.8 mm will burn out quite quickly, and thicker steel will make the suitcase too heavy. The second difficulty, noticeable in the assembly drawing, is the installation of the hinges on the side walls so that they fold inward. The end collars are simply welded to the bottom, and the legs are inserted into special slots.

Conclusion

For a skilled owner, making a barbecue from metal is not a problem. Even in the absence of welding and skills in working with it, a stationary barbecue grill can be screwed with bolts. The main thing is not to be mistaken with the size of the product and not to make it too small. If you have the time and desire, you can expand the functionality of the barbecue - weld shelves for firewood and stringing meat, as well as make a canopy so that you do not get covered with an accidental rain.

What a suburban area or a summer residence without a metal barbecue. It is in great demand for relaxation and hot cooking. The design of forged barbecues and barbecues allows you to quickly cook food on charcoal, which is distinguished by an exquisite taste. At the same time, the structure is simple, and a beginner can also cope with manufacturing.

Features of braziers

Buying a finished product in a store is quite an expensive pleasure, but it does not always meet expectations. A brazier made of metal, made with your own hands according to drawings and photos with step-by-step instructions, can serve you for a long time, since it is designed specifically for your needs.

Of course, the best option for a suburban area there would be a brick oven, but it is quite bulky and takes up a lot of space. it is used, as a rule, seasonally, so it can lie for a long time unnecessarily. You can place it anywhere: in a gazebo or in the open air.

What are the braziers in appearance:

How to choose the size

The dimensions of a metal device are very important for a novice craftsman. It is important to take into account the number of people in a company or family to calculate the number of barbecues and the size of the structure itself. Recommendations for standard sizes:

Welding a homemade barbecue

Using a welding machine, you can create a durable and reliable design, which is resistant to sudden changes in temperature and is able to serve you for a long time. At the end of the welding process, all seams between the parts are carefully checked and polished.

What materials can be used to make a home grill:

  • Steel barrel.
  • Cropping wide metal pipe.
  • Empty bottle.
  • Washing machine tank.
  • Massive sewing machine.
  • Forged countertops or metal shelves.

Non-separable design

To make a stationary barbecue we need:

  1. Strong sheet metal (steel).
  2. Welding installation.
  3. Powerful drill.
  4. Angles for posts or pieces of reinforcement.
  5. A well-working grinder.

Before you start assembling the structure, you need to draw up a drawing with dimensions and distance between parts. For example, there should be 7 to 8 centimeters between the ventilation holes on the bottom of the case. The photo shows the use of an additional stand.

We determine the number of skewers, we will have no more than 8 pieces in one tab. Procedure:

Using the video of the master class, you can make excellent grill for evening gatherings with friends.

Folding suitcase

Do-it-yourself folding brazier made of metal can be made according to the drawings with the photo. You will get an easy-to-use diplomat installation, it is transportable and mobile. The structure folds inward, thereby hiding all dirty surfaces and details. In such a suitcase, you can place a skewer and carry it to any place, just holding on to the handle.

How to make:

Barbecue barrel

We need a barrel with thick walls and good drawing... There are 2 methods for cutting a barrel: only the top is cut off (creating a lid), or the barrel is cut exactly in half (the most common). We'll cover both.

1 way

Consider the process of assembling a brazier with your own hands from metal with a roof from a barrel:

2 way

Manufacturing proceeds as in the first case. The only difference is cutting the barrel into two equal parts. The second part can be left and used as a lid.
Then it should be scalded, the handle and the holder fasteners should be mounted in it. Step-by-step instruction in the video master class.

It is necessary to take good care of a home barbecue in order to increase its service life. Remove dirt with soft rags, lubricate the unit from time to time with special oil. And also do not forget about the finishing painting and decor, because the grill should be not only functional, but also beautiful.

Everyone's favorite summer dish is shashlik. These juicy pieces with a crispy crust and an appetizing "smoke" aroma are prepared by stringing pre-marinated meat on sharp rods - skewers, frying on hot coals placed on the bottom of the barbecue. The very design of the barbecue is usually a metal box on legs with perforations for air circulation and small indentations on the walls for the convenience of stacking skewers.

Types of metal braziers

Based on the dimensions, barbecues are divided into:

  • stationary;
  • portable.

Stationary barbecues equip in suburban areas. Often they are made with elements of forging, trimmed with stone, or installed on a brick base. This adds aesthetics and exclusivity to the appearance. If the grill is equipped with a canopy or installed in a gazebo, then it is possible to cook kebabs and other dishes on it in almost any weather.

They are used in hiking trips, when going out into nature. They are small and lightweight. Often such barbecues are folded into a metal case.

The simplest model of a portable barbecue consists of two metal frames on which skewers are stacked. The disadvantage of small portable barbecues is the impossibility to cook at a time a large number of portions of barbecue.

More complex, but also heavier models can be supplemented with a small pull-out table, grilles, adjustable airflow. But such improved options have an impressive weight, so it is much more comfortable to transport them in a private car than to carry them manually.

If you classify braziers by the thickness of the metal from which they are made, then braziers are divided into:

  1. - thin-walled;
  2. - thick-walled.

Thin-walled usually make portable barbecues. Steel of small thickness allows to lighten the models, but at the same time the durability of the structure suffers. In thin-walled barbecues, you can only use ready-made coals purchased in stores or prepared in advance over a fire. If you cook coals directly in metal box structures, steel will quickly burn out and the grill will become unusable.

Thick-walled stationary models are usually made. For this, steel with a thickness of more than four millimeters is used. Such options are much more expensive, but the service life is much longer than that of barbecues with thin walls.

A standard brazier has a rectangular cross-section, but you can make a barbecue device with your own hands from a gas cylinder or an old barrel. But it is not recommended to use a container from under fuels and lubricants. The main thing is that the thickness of the metal is sufficient for the possibility of long-term use of the structure.

In addition to the barrel itself, you will need: a welding machine, a grinder, a drill, metal corners.

1. We make markings and cut off the upper half of the barrel with a grinder, leaving the ends in place. We will subsequently make a cover from the cut part.

2. We make legs for the barbecue from metal corners. We cut the corners into four equal parts and weld them to the end of the barrel.

3. We measure the length of the barrel and cut off two corners equal to this length. They will serve as a support for the skewers. We make cuts at the corners every 4-6 centimeters (guides for skewers) and weld them onto the inside of the barrel.

4. Metal hinges and two handles must be welded to the lid. This will protect the grill and coals in the event of an onset of rain.

DIY metal brazier

A collapsible brazier consists of: four legs, the same number of rectangular perforated walls and a bottom.

Before starting work, we complete the drawing and prepare the materials.

Necessary materials:

  1. sheet of steel;
  2. metal corners or rods with nuts, from which we will make brazier legs;
  3. welding machine and electrodes;
  4. drill;
  5. grinder with cutting wheels or a hacksaw for metal.

It is more convenient to draw a drawing of the future barbecue on sheets in a cage. It is imperative to indicate the length of the legs, the dimensions of the barbecue itself, indicate the distance between the perforations on the walls and the guide chamfers for the skewers. The optimal number of chamfers is 8 pieces. The distance between the holes for ventilation of the bottom should be chosen from 7 to 10 cm, it is better to place them at a height of 5-10 cm from the bottom of the barbecue. The length of the legs is chosen individually.

Work order:

  1. On sheet metal, we mark the walls and bottom of the barbecue. We take the thickness of the metal 1.5-2 mm, but it can be thicker, this will increase the service life and ensure optimal heating of coals and food.
  2. We cut the metal according to the markings using a grinder or a hacksaw for metal.
  3. With a drill we perform perforation on the walls.
  4. Using a grinder or a hacksaw, we make cuts on the upper edges of the walls of the barbecue.
  5. We weld the bottom and walls of the barbecue.
  6. To make the legs, the metal corners are sharpened at one end, cutting off some of the metal at an angle. This is necessary so that the grill is easier to enter the ground.
  7. We weld the corners and the metal box by welding.

If the legs are made of metal rods, then 4 identical nuts are welded to the corners of the bottom of the barbecue, the rods are divided into four parts, on each of which a thread is made. Thus, a brazier with collapsible legs is obtained, which can be unscrewed if necessary.

Another option for collapsible legs is metal corners with holes for bolts, with which they can be screwed to the barbecue box, and after use, unscrew and fold. But for this you have to wait for the metal to cool down after cooking.

If the legs are long enough, it is advisable to connect them in pairs with metal jumpers to strengthen the structure.

Do-it-yourself collapsible metal brazier

To make completely collapsible metal brazier, no welding machine is needed. But a drill, drills, a hacksaw for metal or a grinder with cutting discs, bolts and nuts, a sheet of steel 1.5-2 mm thick, metal corners for legs, a tape measure will come in handy.

The first two points of work are the same as when performing a non-separable barbecue - drawing and cutting out parts of the barbecue from a steel sheet. But when performing a collapsible barbecue, add 3-4 centimeters at the joints.

Collapsible metal brazier - scheme

On the side and end walls of the barbecue, we make small cuts and bend the sheets so that it becomes possible to join the corners and lay the bottom.

For a strong connection of parts during cooking, we drill holes for screws in the side edges.

We make the legs from pointed corners in a similar way, drilling holes in the walls to connect the walls of the barbecue and the legs with bolts.

The last point is the assembly of the finished structure.

Folding metal brazier

The design of a folding metal barbecue is similar to that of a non-separable barbecue. The section is rectangular. The difference is that the walls of the barbecue are not welded to each other, but are connected by movable furniture skirts, which allows you to fold the barbecue after use. To prevent the walls from folding by themselves, we attach metal hooks to the upper part of the walls by welding.

This type of barbecue is very convenient for transportation.

Corrosion protection

It is desirable to protect any metal structure from corrosion, then it will last longer, and the appearance will be much more attractive.

Only special heat-resistant paints can be used to paint the barbecue. They are sold in car dealerships in the form of an aerosol (such paints are applied to a car's muffler).

Instead of painting, you can change the structure of the metal. Oxidation or bluing is a process as a result of which a black heat-resistant film forms on the metal surface. For bluing, the surface of metal parts is pre-cleaned and degreased, then the metal is kept at a temperature of 140 degrees in a solution of sodium hydroxide (50 grams per liter of water) for one and a half to two hours.

A real picnic in nature is most often associated with gatherings around the fire and barbecue. It is the process of cooking meat on coals that gives the rest with friends the soulfulness and solemnity of the moment. Most often, men are involved in the action, claiming that “kebab female hands does not tolerate. " Let us not challenge their right to cook meat, which comes from the most ancient times.

Pieces of meat for barbecue, which are planned to be cooked on the grill with your own hands, should be cubes with sides of at least 4-5 cm.This will allow them not to dry out, be juicy and soft.

"Correct brazier", made by hand. The dimensions of the appliance must be sufficient to accommodate the skewers with sufficient clearances.

As a rule, the length of the barbecue is taken equal to the length of the skewers minus 10-15 cm. The width can be calculated from the condition that one skewer must have at least 80 mm of space. The distance to the coals should be no more than 100 mm, and the depth of the fire should be up to 200-250 mm, with slots for skewers along its long side.

Wall thickness- the bigger, the better. And there is no need to clean off the soot from their inner surface, this is a source of infrared rays, without which you will simply get meat baked on a fire. In order for the shish kebab to be not only a tasty, but also a healthy dish, the holes for the air flow for the handmade barbecue should be in the bottom, as in the numerous photos of devices that are filled with specialized sites.

When air passes through the coals from the bottom up, all the oxygen will burn out in it and it will be possible to avoid harmful oxidation of food enzymes. With the lateral arrangement of the blowing holes, oxygen will remain in the outgoing stream, which means that the kebab will not be so healthy.

"Fragrant" coals. Analyze an archive of home videos of eating a barbecue, cooked on the grill with your own hands. Do you notice that the broadest smiles of those present are present precisely during the tasting of dishes cooked on wood from fruit trees? It is difficult to overestimate the fairness of this joke - firewood from cherries, apricots, apple trees, pears, etc. will give the dish a unique taste and aroma.

We start making the barbecue. On the network you can find drawings and photos necessary in order to make a brazier of any type with your own hands - from simple metal to brick or stone. Consider all designs, gradually moving from the simplest - from sheet metal, to more complex ones, such as a brazier, a smokehouse, created by hand, or a stone brazier-oven.

Benefits of metal structures

The most important advantage of barbecues made of metal is their cheapness ... Even if you buy metal sheets, corners, bars and pipes required for the job, the cost of materials will be significantly lower than the finished product from the store. And if you take into account that unnecessary metal rubbish in the form of barrels, cylinders, pieces of sheet metal and scraps of corners will fit for such a structure, then the price of the finished product will approach zero.

Second undeniable advantage - ease of manufacture ... Anyone who has the slightest knowledge of welding will be able to repeat the most complex structure... Thirdly, such barbecues can be easily installed in a new place or taken with you to a picnic. Fourth, a sufficient thickness of sheet metal will allow the grill to serve for a long time. And fifth, the pleasure of the result. Having created a real masterpiece from scrap metal, you can proudly recall this at every opportunity.

Barbecues with insufficient wall thickness suffer from disadvantages - they quickly burn out, they can be driven when overheated, and they can rust from rain and moisture.

Do-it-yourself sheet metal brazier

A brazier made of metal with your own hands will serve you faithfully for many years only if the thickness of the sheet is sufficient and the metal can withstand high temperatures without the risk of burning out. In addition, a product with a thickness of 4-5 mm will never lead, which often suffers from structures welded from roofing sheets. Most often, a device with a wall thickness of 1-2 mm is needed for outdoor trips. Its weight is much less, and a self-made brazier of a collapsible design, the drawings of which are on the network, are also more convenient to transport.

Before starting work, you need to stock up on a sufficient amount of sheet metal with a thickness of 2-4 mm, a corner with a shelf width of 40 mm, a welding machine and an angle grinder, an electric drill with drills, a ruler, a marker and a construction square. For the manufacture of legs, you need to prepare a pipe or square with a cross section of 400 mm 2. The work on the manufacture of a stationary barbecue with your own hands from sheet metal is performed in the following sequence:

  • Transfer the drawing to a metal sheet and cut out the blanks with the help of a grinder. In the case of using a material with a thickness of 2 mm, a drawing is applied in the form of a sweep, and then the workpiece is bent at right angles along the line of abutment of the side walls to the bottom.

We measure Cut out the required format Clean up the edges of the sheet for the bottom Measurements again Bend the sheets and grab

  • With the help of a square, the side walls are seized by welding perpendicular to the bottom, and then the seams are welded along the entire abutment line.

Welding is required to fix the sheets We take the welding machine We weld the joints Welding We clean the seams

  • With a drill with a diameter of at least 12 mm, holes are drilled for air flow in the lower part of the side walls or the bottom, depending on which drawings you use when making a brazier with your own hands. If the air flow will be through the bottom, then an additional bottom ash box should be provided.
  • In the long walls, slots should be made for skewers. It is best to alternately cut the grooves 3-5 cm and 6-8 cm long. This will allow you to set the required height of the skewers above the coals.

Fill in water, fill in firewood Water from 10 degrees to a boil reached a boil in 20 minutes Testing a homemade barbecue

  • The next stage will require you to study the photo of braziers on the network or design your own frame in which a brazier assembled by yourself will be installed. Such a frame is mounted from a metal corner and a profile using welded or bolted connections... Its design should provide shelves for dishes, firewood and appliances.
  • If you plan to make a brazier with your own hands from metal of small thickness for outdoor trips, the frame drawings can be set aside. You won't need it. It is better to weld short (up to 8 cm) pieces of a metal pipe with a diameter of up to 25 mm in the corners of the bottom, into which pieces of a bar or pipes of a smaller diameter (up to 20 mm) will be inserted as legs. Their length is selected based on their needs.
  • Handles from a metal bar should be welded to the top of the short walls of the barbecue for easy portability.
  • The roof, installed over the barbecue, will be able to protect the hearth from snow and rain. It is not at all difficult to make it; it is enough to provide side posts and a pair of floors, on which roofing iron of the required size is laid.
  • Do not forget to decorate your work with various forged decorative items that can be purchased in the retail network. Next, the product and the frame are cleaned with a metal brush and painted with heat-resistant paint. After it dries, making a barbecue from metal with your own hands is considered complete and they begin to test the barbecue.

In the process of work, you can correct the drawings and make a brazier with your own hands that best meets your technological and aesthetic requirements.

Collapsible brazier made of metal

If you do not want to transport an oversized all-metal box, then look at a collapsible structure or a diagram of a barbecue for making with your own hands. Such products are compact, easy to repeat and durable enough. Plus, a portable device can be assembled in minutes. Drawings and detailed diagrams are presented to your attention that will help you assemble a brazier with your own hands. Step-by-step instructions and photos of the assembly process will help you delve into the smallest details.

For work, you will need the same materials and tools as for the manufacture of a welded one-piece structure. Additionally, you need to stock up on a jigsaw and reinforced scissors for working on metal, as well as a set of dies and fasteners. Are you ready to make a collapsible brazier with your own hands? A step-by-step guide will help you not to lose sight of anything. Determine the required dimensions of the product, taking into account the dimensions of the trunk of your car. We offer the best option, suitable in most cases:

  • Width - 300 mm;
  • Length - 600 mm (designed for 6 portions, if necessary, it can be increased at the rate of 100 mm for one skewer);
  • The height of the walls is 150 mm, taking into account the distance of 20 mm under the grate;
  • The height of the support legs is 600 mm (it is better if the length of the legs coincides with the width of the barbecue, because we need a compact design).

As a rule, any self-made collapsible brazier, the production video of which can be found on the network, has the following elements:

  • Metal corner frame;
  • Bottom;
  • Longitudinal and lateral sides;
  • Grate;
  • Fasteners.
  1. To make a frame from the corners, weld a rectangle of the required size (if you take our barbecue dimensions as a basis, you should weld a frame 230 mm wide and 570 mm long with your own hands). Weld 50 mm pieces in the corners of the structure water pipe with an outer dimension of 17 mm. In the future, they will be inserted into the support legs.
  2. The legs need four pipes with an inner diameter of 18-20 mm. We have already discussed the length of the supports. Plugs can be installed on the other side of the pipes that will stick into the ground.
  3. Cut out the bottom and side structural elements from the metal sheet, cut the grooves in them and drill the necessary holes.
  4. In accordance with the diagram of a brazier intended for making with your own hands, attach the bottom to the frame with bolts. To do this, drill through holes in them, laying a frame from the corners on the base of the barbecue.
  5. As grates, you can use a grate welded from a bar or reinforcement with a diameter of 8-10 mm. Weld 15-20 mm legs from the same material along the edges of the grate.
  6. We fasten the sides on four rods (knitting needles). To do this, cut threads at their ends for wing nuts and weld the rods to the upper and lower sides of the short walls. If it is not possible to weld, fasten the spokes to the sidewalls with horseshoe bolts.
  7. Advice: install all bolts from the side of the hearth. This will help keep the threads from sintering.
  8. To assemble such a brazier with your own hands, step-by-step instructions are not needed - the process itself is very simple. It is enough to fix the bottom on the legs, and then get into the slots on the long sidewalls with the protruding ends of the spokes and tighten them with wing nuts. After attaching the assembled sidewalls to the base and installing it inside the grate, the brazier can be considered self-assembled. A photo near this grandiose structure will serve as proof of your skill in social networks.

Brazier from a barrel or a gas cylinder with your own hands

A metal barrel or a propane cylinder are excellent objects for making a stationary barbecue. There can be several manufacturing options for such a design - both with and without a hinged lid. If you decide to build a brazier with your own hands from a cylinder or barrel, then we can advise you to start working with a detailed drawing. In order to help you, we will provide detailed diagram device, which you can make the necessary amendments.

We will not write about the tool necessary for work - you already know what you need to stock up on. Of the materials, you will need all the same pipes, rods and corners in an amount that determines the size of the barrel or cylinder and the design you choose.

A grinder will help to start work on making a barbecue from a cylinder with your own hands. With its help, the container is cut in half the height, length, or a sector is cut off from its side. In the future, it will serve as a lid for the future barbecue.

Further work is performed in the following sequence:

  1. A stand is made by bending the pipe in a semicircle and welding the legs to it. If it is not possible to bend the pipe, two corners are welded at an angle to each other, and supports are welded to their edges. The result should be two structures in the shape of the letter M. Between themselves, these elements can be connected by a welded lattice made of a metal bar, which will later serve as a shelf for firewood and appliances.
  1. Half of the barrel is placed on a stand and welded.
  2. The cut is refined with a metal corner - it will bear not only an aesthetic load, but also give additional convenience when laying skewers.
  3. If the brazier, which you assemble with your own hands, is planned to be used under the grill, then racks are welded on the sides of the stand or barrel for its installation (for a more complete understanding, see the photo of such devices). For barbecuing for inside the cylinder (barrels) are welded on the brackets for installing the lattice.

Mesh Laying Brackets - Photo 53

  1. In the lower part of the side walls, holes with a diameter of 12-15 mm are drilled in a staggered manner for air flow.
  2. It is possible that the barrel will be mounted on a stand in such a way that its front cut will be much lower than the rear one. In this case, the high back wall will protect the hearth from the wind. In this case, you will not have to refine the cut with a corner - it will be enough to clean the edges well with a grinder. The horizontal grill installed along the front cut line will serve for barbecue, and in order to cook barbecue, on the high back wall you will have to weld a shelf for the installation of skewers with a width of at least 5 cm.

  1. Mounting the cover is generally straightforward. It is attached to the barrel with a pair of sturdy hinges. The finished edge of the lid will add neatness to the entire structure.
  2. A barrel with a lid can also work as a smokehouse. For this, a chimney is attached to its side. You can orient the barrel in advance so that the pipe is connected to the filler neck of the container.

Decorative elements in the form of curls, flowers and leaves, made by hand or purchased on the construction market, will help to refine the brazier from a balloon. The roof and antique metal wheels will give the device a magical look, which can also help with its transportation. In short, you have unlimited scope for creativity.

Advice: if you decide to make a brazier with your own hands from a gas cylinder, weld a couple of corners with a shelf of 50 - 80mm along the entire length of its bottom. They will allow the coals to spread more evenly over the surface of its bottom, without collecting too thick in the central part.

Finishing of metal products

After finishing work, the metal brazier must be cleaned of rust with a metal brush, which is placed on a drill or grinder. Welded joints are sanded with an angle grinder.

Further, the outer surfaces of the barbecue are degreased and painted with heat-resistant paints and varnishes. Ornaments in the form of leaves and curls can be ennobled with a patina, giving them the appearance of ancient products. There is no need to paint the inside of the products. Also, it is not necessary to clean this side from the carbon deposits that appear during the operation of the device. It is believed to have a positive effect on the quality of the food prepared.

DIY brick braziers

A stationary brick brazier, built with your own hands, is good for its solidity - its thick walls keep heat for a long time and allow you to cook a wonderful shish kebab or barbecue with your own hands without the risk of burning tender meat. Brick barbecue structures sometimes form a single whole with a gazebo and patio, being, in fact, a whole complex that complements the overall style garden plot... Having built such a brazier out of bricks with your own hands, you can cook not only barbecue, but also cook fish soup, shurpa, pilaf, as well as smoke poultry or fish.

Their only drawback stems from the solidity of brick braziers - they occupy a permanent place. They cannot be moved or hidden in the far corner. That is why it is necessary to very carefully approach the choice of a secluded place, having conceived to install an outdoor brazier with your own hands.

Getting Started

Like any capital structure, a garden barbecue requires arrangement of the foundation. Best of all, for building a brazier made of bricks with your own hands, a tape-type foundation with a pit depth of up to 0.6 m is suitable.The pit is covered with large rubble or stone, and poured sand-cement mortar... A foundation of rubble stone is laid above the surface of the soil, up to 0.3 m high. The best material for such a fireplace is a natural stone or red oven brick. Stone masonry is quite laborious and requires a lot of experience. It is quite possible to build a brazier made of bricks with your own hands, the main thing is to do the work carefully and without haste.

Before starting construction, consider the design of such a barbecue. As a rule, they all represent a firebox with a low chimney. A grate is installed inside the firebox, under which there is an ash pan (one or more), closed by a blower. A niche for storing firewood is arranged under the ash pan.

Are you interested in do-it-yourself barbecues made of bricks? A step-by-step instruction will help you fully understand all the nuances of such structures.

To build a small brick barbecue you will need: 400-450 pcs. bricks, clay, river sand, a pair of grates, a copper hood for an exhaust hood, an angle of 30x40 mm and 40x40 mm, valves or ash pan doors.

  1. Choose a place for the stove - in an open space or under a gazebo canopy. The composition of the solution depends on this. For the first option, heat-resistant cement will be needed, and for the second, clay solution will do.
  2. Equip the foundation.

  1. Lay out a niche measuring 0.75x0.5x0.5 m. Lay a row of bricks above this niche (spoon masonry). Here, use the support from the supplied metal corners. Install an equal angle corner in the back of the row (in the 8th row of masonry), and 30x40 in the front, making slots in face brick 9th row under the corner shelf.

The second row is needed to eliminate overheating of roofing material We form the volume of the furnace on the 3rd row

  1. The tenth and eleventh rows are formed by ash pan-blowers measuring 0.12x0.25 m. Doors or valves are also installed here to regulate the air flow. For the installation of the grate in the 11th row of bricks, a quarter is cut off.

In the original, such a door was used for the oven. Fixing the oven door. Fix the wire for fixing the door.

  1. In the twelfth-thirteenth row, we equip a ledge for skewers.
  2. The masonry of the firebox is continued until the 21st row. Further, it is covered in the same way as a niche under the ash pan, only the laying is carried out in half of the brick - butt.

A platform for laying the firebox Laying out the bottom of the firebox Putting the grate Erecting the walls of the firebox Covering the firebox with a sheet of metal

  1. From the 24th row, the masonry begins to narrow with ledges. On the sides, each row is reduced by 35 mm, and at the front by 17 mm. Back wall the smoke box is laid out perpendicular to the base.
  2. The last row of the brick barbecue will be the 33rd, with a copper exhaust hood installed by your own hands. A photo of this design will help you navigate how to do this.

We form 6 outlets of smoke from the firebox. Then we close the firebox. Lay the flooring on top Lay the heat insulation and the cooking floor on top of the firebox Laying the chimney. The brazier is ready!

The presented drawings of brick grills will help you build the most suitable structure with your own hands. A photo of such buildings will help you appreciate their design and splendor.

However, building a brazier out of bricks with your own hands is not enough. We still need to install a chimney.

Requirements for chimneys and hoods

In order for the brazier, built by your own hands, not to smoke the gazebo with smoke, hot gases are removed through the chimney. A special smoke hood is designed to collect smoke, which must exceed the dimensions of the metal barbecue by at least 30 cm in each direction. There should be at least 80 cm from the lower section of the hood to the upper section of the chimney. If you make a hood with an adjustable suspension, you can adjust the thickness of the smoke cover over the skewers. This kebab will be much more flavorful.

Do-it-yourself brick mangals should not have any smoke flows and smoke teeth. It is necessary to equip only straight smoke channels with a built-in view to adjust the draft. Otherwise, carelessness in handling the oven may result in waste.

The presented gallery of barbecues, equipped in summer cottages, will allow you to fully experience the beauty of technical and design solutions, feel the aroma of the prepared barbecue, plunge into the atmosphere of warmth and harmony, imagine yourself in the circle of your closest and beloved people. And maybe you will be so interested in how to make a brazier that you stock up on tools and start doing magic with your own hands.

Barbecue masters can cook this dish even in the middle of a deep forest without a single device for this. But it is still much more pleasant and convenient to use reliable, proven and durable devices for cooking in nature. But most often this process takes place with the participation of braziers.

Peculiarities

The most common barbecue device is a metal barbecue.

These are its main advantages.

  • Simplicity. Most often, the brazier is a box with legs, inside which firewood or coals are poured, a fire is made, and skewers with meat or a grill with vegetables are placed on top.
  • Mobility. Some metal models can be used anywhere: on the ground, on a concrete site, on a terrace or even on a sandy beach.
  • Functionality. Even the simplest inventions can be decorated with ornate forging, which can serve as additional hooks for hanging skewers or nets. You can build a structure with a roof or with additional shelves.

  • Security. The metal does not burn, does not melt and does not create fires. And this is a big plus.
  • Profitability. Even in the absence necessary material and the desire to make a brazier out of metal yourself, you will spend a small amount of money on its purchase.

The disadvantages include the not always aesthetic appearance and fragility of some models. However, all these nuances are eliminated and adjusted individually for each user and for each case.

A unique feature of metal barbecues is that they can be easily made by yourself.

You do not need to have any special knowledge or skills for this. You just need to decide on the model and materials, listen to the advice of professionals or just knowledgeable people, and also be sure that your idea is being implemented at 100%.

Device and principle of operation

Starting to consider the device from the bottom up, be sure to pay attention to the legs. As a rule, these are four metal corners, pointed downwards so that they can be thrust into the ground. The height of this element is selected individually if the product is made to order. In construction and gardening stores, you will most likely come across standard universal models with a length of 80 to 120 cm. Metal reinforcing rods are sometimes chosen as this element, some craftsmen resort to forged execution of the base of the barbecue.

There are also unique home-made structures installed on the lower iron part. sewing machines, unusable tables, etc. Almost everything is used that stably adheres to any surface and is able to withstand the mass of a metal box and its contents during cooking on fire.

The steel box, which consists of four sides and a bottom, is the basis of the barbecue structure. Often, the lower part of this box is made reinforced in order to increase the life of the entire structure. The side walls are necessarily perforated so that the heat does not accumulate in one place and air circulation occurs. Thus, a kind of blower is created, like in stoves.

Depressions are made on the upper edges of the long sides of the metal box, into which the skewers are then very conveniently inserted. This minimizes the movement of the mini-skewers on metal.

The principle of operation of such barbecues is known to everyone. Coals or logs of firewood are laid at the bottom of the metal box, a fire is kindled. When the fire dies down, and only coals, ash and heat from them remain in the grill, skewers with pre-prepared meat or vegetables are laid out on the structure in orderly rows. The heat in the hearth is supported by improvised means that create a powerful air flow inside the structure, but do not rekindle the fire on the ashes.

Types of structures

As for various designs, which imply a comfortable preparation of a barbecue, then here you should first deal with the main types of metal barbecues.

There are four types of them in total.

  • Disposable. BBQ on hastily... Everything that can be found nearby is used - from cans to two U-shaped metal profiles.
  • Stationary. The second step in the evolution of metal braziers. Simple, economical, sustainable. Can be used both outdoors and under a canopy. If necessary, can be completed with a roof, an extractor hood (or even a chimney), a pot holder and a double bottom.

  • Collapsible. It differs from the stationary method of attaching the elements of the barbecue to each other. In the first, all joints are spot welded. In the second, they are screwed in with metal bolts or hinges, which allows it to be disassembled for a time when it will not be used.
  • Folding. Original models mobile barbecues made of metal, which are very convenient to store right in the trunk of a car in case of a sudden trip to nature. They are suitcases, inside of which you can fold skewers and folding legs metal structure.

Each of the modifications has both positive sides and disadvantages. Making a metal brazier with your own hands, you take responsibility for its design and operation. And it plays into your hands.

Having decided on this crucial step, you can plan to have a smokehouse or barbecue grill.

Some projects also include a cover in the overall design of the barbecue. Having covered the kebab maker, you can achieve the fastest preparation of your dish and be sure that all the most valuable and beneficial features and vitamins will be stored in it.

In order for the correct air circulation to occur inside the metal box of the barbecue, it is better to make the slots, called the blower, at the bottom of the sidewalls of the structure. Special holes with a diameter of 10-12 mm are made in the bottom so that the oxygen entering these holes burns out, thereby enriching the meat over the fire.

For the legs of barbecues, sometimes metal rods or even pipes are easily used. The main thing is to properly cut, weld or fasten to the main structure.

Craftsmen make metal barbecues practically out of thin air.

So, there are options from a barrel, a gas cylinder and even from the drum of an automatic washing machine.

Drawings and dimensions

Before starting the production process, it is worth deciding on the model, dimensions, material. The next step will be to create a small but correct project plan, in which you need to display all the nuances and necessary numbers. On the sketch, you need to schematically depict the future structure.

Consider the main components and tools that you need to work.

  • A sheet of metal or pieces of it. The thickness of the material, according to the recommendations of professionals, ranges from 3 to 5-7 mm. Of course, the higher this indicator, the longer the service life of the metal structure itself will be. It is convenient in this case to manufacture a prefabricated structure, when the bottom can be made denser and the walls thinner.
  • Metal corners or shaped pipes... The first ones are suitable both for the device of the legs of the barbecue, and for strengthening the thin-walled sides of the box. The pipes are only suitable for creating two pairs of legs on which the entire structure will stand.

  • Grinder with discs for metal.
  • Drill for drilling ventilation holes or mounting holes.
  • Welding machine, if you decide to make stationary grill from one or more sheets of metal.

The main dimensions of a standard stationary metal barbecue are shown in the diagram. But in order to make your measurements, you need to understand why such numbers were chosen. The width of the box is always focused on the length of the skewers minus 8-10 cm.On average, this will be somewhere around 30 cm.

The length depends on the number of skewers that will be simultaneously used in the preparation of kebabs. Here, the distance from one semi-finished product to another is also taken into account, because they should not fit tightly to each other. So, the figure is taken as a basis - 10 cm per one skewered skewer.

The depth of the metal box of the barbecue is calculated clearly and has parameters of 20-25 cm. This distance is enough to fry the meat, but not burn it. If the depth is made more than 25 cm, the fuel consumption and the time for barbecue will increase.

There are also original mini-models, all sizes of which will have to be cut, depending on the reduction of the layout itself.

They usually have short legs and are located close to the ground. But even such designs look beautiful and practical thanks to a systematic and careful approach to manufacturing and assembly.

Step-by-step manufacturing instructions

It is worth understanding stepwise process creating stationary metal barbecues with your own hands.

The first step is markup. On a solid sheet of metal, we outline the silhouette of the future structure in a disassembled state. You should have a cross.

At the second stage, we cut out the drawn figure with the help of the grinder. Next, you need to bend all sides and weld them together. The box is ready.

Then we drill holes in the bottom for air and cut the ashlar in the box walls. It is also important to observe a certain system here. The holes must be at approximately the same distance from each other and from the edges of the box. Approximately 60 mm per row.

Considering that the holes are staggered, the distance from the bottom to the top is only 30 mm. This is necessary so that oxygen enters the brazier evenly.

The next step is to cut the grooves for a stable fixation of the skewers on the grill. These "teeth" are located in the upper side of the long sides of the structure. The manufacture and fastening of the legs is planned to be done last.

The stationary metal brazier is ready. You can attach additional handles to it (for ease of moving from place to place), hooks, grates and even wheels for transportation.

You can make a collapsible iron grill for a summer residence yourself.

All work is carried out in four stages.

  1. Marking and cutting out the walls and bottom. All elements must be drawn taking into account the allowance for bending seams.
  2. We make blowers and air ducts in the walls and bottom.
  3. On the allowances left when cutting the elements, holes are made for attaching them to each other.
  4. The legs will also be attached without welding. A metal corner is suitable here, which will be screwed to the box with refractory screws or self-tapping screws. It would also be a great idea to use pipes on which you need to make threads, and weld the bolts to the structure and screw the tube-legs into them.

Homemade collapsible iron brazier can be used for its intended purpose immediately after the completion of all work.

After cooking, it can be easily folded up and stowed away in a shed or garage. It won't take up much space and won't get in the way.

The travel case is also easy to make at home. To do this, you need to make a drawing on a metal sheet, where 4 cm is added to each side. Holes are made on the long sides. The bottom and walls are fastened together by door canopies. Bolts are welded to the bottom for attaching the legs. We supplement the design with a crochet with a loop so that the brazier itself does not decompose. We weld a handle to the side to comfortably carry a metal "suitcase", even if you travel to nature by public transport.

Making an original barbecue from scrap materials is as easy as shelling pears. The most popular projects today are recognized as a brazier from a metal barrel, from a gas cylinder and a drum of a washing machine.

The barrel design can combine two functions at once: a barbecue and a smokehouse.

There are at least three ways to make it. At the first, the barrel is placed on its side, its upper part is cut out, leaving the ends intact. The cut-out cover is attached to the main body of the future barbecue with ordinary door canopies. Legs are welded to the ends of the barrel, for example, metal rods. At the cut line of the upper part, corners are attached with a welding machine, on which notches are made to fix the skewers.

The second option for trimming the barrel is to split it in two. Putting the base of the barbecue on a flat surface, we make a vertical cut from the top end to the bottom. The percentage of parts can be different: from 30/70 to 50/50. But the bottom must be greater than or equal to the top. Further, the whole process is identical.

Making the perfect smoker is also easy. But this will require two barrels. One will become the base for the smokehouse, inside which a fire will be made. The second one will be cut into two parts horizontally and will become the smoking unit itself. Sawdust must be placed on the bottom of this barrel. The lid must be in the closed position throughout the entire process.

Making a metal barbecue from a used gas cylinder is schematically very similar to the same process for a barrel.

The main nuance that you should pay attention to is the preparation of the used container for work.

The cylinder must be at least 50 liters in volume so that the brazier turns out to be of good quality. The next step is to clean the tank from gas residues.

To do this, you need to do three steps.

  1. release the remaining gas through the valve and turn the cylinder upside down;
  2. moisten the valve with soapy water, if bubbles or a corresponding smell appear, the gas has not yet escaped, you need to wait;
  3. rinse the empty container.

In order to carry out the third step as safely as possible, this procedure it is recommended to produce with an assistant.

First of all, while one cuts off the tap with a grinder, the other periodically pours water over the cut point so that sparks do not get inside and do not react with the remnants of the gas substance on the walls of the cylinder.

A hose is inserted into the resulting hole, from which water is supplied under good pressure. While the liquid flows inside, the cylinder is periodically shaken in order to thoroughly wash all the walls. Pour in a full container and leave for several days. After the allotted time, the water is drained, but remember that this is already poison. To remove the pungent smell of gas from the cylinder, it is burned inside before starting to make a barbecue from it. Further manipulations look and are performed in the same way as in the case of a metal barrel.

Original designs barbecues are obtained from old cars. Using the hood and the front of the old vehicle, you can get an excellent heat-resistant and unusual brazier with a lid.

The simplest is considered to be a barbecue made from improvised means.

The fastest and most durable in this category is the automatic drum brazier. The average processing time is 10-15 minutes. The main condition is to find a drum. You can use it completely, or you can cut off the unnecessary part if you think it is too high. As for the support, the convenience of this option is that it can be placed directly on the ground, bricks or stones. And you can make legs specially for him from reinforcement rods. Both options are noteworthy. Pick it up individually for yourself.

It is impossible to do with just assembling the constituent parts of a metal barbecue. Exists whole line features in the operation of this device, which must be adopted and implemented to improve its functional qualities and performance.

After all the manufacturing work is over, it is necessary to clean the finished grill from dirt and rust. To remove the latter, use grinder or a drill with a special attachment.

The inner walls of the barbecue do not need to be cleaned of carbon deposits during operation. It is believed that this is what gives kebabs a special flavor and "health".

It takes place in two stages:

  1. degreasing the surface;
  2. keeping the elements of the barbecue in a caustic soda solution for about an hour and a half.

Such processing will not only provide a special heat-resistant film, but also protect against metal corrosion for the entire period of operation of the device.

If in overall design wooden parts are used, special attention should be paid to their treatment with various antiseptic, moisture-resistant and heat-repellent agents.

The place where the brazier is planned to be located must be freed from dry grass, branches or other flammable objects in advance and a container with sand must be installed nearby, which, in the event of a fire, will be extinguished.

So that the pungent smoke from the fire does not interfere with cooking and enjoying nature, you can independently build a hood for a metal barbecue. It is made from the same material as a device for preparing food in nature. It differs from standard barbecue structures installed indoors in that it looks like a cut pipe. The area of the hood of the hood is usually equal to the area of the barbecue itself. This minimizes the emission of smoke outside the cooking area as much as possible. The hood dome is welded to the barbecue body. It is also important to take into account the mass of the structure so that everything together stands stable.

Beautiful examples

The original stationary brazier made of metal, made with forging elements. In this case, the forged parts represent a table-stand for the brazier. There is a place under the table for preparing firewood or coal, so as not to run far behind them. Such a grill will not be easy, but quite mobile. That is, it will not be difficult to rearrange it in a convenient place or put it in a shed for the winter. Forged products about

A metal brazier with a roof allows you to cook meals over a fire, even in bad weather. If you don't have a shed or a gazebo in your yard, but you want meat or vegetables fried over a fire, this option is an excellent solution. In addition, the design is equipped with a stand for installing a cauldron and also a convenient place for placing fuel.

Unusual models are also found among stationary barbecues. Two large wheels are very successfully attached to the legs of this design. Simulating a garden wheelbarrow, the device easily moves around your site and stays firmly and stable where you need it.

This configuration of metal braziers in the shape of a boot is quite common. It combines a barbecue maker, a barbecue maker and even the possibility of cooking meat on a spit. The convenient grid table allows you to optimally arrange all the necessary tools and ingredients at hand.
