Place for fireplace

If you decide to install a flash fireplace at home, then first you need to determine the place. The choice of its location is very important so that you can qualitatively create the illusion that the fireplace is quite real.

  • First, we determine the room where we plan to install such a fireplace. Everything is simple here. Most likely, it will be a living room or hall. Less often, decorative fireplaces are installed in the bedroom.
  • Secondly, we are planning its placement. It is usually installed in the middle of a longitudinal wall. But here it all depends on your wishes and the design of the room, as well as on its technical capabilities.

You should not place the fireplace in places where it will interfere. For example, near cabinets, doors and batteries. This will not only complicate the installation work, but subsequently the fireplace may be damaged.

How to make

To make a decorative fireplace yourself, you will need a little drywall skills, the ability and desire to create, and, of course, a tool.

Initially, it is necessary to make drawings. First, draw a diagram of the location of the future fireplace, or even several, and then draw the fireplace in two projections, apply all the necessary dimensions. It is better to carry out the drawing in full size so that it is easy to try on the wall. We develop a sketch to the smallest detail, so that later you do not have to redo anything.

Based on the drawing, we make a model of the future fireplace from cardboard boxes or foam. It is necessary to create all the details of the fireplace, and install them on tape where you plan to place this decor element. Perform the layout carefully, completely in accordance with the project, in order to analyze errors in advance and eliminate them.

We proceed to the construction of the structure. During construction we need:

  1. Bulgarian;
  2. puncher;
  3. screwdriver;
  4. cutter;
  5. putty knife;
  6. stationery knife;
  7. scissors for metal;
  8. roulette;
  9. building level;
  10. pencil.

Initially, we transfer all the details of the future fireplace to sheets of drywall, and cut it out with a grinder. We mark all parts of the fireplace on the wall, use the building level to maintain a clear horizontal and vertical line. We install guides on the wall where it is planned to place the false fireplace. We do this with a puncher and dowels.

If you do not plan to install a false chimney and are thinking of organizing a shelf for photographs and figurines at the top, then you need to immediately strengthen the side racks for structural reliability. Lead a cable with electricity into the structure, so that later you can insert and connect an electric fireplace or LCD TV into the portal. You can assemble the frame separately, and only then install it on the wall. This option is more convenient if your fireplace is near a wall.

Now we sheathe the frame with plasterboard. We do everything carefully, remembering that a deviation of a few millimeters can distort the whole picture and will not make it possible to fill the portal in the future. If the facing of the false fireplace is supposed to be massive and heavy, then it is necessary to sheathe the future fireplace with two layers of drywall. Plasterboard sheets with a thickness of at least 1.2 cm are suitable for cladding a fireplace.

Next, we move on to the putty. Why it is necessary to process the edges of the drywall with an abrasive, prime and fill the fireplace completely. We also produce putty inside and outside. We use tape and perforated corners to connect the sheets together so that the grout adheres well and the surface becomes perfectly flat.

The next stage is finishing the false fireplace. You can decorate it with any material. Tiles, artificial stone are suitable here, plaster finish, granite, marble, simple painting and much more. It all depends on your imagination and the stylistic solution of the room as a whole.

But first you need to finish interior a decorative fireplace, especially if a heat appliance will be installed in it. Thermal insulation is necessary in this case. We trim the portal with magnesite and cover it with foil on top. Such a layer will reflect heat and will not allow the inner walls of the fireplace to heat up.

If heater in a false fireplace is not provided, then inside it can be trimmed with a mirror.

If the fireplace is finished artificial stone or marble, then finishing work in the form of a putty can be omitted. In this case, you just need to prime the drywall, and then glue the stone with special glue. Let the glue dry well and process all the seams between the stone with a special grout.

Another great way to decorate a drywall fireplace is decorative plaster... We put it on the fireplace, and, without waiting for the coating to dry, we simulate brickwork with a spatula.

Can be pasted over decorative film by choosing a suitable drawing. A huge selection of textures will make your fireplace unique.

After the fireplace has been finished, it is necessary to decorate it. For this we use various columns, stucco moldings, moldings. Such decor will add naturalness and completeness to the artificial fireplace.

A decorative shelf can be installed on the upper part of the fireplace, an electric fireplace or TV can be installed in the firebox.

Interior design

The design of a decorative fireplace can be performed in any stylistic solution, and it is possible to equip it in different ways. From what you fill the portal at the false fireplace, will determine the function of this decor element.

  1. Fireplace decorated in classic style, decorated with marble or granite, with an electric fireplace in the portal, will not only bring warmth to your room, but its presentable appearance will become the central accent in the interior.
  2. A false chimney will add naturalness to the fireplace.
  3. A brick-built fireplace with a TV in the firebox is suitable for a high-tech stylistic solution. Its clean lines and simple shapes fit perfectly into this style.
  4. Decorating in the form of Greek statues will add chic and fit into the bohemian style of the living room.
  5. For an apartment decorated in Art Nouveau style, a fireplace with minimal decoration is perfect.
  6. The candles in the portal will add a romantic touch to the decor of the room.
  7. This decorative fireplace can be used as a shelf for books.
  8. A corner false fireplace will be a decoration even in a small room.
  9. The top shelf can be decorated with statuettes for hours, giving English chic to the interior.
  10. A decorative fireplace, finished with stone, is perfect for a rustic room.

Reading time ≈ 3 minutes

Evening, twilight and dancing flame in the fireplace, which does not get boring to look at. The room is unusually cozy, a cup of hot cocoa in hand, what could be better? Many people think that a fireplace is a luxury available only to wealthy private homeowners. This is not the case, it can be installed in an ordinary apartment, even a one-room one, although it will be decorative without a chimney, pipes and valves, but the main details - a firebox, a portal, a shelf will be present. Even a woman can make a decorative fireplace with her own hands. Many ladies handle construction tools as well as men.

What can be used to make a decorative fireplace?

Brick will do, and not necessarily fireproof; lovers of eco-style will prefer wood. If after the repair remains edged board, it can also be used. A board with pieces of bark will look interesting, it will create a feeling of unity with nature. A transparent vase, an old aquarium that they already wanted to throw away - everything can turn into cozy hearth... Sometimes a fireplace is required for a children's party, creating a Christmas atmosphere. It is above him that the kids hang stockings for gifts. In this case, you will need cardboard, plywood. It will take very little time to build a hearth. The easiest way out is to purchase decorative items and glue them to the wall.

Drawing

Asking yourself the question of how to make a decorative fireplace with your own hands, you first need to draw a sketch, calculate the amount of material required. The hearth should look harmonious, fit into the interior of the room, not be a foreign element in it. It is placed in niches, near the wall, in the corner, where it does not interfere. For a small room, an almost flat hearth with a firebox depth of up to 30 cm is suitable; it is visually enlarged due to a mirror installed inside. To fully enjoy the play of light, the firebox should be at the level of the person's face. The optimal portal width is one and a half meters.

You can see a photo of a decorative fireplace with your own hands on our website. This will give someone an impetus to action, help to decide which hearth is suitable for your apartment.

The best material for a fireplace is drywall

Most often, drywall is used for an artificial hearth.

It is easy to cut with an ordinary stationery knife. After wetting the part, you can give it the desired shape. For the "skeleton" of the falshkamin, you will need a profile, its trimmings will go to the stiffening ribs, braces.

Plasterboard sheets are fixed with self-tapping screws to the frame.

The seams between the sheets, the ends of the fireplace, the attachment points of the self-tapping screws are putty, and the decorative fireplace with your own hands from drywall is almost ready.

The most exciting stage of work begins - decorative finishing.

The hearth can be painted, pasted over with foil, applied with artificial stone, pieces of glass or porcelain. Polyurethane stucco molding will look spectacular, especially if it is painted in bronze and silver.

The video posted on our website will help you make a decorative fireplace with your own hands. The grill will give the hearth authenticity.

The mantelpiece is made of artificial or natural stone, MDF, wood, plasterboard with tiles or porcelain stoneware. A backlight is mounted in the firebox, or candles are placed. And you can enjoy the play of light or flame.

The desire for comfort and coziness is inherent in each of us. The warmth of the hearth are non-empty words. What could be better than spending your evenings by the fireplace watching the flames? Owners of private houses can afford a real fireplace, but for residents of city apartments, unfortunately, this is an unaffordable luxury. But for true masters, nothing is impossible, and today we will tell you how to make a false fireplace in an apartment.

What is a false fireplace and why is it needed

In a city apartment, conditions will not allow you to install an ordinary fireplace. The absence of chimneys, ceilings that are not designed for such loads are the main obstacles in order to obtain a permit for the construction of such a structure. False fireplaces come to the rescue, which you can easily assemble on your own, without having special skills in construction work.

Of course, you can buy an electric fireplace - such devices are now common, and their installation will not take much time and effort. But creating a fireplace with your own hands is a very exciting experience, it gives free rein to imagination, allows you to make an exclusive thing. In addition, an open fire is not necessary in an apartment (and it is unlikely that you will be allowed to do that), and a false fireplace will serve you as a multifunctional decoration.

Note! Although you will not light a fire in a fake fireplace, still do not put flammable items underneath. Especially if the structure covers heating batteries or you plan to place electrical appliances in the firebox.

The false fireplace looks like a real one

Artificial fireplaces have the following advantages:

  • low cost - you only need money for materials;
  • the availability of materials required for the manufacture of the structure;
  • the ability to change the decor at any time according to your mood;
  • use of inexpensive, but original and beautiful materials in decoration.

False fireplaces are divided into 3 groups:

  1. Reliable artificial fireplaces completely imitate the real ones, observing both the dimensions and the design principles. Inside the firebox, you can install a biofireplace burner, which will provide an almost exact effect of a burning hearth. Quite an expensive option, but it looks the most believable.
  2. Conditional false fireplaces have a portal protruding from the wall. They can be decorated to your liking and desire. The furnace hole is usually filled with wood or put candles there.
  3. Symbolic can be performed from any materials. Their peculiarity is that they do not at all look like a regular fireplace. It can even be a drawing on the wall with some decorative elements.

Manufacturing options

For the manufacture of artificial fireplaces, the most simple materials, which can always be found not only in the store, but also at home:

  • drywall;
  • plywood;
  • Styrofoam;
  • cardboard;
  • tree;
  • brick;
  • polyurethane.

You can make such a structure even out of old furniture that has already served its purpose, but it's a pity to throw it away.

This is the simplest and quick way... You only need to buy a polyurethane fireplace portal. The hardest part of this task will be choosing the style and size suitable for the room, and everything else will take you a minimum of time and effort.

If you want to insert an electric fireplace, take into account its installation and overall dimensions, the method of connecting to the mains and the quality of ventilation.

Lightweight polyurethane raised fireplace body will save you a lot of installation hassle

You will need:

  • polyurethane fireplace portal;
  • contact adhesive;
  • putty;
  • materials for finishing the firebox (for example, decorative bricks).

And now we will tell you step by step how to install such a fireplace.

  1. The best place to install such a fireplace is one of the side walls of the room. The structure should not clutter up the room and interfere with the passage.
  2. If you decide to place an electric fireplace or decorative electric lighting inside the portal, first take care of the wiring and the outlet.
  3. Make the frame of the firebox from a profile or wooden bars, and the walls from plywood or drywall.
  4. Install the portal, carefully fix it with contact adhesive. Carefully fill the gaps between the portal and the firebox with finishing putty.
  5. Decorate the firebox in the style of your choice, or install an electric fireplace. If desired, you can install a mantel made of artificial stone or wood.

Such portals are made not only of polyurethane, but also of wood. They are much more expensive, but among them you can find real masterpieces, additionally equipped, for example, with a built-in bar.

Plywood construction

This idea comes in handy if you need to hide a flaw in the room, such as an old radiator that can be expensive to replace. A false fireplace will come in handy here.

The need to cover up the old heating radiator- an excellent opportunity to install a false fireplace

Carry out calculations and make a drawing of the future structure. This will help you not to waste extra money and time.

Standard fireplace drawing

Note! When you develop a drawing, refer to ready-made options for stone fireplaces. Relying on them, you can easily design your false fireplace.

First of all, install the frame directly in place. Wooden blocks are suitable for him.

Frame made of bars for a raised fireplace

Next, sheathe the frame with plywood. The design of the fireplace and its appearance can be adjusted during operation. For example, you can add a podium to the portal. Inside the structure is located heating battery, therefore, it is better to assemble the frame on screws: nails in conditions high temperature do not guarantee a tight fit of the plywood to the bars in the future.

Plasterboard frame

By back wall fix a firebox on the bar that simulates a fireplace. Cover all surfaces visible from the outside with self-adhesive tape.

Install the firebox and cover it with foil

Close the corners of the portal with a wooden layout, and glue it over with a film of the same color.

The corners of the portal must be closed and also pasted over with foil

This design is easily removable (it is not attached to the wall at this stage), and you can easily access the radiator. The fireplace insert needs to be decorated with something, so a metal mesh tray can be put on the battery.

Metal mesh tray that will become the bottom of the firebox

You will fill it with pebbles, wood or other decorative elements.

Fall asleep in metal mesh pebbles or other filler

You can order a fireplace grate or make it yourself. For this you need a copper profile. If not, aluminum wire, inserted into a PVC tube and painted with gold paint, will do. Such a grate is attached to the body of the fireplace with copper wire in 4 places.

Metal grill diagram

Pipes that go to the battery can be closed by extending the podium.

So that useful space does not go to waste, make a bar under the mantel.

Using extra space

As a result, you will get such a fireplace, almost indistinguishable from the real one.

New life of old furniture

This is the most a budget option... You probably have an old cupboard or sideboard. Take your time to throw away this piece of furniture: on its basis, you can easily make a wonderful imitation of a fireplace with lighting.

you will need:

  • plywood sheets;
  • sander for wood;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • acrylic paint;
  • putty;
  • LED Strip Light;
  • stucco molding, decorative elements, gypsum finishing stone;
  • surface.
  1. Remove the doors from the old sideboard, remove the lower cabinet. The top section will remain, place it on its side.

    Preparing the old sideboard for work

  2. Screw in two beams at the front.

    Screw on 2 bars

  3. Fasten two sheets of plywood onto the blocks from above and below. This will give the fireplace the required thickness.

    Secure the plywood sheets

  4. Saw out in the door of the side cabinet (which is now at the bottom) a hole for the "blower". You can store firewood here, just like in a real fireplace.

    Cut a hole for the "blower"

  5. Your raised fireplace will need a plinth and a mantel. In their capacity, two backs from the old bed can act. Do not forget to unscrew their legs.

    The headboards will serve as a pedestal and a mantelpiece

  6. The design is ready, now you need to start finishing works... Grind polished surfaces to roughen them. Prime the walls; after they dry - putty and level the surface. Dry the putty, sand the unevenness. Paint the case acrylic paint, trim the corners with brick or artificial stone. Stick on decorative elements, install a mantel.

  7. Decorate the firebox. Glue the LED strip around the perimeter. Red or yellow will do - they perfectly imitate a smoldering fire. Pour shells, pebbles or sand at the bottom.

The end result is a gorgeous vintage style fireplace like this.

Imitation of a plasterboard fireplace

This time we will consider the option of a plasterboard corner fireplace. This task will be more difficult than the previous ones. Why a corner fireplace? Because in the conditions small apartment the corner is the most free place that is ideal for installing such a structure.

Corner false plasterboard fireplace

So, you will need the following materials:

  • metal profile - 13 pcs;
  • moisture resistant drywall 9.5 mm - 3 sheets;
  • tiles - 5 m;
  • self-tapping screws - 200 pcs;
  • tile grout;
  • LED Strip Light;
  • decorative lattice.
  1. Calculate the dimensions. Please note: if you need to close the battery, you need to do it so that it can be easily reached. For possible emergencies, it is better to run the battery through the lower opening.

    Approximate diagram of a corner fireplace

  2. After the calculations are done, and the fireplace diagram is drawn up, begin to mount the frame. A ceiling profile will fit for him, and besides, it is cheaper.
  3. Do electrical wiring for the backlight immediately. As you can see in the first photo, in our case there are three output points: two on the facade and one above the shelf. An LED strip is used as a backlight.
  4. The combustion hole can be made with double walls. A non-combustible insulation will be laid between them.

    Decorating a false fireplace with decorative tiles

  5. For decorative finishing you can use stone tiles. It is made of plaster and therefore not suitable for work surfaces.

This fireplace takes approximately 1.6 square meters... A small electric fireplace or a small alcohol burner can be placed inside the firebox.

Finishing

It is very important that the fireplace fits harmoniously into the interior of the room. The style and color should be carefully chosen. But in addition, the decorative finish should be pleasing to the eye and create coziness.

How to achieve imitation of fire in the fireplace? Above, we have suggested options with LED strip, which provides a backlight with a burning effect. But progress does not stand still, and an electronic photo frame can serve you well. It is a liquid crystal display that is adapted to show pictures. You need a model that can play animated files such as GIFs. Upload an image of a burning fire to your photo frame and enjoy!

  • Many owners of false fireplaces are very fond of decorating niches with placed candles of different heights. It looks beautiful, stylish, and gives a real live fire.
  • An excellent choice would be to install a mirror deep in the furnace niche, on the wall. The mirror will multiply the reflections from candles or electric lights and add mystery to the fireplace.
  • Artificial stone will help you to provide the effect of an expensive finish. It is presented in a variety of color and texture options. Tiles, bas-reliefs and decorative tiles will add expressive individuality to the structure. But do not overdo it: excessive pomp may be out of place in your interior.
  • Doors for false fireplaces, perhaps, will be superfluous, but if you decide to install them, make them from plexiglass. They can be transparent or tinted, but the light and glare of the "fire" are simply required to pass.
  • It is better to arrange a fireplace imitation firebox with a forged metal grate. It can be bought or ordered from a workshop.

Photos of exquisite interiors of apartments or houses, the main decoration of which is a decorative fireplace, won many hearts of connoisseurs of comfort and beauty. It will not be difficult to create the same interesting art object at home or in the country. Designers have come up with many ways to decorate the original hearth using inexpensive materials and with minimal skills.

What is a decorative fireplace

A full-fledged hearth with a chimney, a firebox, a real living fire is a luxury not available to everyone. The designers suggested that the imitation of the fireplace would look very advantageous in home interior... Such a decorative object can be not only a simple decoration, but also a functional piece of furniture - a shelf for books, CDs, home photos.

DIY decorative fireplace

Dreaming of a home, you can create an artificial fireplace with your own hands or purchase a finished product. A simple decorative solution is an electric false fireplace in the interior, it can be purchased at any home appliance store. An electric fireplace is suitable for rooms that require additional heating. An eco-fireplace looks interesting, it uses ethyl alcohol with the addition of bioethanol to create an even flame without smoke or soot. The biofireplace in the interior is very popular, not only floor-standing, but also desktop, wall-mounted eco-friendly hearths are used

Drywall

Ready-made bio- and electrical devices, although they look attractive, do not always fit the interior, and are not affordable for everyone. Interesting solution- decorative plasterboard fireplaces. A non-standard fake hearth will allow you to transform the living room without spending a lot of money. Another important advantage: you can decorate the original structure in any style, using stone, brick, wood, forging.

First, it is worth preparing a full-size drawing in order to calculate the dimensions of the structure, individual elements. You will need, in addition to drywall sheets, metal profiles, self-tapping screws for metal. Step-by-step instructions will help you implement your project:

  1. A frame is attached to the wall metal profile, which will play the role of a supporting element, a frame is made from a profile, self-tapping screws are used.
  2. The frame is sheathed with plasterboard.
  3. Plasterboard joints, fastening points of self-tapping screws are sealed with putty, alignment, surface grinding is performed.
  4. The fireplace is finished with artificial stone, a ceramic plate, it can be decorated with decorative elements made of polyurethane, a decorative grill.

Made of cardboard

When you want to create an inexpensive but spectacular decoration on the eve of the New Year holidays, a decorative cardboard fireplace will ideally fulfill this role, especially if you take care of the decoration: garlands, New Year's boots, candles. You need to prepare:

  • thick cardboard (you can use packaging from household appliances);
  • construction tape;
  • PVA glue;
  • tools.

Having estimated the dimensions of the future object, having prepared the drawing, you can get to work:

  1. Using a sharp stationery knife, scotch tape, PVA glue, a portal is created from cardboard. It is more difficult to carry out a corner fireplace. Having accurately measured the angle, you need to calculate the dimensions of the structure so that large gaps do not form between the walls and the upper tabletop.
  2. The front part of the decorative fireplace is trimmed with polyurethane moldings, including around the firebox.
  3. When all the parts are firmly fixed, the structure is putty, leveling all errors, and polished.
  4. Painting is carried out with water-based paint.

Styrofoam

If there are materials left from the repair, you should try to make a decorative foam fireplace. It will turn out to be an inexpensive imitation of a fireplace in an apartment, if everything is done correctly:

  1. Styrofoam sheets are cut with a clerical knife: two pieces measuring 60x40 cm and two 40x20 cm.
  2. The workpieces are glued at right angles to the joints, lubricated with PVA glue and fixed with wooden toothpicks, tape from the inside.
  3. In the front of the frame, a firebox is cut out with a knife.
  4. The frame must be primed, cleaned with fine sandpaper, painted with water-based paint.
  5. The decor is carried out with an elegant ribbon, finishing paper, polyurethane skirting boards, moldings, decorative elements.

Made of wood

Solid and functional will turn out to be a false fireplace made of wood. An accurate drawing will help to avoid mistakes and unnecessary waste of material. The frame is made of timber section 40x40 mm, plywood is used for sheathing. With some experience in carpentry, such an object can be made in a few evenings:

  1. The timber is marked, with the help of self-tapping screws for the tree, the base of the fireplace is made. Vertical racks are fastened to the wall with dowel-nails.
  2. Plywood sheet 0.5-0.7 cm thick, mark and cut with an electric jigsaw or a hand hacksaw in accordance with the dimensions. Sections are processed with sandpaper.
  3. Plywood is attached to wooden frame self-tapping screws, sheathing the base and the firebox.
  4. The decor of the fireplace is carried out using a finishing film, wallpaper, decorative panels, polyurethane moldings and moldings.

Do-it-yourself imitation of fire in the fireplace

What is a fireplace without a bewitching flame? You can simulate fire in a fireplace with your own hands different ways... The simplest solution is to install the backlight using a Candle lamp or LED strip. An interesting effect will be obtained if you perform a composition for which you need:

  • wooden branches;
  • beautiful stones;
  • lace;
  • foil,
  • New Year's garland;
  • PVA glue.

The sequence of work is as follows:

  1. Each branch is wrapped with foil, a layer of glue is applied on top and overlapped with lace.
  2. When the glued branches have dried, the lace shell is carefully removed by cutting along the branch with a clerical knife. P
  3. In the hearth, stones are laid out in a circle, in the middle of which an LED garland is installed. The openwork branches are placed vertically, at an angle, so that the lower edges rest on the stones, and the upper ones touch each other. You can make the structure more durable with glue, tape.
  4. It remains to connect the garland and admire the flickering lights.

Artificial fire for fireplace

There are other ways to depict a fake fire in a fireplace, both expensive and budget. For example, it is not difficult to simulate fire using a hologram, for which you need to purchase a picture of a flame depicted in three-dimensional format. Having installed a picture in the firebox, you need to install lighting using halogen or LED lamps. 3D image, skillfully backlit by flickering light, will enhance the feeling of living fire

Imitation firewood for fireplace

Using an LED strip or a garland for illumination, you can lay out a picturesque pyramid of firewood in the firebox, masking the backlight between them. Online stores sell special artificial wood for the fireplace made of plastic and ceramics. You just need to connect such elements to the mains, and they will be beautifully illuminated from the inside by built-in bulbs.

False fireplace with candles

A false fireplace with candles looks cozy in the interior. When arranging it, it is important to remember about fire safety. Thick candles are installed in the fireplace insert lined with non-combustible materials. Compositions of candles of different heights look especially advantageous. It is pleasant to light the lights on winter evenings, their flickering light creates a special atmosphere of warmth and love.

Video: How to make a decorative fireplace with your own hands

Creating a false fireplace is a fascinating activity; even women can implement such a project. The main thing is to study the advice of specialists, think over the design well and take care of fire safety if it is supposed to use live fire. The videos will help you understand the basic principles of building a decorative fireplace from different materials.

In anticipation of the New Year's magic, I want to transform my home, add coziness and festive mood. I recall European Christmas tales and films, where there is always a fireplace with spruce twigs and red balls in the interior.

Do you think that installing a decorative hearth on the eve of the gift boom is an impermissible waste? Then make a fireplace out of boxes. Yes, exactly of those that should have been thrown away for a long time, but somehow their hands did not rise.

At the same time, free the pantry for the new year!

Like any homemade creative craft, making a fireplace starts with planning. This stage may seem superfluous and boring when an idea is already growing in your head and you want to quickly translate it into reality. But it is required. Without the right sketch, "building" a hearth will take a lot of time and effort, and the result can be disappointing.

At the planning stage, we do the following:

  • we carefully select a place for a decorative element, since it is undesirable to move the finished structure;
  • we determine the style and prevailing colors in the interior: a decorative fireplace should harmoniously fit into the atmosphere, and not stand out with its absurdity;
  • we collect "building" material (any cardboard boxes will do) and choose the appropriate shape and size;
  • we make a drawing of the desired design with a detailed indication of all dimensions;
  • we select a method of decorative finishing and prepare a drawing-sketch of a fireplace in color (very often what we draw in our imagination turns out to be far from ideal, but all the flaws will be immediately visible on paper).

When choosing a decoration method, we advise you to walk through a hardware store. If you have not done repairs for a long time, then you will be surprised how many new materials and mixtures have appeared on the market. Perhaps such a walk will push you into original idea painting or coating with imitation material.

Do not rush to simplify everything as much as possible, because the manufacturing process itself is already quite simple. Enough attention should be paid to decorating the structure. Otherwise, you will get a craft at the level of a school lesson in labor, which will not fool anyone or surprise.

What is required?

The simplest design to manufacture is obtained from a box from a TV with a large diagonal. Small boxes, for example from small household appliances or from under shoes, will need to be glued and resized.

Packaging for large household appliances (refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers and washing machines) it is better to disassemble it into cardboard sheets and form a fireplace box from scratch.

To create a hearth, in addition to cardboard boxes, you may need:

  • a piece of drywall or foam for the mantel;
  • a roll of white paper for pasting;
  • masking tape;
  • stationery tape;
  • Double-sided tape;
  • long ruler, tape measure and pencil;
  • sponge, wide brush and two small ones;
  • scissors and a stationery knife;
  • PVA glue (for gluing cardboard);

Get inspired: best ideas

If you are seriously thinking of making a fireplace out of boxes or sheets of cardboard with your own hands, then the ideas we have selected will help you understand what variations are possible and be inspired to create your own masterpiece.

A fireplace in the form of the letter "P" without a base is easy to manufacture. Imitation of brickwork from red paper bricks or wallpaper corresponds to the New Year's theme.

The red brick fireplace and green spruce are a classic color range holiday.

To create the desired effect, an image of burning logs can be glued to the inner wall of the hearth. Such a fabulous version can be used as a props for a children's matinee or for a home performance.

The image of the fire inside the fireplace can be more realistic, especially if you find a 3D format. If you take not individual bricks for pasting, but wallpaper or a special blank for brickwork, then it will turn out even more interesting. But here you need even corners and the correct shape.

You can also paint bricks on the surface. It will take longer, but it will look more believable. You can put rolled paper or thin cardboard into the firebox.

The use of plaster, followed by the application of masonry figures, transforms the lightweight cardboard structure into a solid stone structure. White color marble will perfectly fit into the interior of the bedroom with pastel colors.

An excellent place for a fireplace is the wall between the windows in the spacious living room of a private house. Option with a chimney in large room looks impressive.

For a fireplace in an aristocratic style under a white massive stone, decorative elements made of expanded polystyrene (patterns, strips) and a ceiling molding are well suited.

They are glued with polymer glue to the finished, but not painted structure. It is important to maintain symmetry.

Instead of wrapping the boxes with white paper, you can use fabric wrapping in a specific color. Feel free to involve children in the process: joint crafts strengthen relationships and develop imagination.

An excellent option for a small hearth. It is more stable, so it can be placed not only against a wall. It will perfectly decorate the hallway. You can put a bunch of twigs from the park in the firebox, and to simulate fire, cut out a flame from colored paper or put short LED garlands (you can have a flickering effect). The presence of dim light from the fireplace will fill the apartment with coziness and warmth.

If space permits, then you can put a large false fireplace as high as a person's height. The mantelpiece can be decorated with themed figurines and a miniature herringbone. We leave a cupboard in place of the firebox - the size of the fireplace allows it. A bowl of sweets will replace the attraction of the flickering fire.

If the apartment does not have a free wall for the fireplace, then you can use the idea of a corner construction. Its creation is not distinguished by increased complexity, but here special attention is paid to geometric proportions. A harmonious solution would be a right-angled isosceles triangle at the base of the triangular prism.

To create a festive atmosphere in a cozy corner, light a few tea candles in the firebox, and place decor or tangerines on the shelf.

New Year is the most fabulous holiday and you must meet it surrounded by magic. Create magic for yourself and your loved ones from available materials for three free evenings.

Master class: mini-fireplace from one box

Sometimes you want to festively decorate not only your home, but also your office or your workplace... In this case, it is enough to make a mini-fireplace that can be placed on a windowsill, open shelf or desk.

For crafts you will need:

  • 1 medium box;
  • 3 small elongated boxes;
  • glue gun or ordinary PVA glue;
  • a piece of cardboard for the mantel;
  • cut of wallpaper with brickwork or self-adhesive oilcloth;
  • white water-based paint;
  • decor (fir branches, garlands, candles);
  • scissors and pencil.

Introducing step by step instructions for manufacturing:

At the bottom of the box we glue all the doors. On the front side, bend one long sash (it will serve as a protruding base of the fireplace), and glue the other to two short sashes.

We put small boxes around the perimeter of the resulting window and make pencil markings.

Using the markings made, we expand the window, cutting off the excess cardboard with scissors. Then we glue the boxes.

Cut out decorative elements from the cut cardboard (you can think of something original). We glue the blanks and slats on the fireplace.

We glue the cardboard mantelpiece, it should protrude 4-5 cm, forming a visor. We paint the craft with white paint in several layers. It is advisable to paint over from all sides.

We fix the decor made of plastic or metal with polymer glue. On the inner wall and on the protruding bent base with glue, a piece of wallpaper cut to size.

We complete the decoration with New Year's decor and candles.

Master class: fireplace with an arch cutout

A simple way to make a homemade fireplace from two old boxes.

You will need:

  • 2 large boxes of the same size;
  • stationery tape;
  • knife and scissors;
  • a sheet of cardboard;
  • gray wrapping paper;
  • brick-colored paint;
  • sponge for applying paint;
  • decor for decoration and imitation of fire in the firebox.

And now the whole process is step by step:

We take two old boxes and connect them to make a large box. Gently glue all joints and seams with tape.

We make a cornice for the fireplace from cardboard.

We cut out an arch in the box (it is better to first make the necessary markings). We wrap the box and cornice with wrapping paper. We cut out a window in the place of the arch and glue the edges of the paper.

We glue the cornice with tape.

We paint over interior walls fireplace with black paint in a spray can (this is done on the street). We dilute the paint of the desired shade for applying bricks. Using a sponge, apply bricks to the surface and leave to dry.

Firewood and candles on a black background create a special atmosphere.

Master class: corner fireplace made of cardboard sheets with a chimney

One of the options for a corner fireplace was presented above. Its creation from a cardboard box is not difficult. A more complex and interesting design is obtained from sheets of cardboard with a chimney.

First you need to prepare:

  • cardboard sheets;
  • tape measure and long ruler;
  • pencil, scissors and stationery knife;
  • glue gun;
  • paint white and red.

When all the materials and tools are ready, you can start working. In this project, it is very important to draw up a preliminary drawing and make all measurements. It is more convenient to immediately cut the necessary blanks. And in order not to get confused, sign the dimensions on them. Then all that remains is to assemble the constructor.

Detailed manufacturing process:

Cut out triangular bases with a rounding. You will need 4 blanks to create a solid structure. We glue a border made of cardboard pieces to one of the blanks. Create stiffeners inside the resulting box.

We close the structure with a second blank and get a solid base for the fireplace. We do the top in the same way.

For reliability, we fix the joints with masking tape and glue the resulting parts to the side panels.

We install a panel inside the fireplace to close the corner. From the sides we install the planks and form a wide "wall" with stiffening ribs. We cover the finished structure with a primer and white paint.

We cut blanks from cardboard for decorating the fireplace inside and outside. We make elements for interior design wider and shorter and paint in pink color... It is better to make elements for the external design narrower and more authentic, they are painted red, creating a contrast. We glue the fireplace inside and outside with blanks.

We are starting to manufacture a chimney with stiffening ribs. On the front side we glue a whole sheet of cardboard. We paint the chimney with white paint and create a wood imitation.

We fix the chimney and decorate with New Year's decor.
