How to make a modern apartment out of Khrushchev. Design of one-room Khrushchev

Khrushchevs are small apartments built in the last century. Despite their size, I want to make the design of a small apartment in Khrushchev as functional and attractive as possible. So, a small kitchen, a room and a bathroom can be turned into an apartment of your dreams, you just have to choose the right interior. Making a Khrushchev can really be a problem. However, Dekorin offers its solution and photos of real apartments for your inspiration.

Design of a small apartment of 30 sq. m. in Khrushchev

A one-room apartment can be saved by redevelopment, that is, connecting a room with a kitchen. Thus, you will make a 30 sq. m. a real studio apartment. In addition, you can connect the room with the hallway, and then the area will increase even more.

There is no need to worry that the space will "merge", because you can zone the room using arches or different elements of floor and wall decoration. It will be good to include a wardrobe or a sofa that converts into a bed in the design of small Khrushchev apartments, because then you do not have to allocate a separate place for the sleeping area.

Let's see how best to design the design of small rooms in a Khrushchev apartment. We will analyze all the interiors one by one and give illustrative photos. You can get ideas for modern bathroom design in our article Small combined bathroom - 25 photos of bathrooms.

Design of small rooms in an apartment: entrance hall in Khrushchev

In the event that the hallway is long and narrow, it would be wise to create two zones. One of them will serve as a direct hallway, while the second will be the entrance to the hall. It is in the last zone that a richer design should be made with beautiful arch(in no case is it recommended to put a door here, because it will steal free space and visually reduce the area).

As for the furniture, in the interior of the Khrushchev apartment it must be used to a minimum: a mirror wardrobe or an ordinary hanger with a shoe rack is enough to place regularly used things.

In any case, it is important that there is a full-length mirror in the hallway, because it will not only allow you to admire your reflection, but also visually increase the space of a small room.

Design ideas for a small kitchen in Khrushchev

The design of a small apartment in Khrushchev will not do without the design of the kitchen area. The area of the kitchen in Khrushchev usually does not exceed 6 square meters. m., which means you should make it as functional as possible. The main purpose of a small kitchen is precisely cooking, and with the right interior you can make this process convenient and free.

If the kitchen is too small, the dining table with chairs can be placed in another room, leaving only the appliances and work surfaces. If you do leave the dining area in the kitchen, then make sure that it is round or oval, that is, without sharp edges.

To make a small room in an apartment more spacious, you can install sliding doors to the kitchen or remove them completely if you have a powerful hood. It is good if the curtains in the kitchen are light and let in the rays of the sun: this way it will always be light in the kitchen and you will visually increase the space. The ceiling should also be in light colors, and it is better to hang one chandelier, but a large one. Walls and furniture should not be dark, otherwise the kitchen will seem small. Will very well complement the interior of a small kitchen glass apron, because it will not only decorate the room, but also visually expand the space.

How to design a living room in Khrushchev (with photo)

Of course, speaking about the design of small rooms in an apartment, special attention should be paid to the design of the hall. Even before the start of the renovation, the preferences of all residents of the apartment should be taken into account, because the living room should have a cozy atmosphere for warm family meetings after work and study. Consider also how often you host guests: you may need extra beds. Or do you love solitude and silence? In this case, you can get by with a minimum of furniture without cluttering up the space.

As for the color scheme, it is better to use light shades for the hall in Khrushchev: this makes the room seem wider and lighter. However, bright color accents are also needed so that the room does not look too monotonous. It is better to make the walls plain or with a small pattern, and also, if desired, one of the walls can be decorated with a large-scale image.

Furniture in a small living room in an apartment should be compact and functional. In the design of small apartments, the Khrushchevs are 30 sq. m. the hall also serves as a bedroom, so you will need to use either a folding furniture transformer, or curtains and partitions to separate the berth. It is important to find a middle ground in the design of a small room in an apartment and stick to it in everything.

When choosing lighting for a small room in a Khrushchev, abandon bulky overhanging structures in favor of laconic models. Pay attention also to spot lighting and then, perhaps, the chandelier will not be needed at all. It is good to install table lamps or sconces in the writing and reading areas, as well as take care of sufficient room lighting during the day.

Design of a small apartment in Khrushchev: 28 photos of the best options updated: May 26, 2017 by the author: Oksana Krutsenko

Design two-room apartment in Khrushchev remains a hot topic for many families. Houses built in the distant 50-60s of the last century with small adjoining rooms and a combined bathroom remain the main living space for millions of people. With small areas, I really want to get their optimal distribution and beautiful design... It is not at all surprising that the project “Design of an apartment with an area of 42 sq. m (two-room Khrushchev) "or the design project" Two-room apartment (45 sq. m., Khrushchev) "are still in great demand and are popular.

The concept of "Khrushchev" has long been included in the everyday life of Russians. In the old days, these standard houses made a real housing revolution, ripping out millions of people from hostels and communal apartments. If in those distant years it was a dream to get such an apartment, nowadays, taking into account the improvement in the quality of life, there are a lot of problems with such housing.

Modern interior of the old Khrushchev

What are the characteristics of such apartments of the same type? One of the most common options: a two-room apartment. Its features: two adjacent living rooms, a small kitchen with an area of approximately 6 sq. m, a small entrance hall and a bathroom combined with a toilet. The total area is 40-46 sq. m with a living area of 26-31 sq. m. The ceiling is very low: 250-260 cm. It should be noted that most of these apartments have a small balcony. The thickness of the internal capital walls is 22-32 cm, and the thickness of the partitions is 7-9 cm.

In modern conditions, the owners of such apartments have a natural desire to increase the comfort of living. Design projects of two-room apartments (Khrushchev), in principle, are possible in several versions of changing the type of living space in order to expand the living space and its improvement. The first option is a radical restructuring of the entire internal layout, that is, the demolition of all interior walls with the creation of a single space. This path is complicated by the need to agree on the plan in the relevant authorities, which is quite difficult to do.

The second option is a partial reconstruction with the elimination of only partitions. This method allows you to combine some rooms, for example, a kitchen-room, a hallway-room. Finally, the design of a two-room apartment in Khrushchev can be carried out without rebuilding, but using modern trends and styles.

What can you think of without redevelopment

If the redevelopment of the apartment is not available for some reason, then elegant solutions can be found without changing the boundaries. indoor spaces... Photos of the design of a two-room apartment in Khrushchev can be easily found on the Internet in large quantities, for every taste. The main direction is a visual increase in the volume of the room. You can dwell on some options:

  1. Additional usable area can be obtained by constructing some elements of drywall. The basis is made up of decorative niches, shelves, racks, elements located at different levels.
  2. Increasing the size of window and doorways, the formation of arched openings allows for a visual increase in volume by almost a quarter.
  3. Sliding doors and partitions allow you to effectively design a two-room apartment in Khrushchev, where the rooms are walk-through.
  4. Mirror finishing of niches and openings, mirror wall covering significantly increase the visual volume and create an attractive interior.

Using sliding doors

Panoramic windows in the apartment to expand space and light

Sometimes, to make the space seem larger, you simply need to repair the two-room Khrushchev, and it is absolutely not necessary to redevelop. That is why pay attention to the following elements as well:

  1. The color of the walls and furniture. Dark tones visually reduce space and absorb light. Try to use light shades. Yes, this step has irrefutable disadvantages: you will have to regularly clean, because dirt is very noticeable on light surfaces. Nevertheless, this solution is one of the most popular among residents.
  2. Do a general cleaning - as part of the repair, get rid of those things that you use less often than once a week. Place them in a storage bin if they are dear to you as a memory, or simply throw them away - such clutter negatively affects the size of the apartment, the mood of the residents and the atmosphere of the apartment as a whole.
  3. By the way, about the storage bin: using it, you will be able to rationally use the cabinets in the rooms of the Khrushchev, because it will be possible to transport winter clothes to another place.
  4. When carrying out repairs in a 2-room Khrushchev, be guided by the projects of Asian and European designers for housing with an area of 15-20 m2 (examples in the photo). Of course, you are unlikely to be able to ideally re-plan your apartment to meet the given standards, but you will not be able to find useful ideas, like, beds and headsets built into the walls, will definitely succeed.

Some design tricks

A significant role in the visual expansion of space and the creation of the effect of lightness small apartment plays the right combination of color, pattern and material for wall, floor and ceiling decoration. The design of a two-room apartment in Khrushchev can be based on some tricks that are sometimes used by designers and interior professionals:

  1. Pastel color tones with a predominance of light shades create the desired visual effect, while bright and intense color provides a visual compression effect.
  2. For small rooms, a small color pattern, ornamentation is suitable.
  3. The height of the room visually increases when the ceiling is white or close to white. Stretch ceilings can be used.
  4. The effect of height is provided by a multi-level structure of the plasterboard ceiling. The correct selection of lighting fixtures can enhance the effect.
  5. The floor covering can be light or colored, but must match the overall color palette room interior. Colour floor covering is also able to visually push the walls apart.
  6. The choice of furniture is an important element. The design of a two-room apartment in Khrushchev means minimizing the number of items. They should be matched to the overall design. For small rooms, folding tables, sliding-type sofas, multifunctional chests of drawers are most optimal.
  7. Wall murals have gone out of fashion a little, but with the right choice, you can ensure the airiness and visual infinity of the room.
  8. Window curtains complement the overall impression of the interior. In small rooms, you should not hang bulky curtains, especially in dark shades. It is best to use lightweight fabrics in light colors.

Preparing for redevelopment

As a rule, when planning a 2-room Khrushchev in the 50-60s, standard, pre-prepared options approved by the state were used. On the one hand, you have the opportunity to target residents who have already made repairs. On the other hand, it kills the individuality of the apartment, limiting room for maneuver.

The best way to avoid this is to redevelop, but first you need to draw up a floor plan. The layout scheme for a 2-room Khrushchev includes:

  • electrical wiring diagram;
  • number and location of outlets;
  • footage of rooms;
  • wall thickness;
  • location of water pipes.

Of course, there are companies that can organize a comprehensive analysis of your apartment, but it would be more profitable to separately coordinate the project with an electrician and a plumber by ordering wiring diagrams.

Using redevelopment

One of the most common design options for a small apartment is the combination of a kitchen and a room. Having created a large enough room after removing the partition between the kitchen and the room, you should take care of the original and elegant zoning of the new space. For example, the appearance in the room of three zones: a kitchen, a dining room and a lounge (receiving guests).

Some general rules for zoning an apartment in Khrushchev can be noted:

  1. Each family member should have a dedicated personal area. Moreover, the area of such a zone, as a rule, does not matter.
  2. When combining a living room with a kitchen, the working kitchen area with a stove and a sink must be clearly highlighted and conditionally fenced, kitchen cabinets and a refrigerator.
  3. Quite often, such areas are highlighted as: an office, a seating area with a TV and the ability to listen to music, a comfortable chair or sofa, a computer space, etc. When erecting fences, remember that they should be lightweight, removable. Do not get carried away with stationary partitions.
  4. As delimiting elements, you can use: a bar counter, a sofa, a table, a rack, a prefabricated structure from multilevel shelves. Conditional zoning is carried out by changing the level of the floor or ceiling, using different colors. An openwork or honeycomb design looks elegant, along which climbing indoor plants are skipped. The kitchen work area is often highlighted with additional lighting, for which spotlights are installed.

Zoning with a multi-level ceiling

Filament curtains - correctly zoning the space

When redeveloping a Khrushchev, as a rule, it is convenient to get rid of the wall separating 2 adjacent rooms, while the best option to keep the distinction between them is filament curtains (example in the photo). Unlike a thick wall, such a curtain takes up less space, lets in light and fresh air, and most importantly, it can be removed at any time, making the room visually larger. This decor element will allow you to create an individual fashionable design in an ordinary Khrushchev: a beautiful appearance is combined with the practicality inherent in modern styles.

Minimalism is the best style of small apartments

Often, the style of the interior requires a room decor that takes up a lot of space - which cannot be said about minimalism! This option in every possible way stimulates the minimization of the number of objects in the apartment, which is just right for the design of a Khrushchev with 2 adjacent rooms (examples in the photo below).

The color scheme, as a rule, is used light - this visually expands the space and has a positive effect on the psychological state of a person. The most popular shades of white, blue, beige, etc.

Various design solutions

There are different projects for redevelopment of a small-sized Khrushchev. One of these projects is called an office apartment. In this case, a large room, an entrance hall and a kitchen are combined into one fairly spacious room. The small room is completely isolated and turns into a bedroom (there is also a wardrobe). In a large room, a small study is clearly distinguished, which is best separated by a transparent sliding partition in order to drain into a single space if necessary. The zones are marked: a working kitchen area and a dining room.

The bathroom is also being renovated. Instead of a sitting bath, a shower cabin is installed and a washing machine is placed, and, if possible, also a small cabinet with a table top and drawers. As a result, in such a small apartment, all the necessary household premises are formed (living room, bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, kitchen, dining room and study), but at the same time common boundaries moved apart due to the disappearance of the partitions.

The next possible option is the "Apartment for three" project. In this project, the large room also connects to the hallway, but the wardrobe does not carry over to the bedroom. The kitchen is separated from the room by a sliding partition, and the refrigerator and electric stove slide into a niche. The partition between the rooms is shifted by 12-16 cm towards a slight decrease in the size of the bedroom. Illustrative confirmation of such options can also be found.

The third possible option is the formation of isolated rooms. This option is needed to create two separate bedrooms. In this case, a small corridor is created between the rooms, where another thin partition with a door is installed. The lengthened part of the hallway is suitable for a new dressing room. Thus, the area of the hallway increases. The resulting rooms, of course, have a small area, but they are isolated from each other. The resulting nook between the rooms can be turned into a small storage room.

What is not allowed during reconstruction

Redevelopment of a small apartment allows you to provide the necessary design and equip the premises as needed. However, when carrying out work, the following prohibitions should be taken into account:

  • it is impossible to remove and violate the integrity of the load-bearing walls and supporting elements - such work is carried out only according to a special project;
  • the ventilation system should not be damaged;
  • it is strictly forbidden to close access to the gas stove or stove, as well as to carry it on your own;
  • it is not recommended to change the installation location of the toilet.

A two-room apartment in Khrushchev, of course, does not suit for its dimensions, but it can also be reconstructed in it, which will allow creating modern design... Such an apartment can be expanded visually, creating a favorable effect without restructuring, but it is possible to achieve an increase in living space if redevelopment is carried out.

I like

The main problem of the old Khrushchev is the small area of the rooms, low ceilings, a combined bathroom and a cramped corridor. In order to functionally and harmoniously organize the space in such a small apartment, you should carefully consider all the details to the smallest detail. It is important to remember that the magical transformation of an old interior into a modern home, in addition to material, will require a lot of time. The desire to make redevelopment is faced with the need to coordinate future changes in the respective organizations. For old buildings, such a process is often undesirable and even dangerous. It is advisable to use the advice of designers and arrange the existing interior in a certain style direction without demolishing partitions.

Correct selection of furniture for the interior

When choosing furniture for Khrushchev, you should focus on several basic criteria:

  • Use of modular designs;
  • The absence of an excessive amount of decorative elements;
  • The predominance of lightweight parts in the form of glass or mirror inserts;
  • Installation of compact corner furniture;
  • The use of hanging options for furniture items.

For small spaces, multifunctional furniture sets in the form of transformers are considered the most optimal and comfortable, which allow you to avoid the feeling of crampedness.

The subtleties of the design of a small apartment

Decorating in rooms with a small area should visually expand the space. In the arsenal of design techniques, there are various options for ideas that allow you to solve this problem:

  • Contrast of a snow-white ceiling with a slight gloss and a dark floor;
  • Allocation of a separate functional area, for example, a working corner in the living room, a low podium;
  • Use as a border between zones different options flooring;
  • Painting all walls in an apartment in one color, choosing pastel light shades of varying degrees of saturation;
  • Decorating the perimeter of the wall under the ceiling with a mirrored border;
  • Application as accent bright spots of small paintings in laconic frames with local illumination, decorative pillows, souvenirs;
  • Pasting picturesque photo wallpaper with perspective.

Interesting to know! The visual expansion of the space is facilitated by giving one of the walls a contrasting sound against the general light background of the other surfaces.

A plasterboard partition is a great way to divide a space into two functional areas.

The elegant interior of the apartment in light colors is the most advantageous option for a small room

A mirror or wardrobe with a mirrored facade will help to visually increase the area of the corridor or. You can use this technique in other small rooms, such as or.

Artificially aged furniture - is the hallmark of the Provence style

Minimalism

Can be made tensioned with recessed luminaires. For the floor, laminate, cork, parquet board or plain carpet with low pile are used.

In the role of decorative elements, they are used that have an interesting shape and color. Furniture is chosen simple, but stylish, with a clear geometric shape and right angles. Glass, metal, genuine leather upholstery fits well into the design of the Khrushchev.

Minimalism style is an ideal order, it does not accept space congestion and excessive decor, so it is better to use closed cabinets in the kitchen

Art Deco

  • Elements of the style direction allow you to get a modern refined interior in a small Khrushchev Art Deco... For the background, emerald, sapphire or red are used, with which shades of gray, black, blue and gold are well combined.

A single exclusive item, which is located in the most prominent place, acts as a bright accent. High quality and expensive materials are used for decoration. Semiprecious stones, natural crocodile or snake skin, exotic plants, fine porcelain, and ethnic figurines are welcome.

The combination of a large number of different elements is a characteristic feature of the eclectic art deco style

Classic

Ideas for wall decoration are most often limited to monochromatic painting in a restrained color. The flooring is parquet or stone imitation.

Window openings are framed with expensive thin textiles. Such a solution creates not only a cozy atmosphere, but also presupposes the maintenance of strict order in it.

Solid wood furniture - a visiting card of an interior in a classic style

Modern

  • Modern Art Nouveau with flowing shapes and floral patterns on furniture facades with a general soft color scheme involves the installation of light modular headsets.

For the living room, a good addition to the wardrobes will serve soft furniture, which has rounded shapes and graceful legs. A coffee table with a glass top will organically fit next to it.

Interior design in the Art Nouveau style is harmony and nobility in everything. This style is characterized by:

  1. Smooth lines and curves;
  2. Abundance of wood in combination with others natural materials calm, natural shades;
  3. Artificial lighting in warm colors;
  4. Stained-glass windows, large mirrors in a wide frame;
  5. Decorative items with live plants.

Romanticism

  • Dreamy natures will be able to bring to the apartment the sound of a romantic style with pastel shades, floral ornaments, cozy soft textiles, lace and carved openwork elements.

Good to know! At the same time, it is important not to overload the interior of a small Khrushchev. To do this, select several basic design elements characteristic of this style. It can be elegant stucco molding on the ceiling, elegant wallpaper on the walls, velvety furnishings or pink lampshades on table lamps and floor lamps.

Pink is the perfect companion for creating a romantic setting in the interior.

Conclusion from read

There are many options for the design transformation of Khrushchev into stylish modern housing. Most often, there is a free eclecticism that allows you to combine elements of various styles into a single chord. The unifying moment can be their single concept or color performance.

It is important not only to choose the right style, but also to draw up an accurate plan for each room. This will not allow turning the apartment into a museum, but creating an amazing harmony and completeness of the interior.

Authors of the article

The times when apartments were handed out for free are irrevocably gone. And not so long ago, when the country began to recover after the war, in the era of large-panel housing construction, starting in 1955, they tried to provide housing, if not all, then many. Of course, these apartments, which are casually called "Khrushchevs" in the common people, are far from perfect: too thin and uneven walls, low ceilings, inconvenient layout, sound and thermal insulation is not up to the mark. But they built it quickly, and the Khrushchevs fulfilled their task in full.

In just 9 years, a quarter of the country's population has been provided with housing. And to this day, the Khrushchevs make up a significant part of the housing stock. They give way to new houses only in the central districts of the capital and other large cities, while in the provinces the Khrushchevs will stand for a long time. Their resource, which was previously 50 years old, was revised and increased to 150 years, subject to major overhauls. So it makes sense to think over the design of the Khrushchev and make overhaul certainly there is.

Yes, in Soviet times, such apartments were also welcome: let it be housing with only 1 room, and even that one is small, but it has its own. The norms of living space were calculated not for reasons of comfort, but taking into account only the necessary minimum for human physiology. Now, when needs have changed, the owners of the Khrushchev houses want to somehow transform their homes in order to achieve comfort and functionality.

The design options for Khrushchev are actually not so few, especially if they provide for redevelopment, for example, dividing one inconvenient room into 2 rooms that perform different tasks, or expanding narrow and small rooms due to walk-through zones. Some options are more successful, some less, but one thing is for sure, even an apartment of such a small area with low ceilings can become modern housing.

Redevelopment

Perhaps, interesting design in Khrushchev can be created only if competent redevelopment is performed. Apartments do not differ in large area, but their significant drawback is also that rooms are often narrow, uncomfortable, with a walk-through area, non-functional corridors. This problem can be eradicated only by resorting to redevelopment.

Khrushchev buildings were built according to designs of several standard series. They differ quite slightly from each other, but they have one thing in common - a small area:

  • One-room apartments - 29-33 m 2,
  • Two-room apartments - 30-46 m 2,
  • Three-room apartments - 55–58 m 2.

When drawing up a redevelopment project, it will be necessary to solve a number of problems. One of the problems will be associated with the legalization of redevelopment, since not every design "flight of fancy" can be implemented legally. First you need to get permission for redevelopment.

The first difficulty can arise with the definition of load-bearing walls. Fortunately, in almost all Khrushchev buildings, intra-apartment partitions do not perform a load-bearing function, but only divide the space of an apartment into rooms, so they can be easily demolished by making major repairs. However, there are also exceptions, in panel Khrushchev can be found and load-bearing walls inside the apartment. Just in case, I must say about how to determine the load-bearing wall in the apartment:

  • According to the plan of the apartment. You can get this kind of document at the BTI. You will be provided with a typical apartment plan with the designation of load-bearing walls and partitions.
  • Visually:
    • The load-bearing wall will be thicker than the partition. In Khrushchev, the thickness of the load-bearing wall will be at least 12 cm without finishing.
    • Floor slabs will always be supported by load-bearing walls.

If the wall is still load-bearing, then the opening will need to be strengthened with metal or wooden supports. Redevelopment, providing for the partial dismantling of the bearing wall, can be carried out only with the permission of the housing inspectorate, strictly observing the approved project.

Even if the bearing walls are not involved in the redevelopment, a number of problems may arise. For example, if the redevelopment is associated with the expansion of the "wet zone". According to the law, the bathroom and toilet can only be expanded by non-residential premises, i.e. corridor, kitchen or pantry. The only exception is for residents of the first floors, these restrictions do not apply there.

In Khrushchev houses, there is often a small, little functional corridor connecting the hallway and the kitchen, due to which it would be convenient to expand the bathroom. Here it is on the diagram:

In fact, this is a corridor, but on the plans this site is designated as a residential area, so it remains either to put up with this, or to act in two stages: first, separate this area with a partition and arrange the redevelopment of the living space into a corridor, then get permission for another redevelopment - expansion bathroom and to draw up documents in accordance with all the rules. Those. you will first have to draw up a redevelopment of this type:

By the way, increasing the bathroom due to the passage will require additional waterproofing.

If it is planned to combine the kitchen and living room in order to create a spacious living-dining area, then here you may encounter another limitation: the combination of living space with a kitchen in the presence of a gas stove is not allowed. There are two ways out: change the stove to an electric one, or put a light sliding partition (after the arrival of the commission, it can be dismantled).

It is worth thinking about solving a number of other issues, which are discussed below.

Warming... Since the insulation in the Khrushchevs is insufficient - in summer it is hot in them, in winter it is cold, the walls in corner apartments often freeze through - the thermal insulation of the walls should be strengthened. Moreover internal insulation in Khrushchev, it is not applicable, since the implementation of this method leads to a shift of the dew point inside the walls. As a result, the walls begin to collapse, especially the brick ones. Insulation available with sheathing external walls with polystyrene slabs or with lathing and mineral wool on the ground floors of the building.

Glazing replacement... It is advisable to replace old wooden windows with new plastic ones. Here you will have to face some difficulties. Firstly, in some Khrushchevs (panel houses) there are no window sills, and secondly, the window opening is likely to be uneven. If you contact a company with experience, then there will be no problems with installing a window, since the experience in replacing windows in Khrushchev has been gained. Some things to think about carefully:

  • how wide the window sill will be,
  • how to insulate a window.

Usually they try to make the window sill wider so that there is room for indoor plants. In Khrushchevs, where initially there were no window sills, this should be avoided. On the one hand, the support area for a wide window sill is insufficient, which means that the structure will be very unstable, on the other hand, a wide window sill will cause a violation of heat transfer. By the way, the plaster slopes must be completely dismantled.

Redevelopment ideas

So, the main problems of redevelopment and repair in Khrushchev are outlined. Now about the specific ideas for redevelopment.

One-room Khrushchev

It would seem that you can come up with a one-room Khrushchev as initial data? It turns out that it is possible to enlarge the bathroom and make a separate bedroom, at least to make the redevelopment more convenient is quite possible.

The typical layout of a one-room apartment in Khrushchev is a corridor leading to the kitchen and an "arch" to the living room. In some series, the "arch" was built up, and the passage to the room was located directly opposite the front door. Sometimes the project included a storage room. In the corner apartments, there was another window on the long wall of the living room.

Redevelopment option Redevelopment description

This is a redevelopment option, where the "arch" is built up and turns into an ordinary doorway, the functionality of the living room in this case increases, since along the wall that has increased in length, you can put, for example, a sofa. The door to the toilet is also transferred, due to the rounding of the space, the hallway becomes more spacious. Now a corner cabinet can be conveniently placed here. The kitchen remains unchanged.

Here you can see that all are completely demolished interior partitions, including the partitions of the bathroom. The space is completely rebuilt. The bathroom is expanded by a corridor, now there is enough space to install washing machine... The sink, by the way, is transferred to the opposite wall, which will require a sewer supply. The partition between the living room and the kitchen is dismantled, the wall between the bathroom and the kitchen is lengthened by building up the old doorway: you can place a full-fledged kitchen set. The disadvantage of redevelopment is that the area of the hallway is reduced, but it is now convenient to place a wardrobe in the living room, especially since there is a place for a hanger and shelves for shoes in the hallway.

Another option for transforming space through a passage. In this case, the orientation of the bathroom changes - it slightly increases in area, but the main emphasis is on increasing the area of the kitchen. It is partially combined with the living room due to a wide opening in which sliding partitions can be installed.

Here a lot of attention is paid to storage places, and there is also a place for a double bed, it is in no way separated from the living room area, but is located in a cozy nook. The kitchen is combined with the living room, a separate niche for the refrigerator is arranged. You can beat the kitchen, living room and sleeping areas using design. Pay attention to the bathroom. The entrance to it is transferred from the hallway to the passage, due to which the door is removed from narrow hallway... Replacing the bathtub with a shower stall allows you to relieve space and install a washing machine.

In this version, due to the transfer of the doorway to the kitchen, the bathroom has been expanded, or rather the bath area, part of the wall is beveled, resulting in a full-fledged doorway to the living room. The kitchen space is not substantially optimized.

Here the partition between the hallway and the living room has been demolished. There is a wardrobe on this place. Partly there is no partition between the living room and the kitchen. The bar counter acts as a space divider. By shifting the dining area from kitchen to living room, the kitchen has become much more spacious. The kitchen set in this version is located with the letter "G" and takes up not only long wall but also a wall with a window. Perhaps, it should be noted the lack of storage space and a small bathroom, which is not rebuilt, but instead of a bath, a shower and a washing machine are installed.

Even such a small apartment as a one-room Khrushchev can be made two-room if necessary. For example, in this plan you can see that a bed and a bedside table have been placed in the far corner of the living room. The bedroom area is separated by a partial partition to allow natural light as the bedroom has no window. The kitchen and dining area are united by a single table top. Zoning has been carried out using flooring. There is storage space both in the hallway and in the living room.

In corner Khrushchevs, where there are two windows in the room, there are more redevelopment options, more precisely, from one room you can make two full-fledged bright rooms with natural light. This plan shows that the partition between the kitchen and the living room has been demolished, but a new partition has been erected, which now divides the room into two parts. The result is a great apartment with separate rooms: a living-dining room and a bedroom. The redevelopment does not affect the bathroom area.

This redevelopment option is similar to the previous one, but the entrance to the bedroom is from the living room. But in the bedroom you can order a large wardrobe, which will solve the problem with storage space.

Two-room Khrushchev

The typical layout of a two-room Khrushchev gives more design possibilities, especially if all the walls in the apartment are not load-bearing.

In a typical two-room Khrushchev, you can significantly expand the bathroom through the passage, organize a spacious dining-living room. In addition, you can actually make a "three-ruble note" from a two-room apartment. There are three common typical layouts for kopeck houses in Khrushchevs, which were popularly called love names: "book", "tram", "mini-improved".

Redevelopment option Redevelopment description

The partition between the room and the living room is simply being demolished. The space of the former passage is now divided between three rooms: an entrance hall, a bathroom and a kitchen. In the hallway there is a wardrobe, in the bathroom there is a washing machine, in the kitchen there is a niche for a refrigerator. The doorway to the storeroom is built up. It turned into a dressing room with an entrance from the bedroom. The kitchen is combined with the living room.

A similar option. The difference is that in the hallway there is no niche for the wardrobe, and in the living room, opposite the front door, there is workplace... The entrance to the wardrobe is not from the bedroom, but from the living room, next to the workplace.

Here, the redevelopment mainly affected the kitchen and living room. The wall between the living room and the kitchen has been torn down and replaced with an island kitchen sink. The dining area is now in the living room: the dining table is adjacent to the sofa. Behind a sliding partition is a double bed, which has been fitted in by extending the wall between the hallway and the living room. From the bedroom area you can enter the spacious dressing room, hidden behind sliding door... The bedroom has become a nursery for two children.

The disadvantage of this redevelopment is immediately visible - it is too long and narrow corridor, but, nevertheless, this option has a right to exist. After all, it allows you to make separate rooms, expand the bathroom at the expense of the corridor, and allocate a storage area. Both the bedroom and the living-dining room are separated by partial partitions, which function as zoning space and highlight the recreation area.

In this version, a niche for a refrigerator and a wardrobe was made at the place of the passage. The partition between the kitchen and the living room is only partially removed, just to make a new entrance. The living room turned out to be dark, the light comes only thanks to transparent inserts in the partitions. But the new bedroom turned out to be very bright and with a balcony.

Such a redevelopment option is also possible. Part of the pantry and the bedroom become a common space with the living room, the partition between the living room and the hallway moves deeper into the room, the kitchen partition is dismantled. It turns out to be a very spacious living-dining room, a small bedroom and a full dressing room.

The kitchen and living room are not combined here, as in most of the previous options, but the bathroom also expands due to the passage. The partition in the bedroom divides the room into two bedrooms - one with a window, the other without it. The wall is made in a zigzag pattern to leave space in both rooms for deep built-in wardrobes.

This option is similar to the previous one. The bedroom is also being rebuilt in such a way that two separate rooms are obtained from it, but the bathroom is not rebuilt, a dressing room and a place for a built-in wardrobe in the hallway are now located in the aisle. The partition between the living room and the hallway is moved further - a comfortable workplace is organized.

An interesting option is a diagonal redevelopment, as, for example, seen on this plan. Thanks to this approach, it was possible to fit a corner bath into the bathroom, combine a washbasin and a washing machine under a common countertop. The kitchen is not expanding, but its design is changing significantly. First, the partition is demolished. The table is replaced by a bar counter. Secondly, the sink is transferred to the side of the wall with the window. The partition between the bedroom and the living room is moved to accommodate the built-in furniture. The highlight of the project is a dressing room, on the sides of which corner cabinets can be placed.

There is also a diagonal hallway. But the bedroom has been greatly expanded by the living room. In fact, it turns out a three-room apartment, but the living room is small and separated from the kitchen by a low partition.

A similar project, but the hallway is slightly larger. There is a niche for a wardrobe. The bathroom is enlarged.

Two-room Khrushchev on two sides. The rooms are adjacent. And the main task is to make them separate. The door to the bathroom is moved from the narrow hallway, and by reducing the living room area, it is possible to allocate space for a pantry or dressing room. The bedroom is divided by a through rack, thanks to which the illumination does not decrease significantly, but the space is zoned into the bedroom and the living room. Instead of the former living room, there is now a children's room.

Three room flat

In a three-room Khrushchev, redevelopment tasks are also reduced to solving the problem of adjacent rooms and their small area.

Typical layout three-room apartment assumes a small kitchen and a living room, from which the entrance to the bedroom is carried out, one bedroom is separate. This can be a book-type layout:

Or "tram" layout:

Redevelopment options Redevelopment description

This plan shows that the entrance to the bathroom has been moved and made at the junction of the walls, the partitions of the kitchen and hallway have been dismantled. The pantry has been converted into a walk-in closet and slightly enlarged with a walkway.

In this version, there is no partition between the living room and the living room. The bathroom is combined. The partition between the living room and the kitchen is partially removed, but it remains opposite the bathroom. The entrances to one of the bedrooms and the wardrobe are arranged in a semicircle.

A large and comfortable dressing room has been made here, the entrance to which is from the bedroom. In the living room there is a special rounded niche for the TV, which has become the central element. There is also a dining area in the living room.

Hallway design

The hallway in Khrushchev has several disadvantages:

  • diminutiveness;
  • long and narrow corridor;
  • inconvenient layout in the form of the letter "G".

To avoid a lack of space, the hallway can be expanded with a bathroom or living room, at least in order to install a wardrobe. The fact is that even narrow cabinet in such a hallway it will be inappropriate, because the situation is often aggravated by the bathroom door opening into the hallway. If it is not planned to enlarge the room, then you will have to go to various design tricks in order to prevent the feeling of a cluttered hallway.

Design techniques that will allow you to unload the interior as much as possible:

  • Minimalism of furniture... This applies not only to the design of furniture, but also to its quantity. The hallway should contain only the essentials. These are, for example, places for shoes and clothes. Moreover, you should avoid open hangers, as even a couple of sets of winter clothes on it will create a messy effect. Still, you must try to allocate space for the closet. This could be a small corner cabinet with a mirrored door. Nearby, you can hang a small shelf for small items that should be at hand. In general, corner structures and mirrors should be used in the Khrushchev hallway. It's just that it is not recommended to hang a mirror opposite the door according to Feng Shui.
  • Expand the space will help competent selection of interior colors... It is known that light colors visually make the interior more spacious. This is also true for the hallway. However, if you follow this advice, choose materials that can be washed. For example, for walls it can be paint, for floors, tiles or ceramic tiles. Avoid materials with a porous texture, it is easy to stain them in a cramped hallway, but it will be difficult to return to the previous look. Color accents will distract from the cramped hallway, but do not overdo it - there should not be many of them. As for the ceilings, they must certainly be light, no experiments with dark shades on the ceiling, otherwise the feeling of a very low ceiling will appear.
  • Lighting... Of course, the design of the corridor should provide for carefully thought out lighting. In a hallway, which is a priori devoid of a natural source of light, this is extremely important. The best option would be a tension glossy ceiling with spotlights. Their number should be sufficient. For example, luminaires are often placed along the entire ceiling along the center line or along the perimeter of the walls in two rows. Additional wall lights can be provided. The switch must be positioned so that it can be reached from the threshold. It is quite inconvenient when it is located in the center of the hallway. You have to cross part of the hallway in the dark in dirty shoes, coming from the street, just to turn on the light. By the way, if the corridor is long, then it is advisable to install a pass-through switch, with which you can control the lighting from different ends of the corridor.
  • Zoning... In a miniature hallway, zoning will probably be inappropriate, which cannot be said about a long corridor. Some designers advise dividing the space of such a corridor into two, maximum three zones using arches, you can also use color schemes.

Living room design

When developing a living room design, you will have to face the same problems as in the hallway: low ceilings, little light. In addition, the living room is often a walk-through, which is why a significant part of it cannot be fully used. Some of the problems are solved with the help of redevelopment, as mentioned above, some can be solved by using competent design ideas.

  • laconic design, no protruding decorative elements;
  • minimum amount of furniture,
  • neutral colors, it is possible to use contrasting colors to transform the perception of space, but a professional approach is required.

Most likely, you will have to order furniture according to your size, since it will be difficult to choose something from the ready-made one.

The most correct move would be to replace heavy curtains with light curtains that will allow natural light to enter the room as much as possible. Good artificial lighting should be provided in the evening. It can be all the same spotlights in combination with a glossy light stretch ceiling, plasterboard ceiling with niches that are well lit around the perimeter, or the so-called floating ceiling, realized with the use of LED backlighting.

Of course, you can make a separate bedroom in Khrushchev, but if you do not want to sacrifice free space for the sake of placing a double bed, which will stand as a "dead weight", you can choose transforming furniture as a solution. Now on sale there is not only a bed that transforms into a small sofa, you can purchase corner sofas in a complex with living rooms that turn into full beds at night.

As for the style, with a skillful approach, you can decorate the living room in almost any of the style directions, at least you can use individual style elements. For example, shabby chic and high-tech living rooms:

Bedroom design in Khrushchev

Bedrooms in layouts such as "book" and "tram" are narrow and long. In terms of area, they seem to be not so small, but this does not add functionality to them. If redevelopment is not carried out in the bedroom, then one should strive to bring the shape of the bedroom closer to the square with the help of furniture. This is easy to do if the layout is "book". You can make a spacious dressing room or a spacious wardrobe. With the "tram" it is more difficult, but there is also a way out. As you can see above, with the help of redevelopment, you can combine a living room and a bedroom in one room.

With regard to lighting, the choice of furniture and colors, then all the recommendations that were given for the living room and hallway are applicable for the bedroom. Separately, it should be said that in the design of the bedroom it is better to avoid the use of cold saturated shades in large quantities, however, bright contrasting shades in large quantities are also inappropriate here. The bedroom should be conducive to rest and peace. Use in the bedroom Decoration Materials and textiles of predominantly pastel light shades, combining colors. You can even choose white as the main color, creating something in the Scandinavian style.

There are specially designed color schemes for interior design that can be successfully used when choosing the color of furniture, finishes and accessories.

Avoid intricate decorative elements with elaborate curved lines. If there is very little space, limit yourself to one bed. A mirror will be functional in the bedroom, especially if there is a place for a small dressing table and a dressing room will be located nearby. A chandelier is often hung in the bedroom. It's better to give up on it and limit yourself to spot lighting, but if you really want to, then choose flat models.

Kitchen in Khrushchev

There is too little space in the kitchen in the Khrushchev, literally you can't turn around. It is necessary either to do redevelopment, or try to transform the space so that it becomes functional and comfortable.

The main move is custom-made furniture. An insignificant moment, but two or three centimeters here and there, sometimes, decide "the outcome of the battle." Carefully thought out the placement kitchen set, or rather all sections, drawers and household appliances, you can literally implement a renovation in the kitchen of the Khrushchev. Built-in appliances will do a good job: microwave oven, oven, hob, dishwasher, which can be small. Even refrigerators can now be purchased built-in under the countertop: it seemed - a cabinet; but no, you open it - the refrigerator.

It has now become fashionable to move the kitchen sink to the window, thanks to which a tall refrigerator can be placed in the corner. We'll have to tinker with the sewerage, but the solution is worthwhile.

You don't have to carry the sink if you don't see the need for this, but simply use the window sill as a table top. Some connect the work area and the bar counter with a single tabletop, which makes the interior more solid.

As for textiles, choose short, light curtains for the kitchen, or even better. horizontal blinds, located directly on the sashes of plastic windows - very convenient.

Sewer and gas pipes are not very conveniently located in the Khrushchevs in the kitchen. Gas pipes, if desired, can be moved by contacting the appropriate authorities. Or you can disguise them with furniture or a plastic box, or assemble a drywall box.

We hope that our advice will help you independently develop the redevelopment and design of your beloved and dear Khrushchev. And finally, we suggest looking at another selection of photographs of the design of the Khrushchevs.

All household members are in one room, so the finishing materials must be of high quality and durable. Having saved on coverage, you may be disappointed in it after a few months. When choosing materials, stick to light colors and unobtrusive patterns.

Light wall decoration is a simple and time-tested design technique that helps to visually increase the space

  • Floor. It is better to lay in the kitchen and bathroom tile, it is easy to clean and won't scratch. Choose tiles with a non-slip surface to avoid injury. In the living room, light wood parquet or linoleum stylized as wood will look perfect.

To make the room appear visually larger, the walls should be much lighter than the floor and slightly darker than the ceiling.

Lighting of a studio apartment

A small apartment of thirty meters requires the right choice of lighting fixtures. The chandelier in the living room should not be low, choose a model of a high chandelier as close to the ceiling as possible, preferably made of glass without hanging paraphernalia. Be sure to add additional light sources to the room - a floor lamp installed next to the sofa and coffee table looks good in such an interior. And a couple of sconces at the head of the bed.

Mirrored surfaces reflect the sun's rays and make the room much brighter

In the kitchen, it is better to hang a small frosted glass shade that will suit any style. And in the working area, install several LED lamps. The dining area also needs to be equipped with separate lighting, which will create a cozy and relaxed atmosphere in the kitchen for a dinner for two or with friends.

For general lighting of the kitchen, use a ceiling chandelier, for backlighting an apron - overhead or built-in lamps

In the bathroom and hallway, add LED strip along the perimeter of mirrors and furniture to the ceiling lamp - this will refresh the room and add coziness. It is better to choose lamps with a warm spectrum, which will fill your home with warmth and perfectly set off the light finish.

How to arrange furniture correctly

Furnish one-room apartment not an easy task. The main thing is that all family members feel comfortable and it is desirable to allocate a small favorite corner for everyone.

A corner sofa bed during the day will serve as a key place in the interior of the living room, and at night it will turn into a comfortable bed

A few rules to help you organize your living space:

Storage systems can be placed in any available space. For example, shelves under the very ceiling will accommodate a collection of books and serve as an interior decoration.

In a small apartment, stick to the minimalist rule. Compact and functional furniture and light colors in the decor. And not only family members, but also guests will feel comfortable in your home.
