Making furniture in the loft style, how to do it yourself. Loft-style furniture - interior design and examples of the use of stylish combinations (125 photos) How to make a loft-style table yourself

Having bought a one-room studio apartment in a new building, a resident of Minsk named Andrei could not resist the temptation to create an interior in the now fashionable loft style. The crisis made adjustments to his plans: he had to abandon the services of professionals, look for places where building materials are cheaper, and even make furniture and lamps with his own hands. The eyes were afraid, but the hands did. It turned out stylish and unusual, but managed to save about $ 7.5 thousand in equivalent ...

A couple of years ago I bought a "odnushka" at the construction stage. The deadline for putting the house into operation was postponed by as much as a year and a half, which, however, did not upset me much, since with the onset of the next crisis, it became even more difficult to earn money to finish the apartment. But, having on hand the layout and some experience in design, I began to design the interior and, at the same time, earn on the budget of the upcoming event.

Divided the corridor - it turned out to be a bedroom

I can't remember how, but I wanted to make a loft-style apartment. I studied photos of interiors on design websites for a long time. I noticed for myself what I like and what I don't. The loft offers a large space, high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. Unfortunately, high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows are not about my new building. And there is not much room in the "odnushka". To compensate for these shortcomings, elements of the Scandinavian style had to be added - for example, a lot of white, which expands the space.

One interesting desire was the ability to have a separate bedroom in one-room apartment... Initially I thought of fencing off the bed with glass partitions, but this sleeping place still eats up a lot of space. The exit was found unexpectedly. The area of the corridor in the apartment was comparable to a separate room. Competently dividing it, we managed to get a separate small room for a bedroom and a still fairly spacious corridor. Since I am an engineer by training, I started drawing 2D and then 3D interior design projects. Ultimately, the project began to look like this:

Of course, this project is in progress. finishing works has undergone some changes. But I already roughly understood what I needed, and began to think about where to get it and what to save on.

Looking ahead, I will say that I bought all materials, tools and so on from importers or manufacturers and, as a rule, even on wholesale prices... When you compare this to the prices in the market, your hair stands on end. Some sellers have mark-ups of up to 300%! I, of course, understand that everyone wants to eat, but this is already arrogance. In some markets, it seemed to me that we have no competition at all. If there are 5-10 points of sale, for example, Armatura faucets, then all these stores belong to one owner. Accordingly, he sets the price he wants.

Only on some materials, bought not in the first place I came across, I managed to save about $ 2.5 thousand in equivalent. Of course, these savings were worth the time and effort. But the result was pleasing.

When the apartment was completed, it was possible to start finishing. Initially, I did not plan to do anything myself. I think everyone should do their own thing. If you are a builder, you have to build, if you are a travel agent - organize rest for people. But the situation in a crisis is such that the builder begins to think: "I'll buy the tickets myself and go to rest as a savage." As a result, the travel agent, having not received earnings, thinks about how to make the repairs on his own. Such a vicious circle turns out.

Hire craftsmen - multiply all estimates by two?

Having made an estimate of the work and having estimated that the money earned during the completion of the construction of the house should be enough, I proceeded to the finishing with the involvement of builders. I started, of course, with the layout of the plumbing and the bathroom as a whole. Upon completion of these works, I realized that all estimates can be safely multiplied by at least two. In practice, builders will find something to do with themselves and for which to take more money. Moreover, in my case, it happened after the work was done. From that moment I realized that no one would do better than myself (both financially and in terms of quality). Fortunately, I was able to afford to take a vacation for two months.

The electrical wiring was helped by friends who are associated with electrical work. I wanted to think over everything thoroughly, so that there would be enough outlets when different options the arrangement of furniture, and about the light at the design stage, I had a lot of ideas. As a result, I got more than 60 points, which is a lot for a "odnushka". A mistake can be called the fact that I decided to partially leave the native wiring. It turned out to be unprofitable in terms of time and effort. The cables in the wall were cut several times, since a completely different location was indicated on the diagrams received from the developer.

The savings in electrician work were approximately $ 500 at market average prices.

The next step was wall decoration. According to the project, all walls from floor to ceiling were to be laid out decorative stone under the natural brick. Analysis of prices in the service market determined the average cost of brick laying work at $ 20 per meter. A significant expense item, since the area of the walls is 90 "squares".

All the craftsmen described this work as extremely difficult due to the jointing. As it turned out later, this is not true. I did not rush right off the bat: the stone was too expensive to screw everything up. He invited familiar builders, and they laid the first batch of stone. And I watched them and studied the technology. It looks nothing complicated. In the future, I decided to continue laying on my own. I want to note that earlier construction works I didn’t study, except that I was making something from wood. Having bought the missing tool (a mixer attachment and a pair of spatulas), he set to work. At first, the eyes were afraid, but the hands did.

I paid $ 70 for all the components for this chandelier. Many acquaintances looked and said that they would do this with ease. In response, I just smiled. Now I already have experience, but during the manufacturing process I did not know how to implement some points, I was looking for solutions. Yes, and I hung it up, I remember, until five in the morning. I fixed it, she worked for 15 minutes and began to shorten. Then for two days I figured out what was the matter. I didn’t whitewash separately, but as soon as I put the three segments together, I started. Until I completely rebuilt it, it did not work.

In the dining area, I made a chandelier in a more loft style: metal frame, wood, metal grid, linen sacking. The chandelier was suspended on a metal cable with height adjustment. It installed four conventional LED bulbs. I have not even seen such chandeliers on sale, so I find it difficult to say how much it can cost. The components cost about $ 17.

In the 40s of the twentieth century, the industrial style of decorating your home became very popular in the United States. It gained popularity due to the lack of affordable low-cost housing for ordinary people. Premises that were not originally intended for living were used for the arrangement - attics, attics, abandoned premises of factories and warehouses. The premises settled down on hastily, therefore, they were left in their original form, only slightly making them fit for life. This is how a new loft style was formed.

The originality of the loft style is that the space, reminiscent of an industrial, is at the same time modern and comfortable

Soon, creative personalities began to design their houses and apartments in this style - artists, actors, owners of spacious country houses... The loft has existed for over 60 years. It has no territorial and temporal boundaries, because the originality, uniqueness of interiors in this style fits perfectly into life positions creative people, free in spirit.

The urban loft style in the interior arose as a direction that combines the features of the underground and bohemian

This direction allows you to equip your living space so that it becomes possible to embody the most daring ideas, go beyond what is permitted, and stand out with your individuality. There are many people striving for everything unusual not only in America, but also in Russia. a large number of followers.

Mid-century industrial loft-style interior - housing for the poor

Line up correct interior in the loft style, the introduction of the main elements will help.

  • Open space without partitions. Only the bathroom and toilet are fenced off. Even the bedroom is organized on a common area.
  • Huge floor-length windows are the main source of daylight. As a rule, windows are not covered with curtains.
  • Massive beams under the ceiling, open ventilation pipes, iron fittings.
  • The walls are not decorated with wallpaper and decorative plaster... Leave or imitate brickwork, concrete walls... The decoration contains wooden elements, sheets of plywood and aged metal.
  • The floors are most often left concrete, replaced with old wooden boards. Option of marble slabs is possible.

Modern loft-style accommodation

The loft is popular for its versatility

Within the framework of the style, three main directions were formed.

  1. Bohemian. It is preferred by “creators”. Artists and theatergoers, hold fashion shows, theatrical shows, place art galleries. In personal interiors, it is used more and more often.

    Bohemian Loft for interior decoration

Loft boho assumes the maximum preservation of the theme of the industrial premises in the decoration, but the furnishings are made in a colorful style

  2. Glamorous. Differs from others more gentle color palette... Heavy iron beams and brickwork walls mix with graceful chandeliers and Baroque furnishings.

Loft glamor - the usual stone-wood and pastel colors are diluted with a bold combination of gray and lilac, pink and turquoise

A glamorous loft provides an emphasis on lighting

  3. Industrial. Most popular. To embody this direction, the space is filled with elements reminiscent of a workshop, warehouse with the effect of a not quite inhabited space. Here it would be appropriate to make loft-style furniture with your own hands, ventilation forks, external wiring, chains, a combination of rough wood, aged iron and raw stone. Everything is simple, without unnecessary embellishment.

Industrial loft - housing is diluted with elements of factory equipment

For an industrial loft, simple furniture with the correct geometry without unnecessary elements is suitable

  • Spacious common space without partitions, with high ceilings, visually divided into zones. It must definitely retain the characteristic features of a large factory building without traces of fresh finishing.
  • The walls are decorated with original paintings, canvases by unknown modernist and expressionist artists, unusual posters, photographs.
  • Designer pieces of furniture, sculptures, musical instruments... Choose vintage furniture or artificially aged furniture with signs of wear. Most of the elements can be made with your own hands from scrap materials. Will go wooden pallets, antique boards, pipes and metal elements - parts of beds, spinning wheels, Sewing machines, wire spools and even barrels.

Distinguishing the space: how to highlight accents?

The white loft in the interior is quite original - pastel colors soften the excessive expressiveness of the situation, and it acquires lightness and airiness

As mentioned above, characteristic feature industrial style is a spacious, unified space, divided into zones. With the help of pieces of furniture, light screens, carpets on the floor, we define borders.

A beautiful bar counter with a worktop made of a single piece of wood or stone will help to separate the kitchen from the dining room. An open shelving unit will visually hide the bedroom from the living room. The loft is attractive because it combines old and new, luxury with the unsightly unplastered walls.

Loft style implies the use of furniture not only for its intended purpose, but also for separating one functional area from another

Furniture in this design plays an important role. With its help, accents are placed. When playing with style, you don't have to rush to buy designer furnishings. You can make them with your own hands, because the essence of it lies in the fact that the furnishings must first of all be functional, and only then beautiful.

Assemble the shape of the sofa, treat the surface with sandpaper, sew soft pillows and a mattress. Lay on the frame, and make shelves for books and magazines in the armrests. It will come out inexpensively and effectively.

Pallets are also useful for making beds. Three pallets for the bed standard sizes will be sufficient. It will be easy to do it following certain recommendations. This is done in several stages:

There is one more interesting option- podium bed. You can embed in it additional seats storage. It is made of plywood or boards, painted or varnished.

Shelving and coffee table: quick and cheap to make!

Shelves and open shelves made by your own hands will perfectly "fit" into the interior. The metal thin frame of the rack, painted in black, looks beautiful. It is this color that makes it almost invisible. The shelves are made of solid pine, oak. To emphasize the structure of the wood, treat the shelves with a tinting compound. They fill the shelves with books, photo frames, vases and designer accessories.

Assembling the frame of the table

Loft-style furniture in stores is expensive. The price of a rectangular coffee table for metal frame high.

The loft and style in the interior of the same name appeared in the USA in the middle of the last century. Old, decommissioned factories and warehouses are beginning to settle down with enterprising creative people, artists, photographers and other freedom-loving personalities.

The difference between loft rooms can be called huge ceilings, large windows that give maximum light, freedom of planning the interior space and the spirit of industrialism.

To fully feel the spirit of this style, you need to add loft-style decor to the space. Since these things can be called rude, sometimes brutal and unsightly, it is quite possible to do them with your own hands at home.

Loft style furniture

The pieces of furniture that can be seen in loft-style interiors are often quite clumsy. Such furniture can be made independently from ordinary wooden pallets.

Pallets are used not only for creating country furniture, such items will fit well into an industrial loft-style interior.

Almost any piece of furniture can be made from wooden pallets:

  • bed
  • sofa
  • shelves
  • racks

First of all, process the surface of the pallet from burrs and chipping, you can use an orbital sander or sand it by hand. Then, it is better to treat the wood surface for protection with stain, paint or varnish so that the furniture will last longer.

There are many interior design styles. Sometimes, to implement an idea, many things are redone, and sometimes they are just thrown away. To make their plans come true, people are ready to sacrifice the most expensive items of the former interior. Today we will talk about a very interesting style- Loft. It is quite possible to make furniture in the Loft style with your own hands. For such a design, many available materials that can be found in every house are suitable - pipes, boards. Such quite affordable things and finishing do not require a lot of money, time and effort. As for the decor, lighting and furniture, then investments are needed. Believe me, these costs are worth such a gorgeous result. Let's start our acquaintance with this style to find out, for example, how to make a Loft sofa with your own hands, and more.

Features of the Loft style

This style appeared in the 40s. He was reborn in New York, or more precisely, in Manhattan. The reason for his birth was the lack of affordable housing. That is why many people tried to arrange affordable dwellings with their own hands. We used absolutely different materials... As a result, quite cozy and comfortable rooms with minimal investment... If we take the current time, then to the above, you can add beautiful furniture and original lighting that will become a highlight in your luxury apartment.

Differences between the Loft style and other design designs:

  • The main feature of the Loft is its industrial orientation, the use of unusual materials and decorative elements.
  • To implement this style, metal or chrome pipes, beams, rough brickwork or concrete are used. All these elements do not purposefully mask, but, on the contrary, open up as much as possible.
  • The wall cladding is rough and not at all well-groomed. In this case, you can safely use textured plaster or putty to give the visual impression that you have not worked on the wall at all. To achieve this effect, many people buy quite expensive and very high quality finishing materials.
  • Two design ideas can easily coexist in a room - antique and modern items, furniture and accessories. For example, a stylish sofa bright color fits perfectly into a room where an antique coffee table or cabinet with glass inserts is located.
  • The use of damaged, scratched or worn furniture is very appropriate when decorating a room in the Loft style. Some people deliberately create such defects in order to recreate all the beauty and richness of their creative idea.
  • The most popular materials for Loft-style furniture are plastic, wood, textiles and leather. All interior items made from the above raw materials are large enough and sometimes very heavy. For example, the wider the vertical metal tube, countertop, seating area and closet shelves, the more the Loft style will be recreated.
  • An obligatory element of such design solution is the presence of various casters. They are present on shelves, on tables, even on dressers. It is advisable to use wheels in almost all possible places. It is these strange elements that are inherent in the Loft style, where furniture at one time should be in a minimum amount, and at another - be modern and multifunctional. To achieve such a perfect combination, it is better to entrust this difficult task to professionals.

Important! But you can try to make a unique filling for a unique interior yourself. We hope that our master class "" will help you cope with this difficult task.

  • The ceiling surface, like the walls, is made in a rather sloppy design, decorating it with dark shades (black, brown, gray). The ceiling is treated roughly, with visible defects, chips, bubbles and various inclusions. Bulky metal pipes and other imitating structures can be added throughout the ceiling to further enhance the impression of the uniqueness of the interior.
  • To decorate the floors in the Loft style, tiles are used under a stone, laminate or porcelain stoneware in order to maximize the structure of a wooden board. Materials are very popular that can create the appearance of an untreated concrete floor. This includes the so-called self-leveling floors, which must be matte for this style. Sometimes as floor covering put linoleum and other cladding options.
  • All items in the room should be placed on maximum distance apart. One of the conditions for the Loft design is the maximum free space.
  • This style can be complemented by original bright lamps on a long metal wire.
  • To highlight the kitchen area, it is appropriate to place a bar counter made of shaped pipes.

Important! Despite all the inaccuracy, democratic and unusual style, the most due attention is paid to accessories and decor details. The presence of black and white paintings, prints on the walls, photo collages, vases and other decorative elements are integral and very important components of the Loft style.

DIY Loft-style table

Wooden furniture in this style can be made from almost any material - unnecessary boards or any old table or chest of drawers. Today we will look at several detailed master classes on making a coffee table.

The first way

For work we need the following materials and tools:

  • Wooden circle for the top and bottom of the table - 2 pcs.
  • Wooden spool or large barrel.
  • Saw or circular.
  • Metal wheels.
  • Coarse sandpaper.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Schurovert.
  • Screwdriver.

Getting started:

  1. We make two wooden circles from the boards (the diameter is at your discretion). We put the boards close to each other and with the help of a circular cut them to the size we need, thereby creating the cover of our future table. We do the same manipulations with the second exactly the same part (for the lower stop).
  2. We connect the boards to each other using small strips (the quantity is optional).
  3. Using a screwdriver, we screw 4 wheels to the bottom of the previously prepared round wooden cover.
  4. Grind the cylindrical coil with coarse-grained emery paper. This part will serve as a support for our coffee table.
  5. We fasten the upper part of the lid to the base with self-tapping screws.

That's all the work! The lower part of such a table can serve as a stand for books.

Important! Interior decoration is a delicate matter. When designing your living space, you want to fill it with not only functional, but beautiful and unusual pieces of furniture. Therefore, having decided to make something unique for your home, start embodying ideas after reading our selection.

Second way

Let's consider another manufacturing option wooden table in the Loft style. Anyone can make it, the main thing is to pick up everything you need for work, namely:

  • Construction pallets.
  • Patina.
  • Wheels.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Finest grit sandpaper.

Step-by-step algorithm of actions:

  1. We disassemble a wooden pallet.
  2. We take out all the available nails from it.
  3. We connect two boxes with self-tapping screws.
  4. With small wooden planks close up the cracks.
  5. We cover the surface of the pallets with acrylic varnish. It is advisable to apply 1-2 coats of the make coat. Otherwise, the varnish will flow, which will entail ugly drips.
  6. Apply patina to the wheels to achieve the effect of “aging”.
  7. We rub them with fine-grained sandpaper.
  8. We fasten the wheels at the four corners of the pallet.
  9. The new table is ready to fulfill its intended purpose. So we got two items in one - a table and shelves in the Loft style with our own hands. In such large and convenient recesses, you can store not only magazines, but also necessary things.

Important! Loft-style furniture can be decorated a little by pre-sanding it and painting it in White color without using painting and patterns.

Do-it-yourself Loft-style bed

This method is very similar to the previous one in the order of assembling pallets, but it has its own differences and an additional item - a mattress. Yes, it didn't seem to you, you can make a bed yourself from this completely available material... Having decorated it, you will get not only a comfortable sleeping place, but also very practical furniture.

Important! In order for the bed to become not just a place to sleep, but also, in a way, a point of comfort, inspiration and relaxation, it is necessary to choose the right accessories for it. Therefore, before buying or manufacturing your nest, check out our materials from our blogs:

What you need to work:

  • Wooden pallets 6-12 pieces.
  • Sander.
  • Screwdriver or drill.
  • Hammer.
  • Hacksaw or electric jigsaw.
  • Self-tapping screws or nails.
  • Dye.
  • Brushes of different widths.
  • Brush with soft bristles.
  • Roulette.
  • Pencil.
  • Orthopedic mattress of a suitable size.

There is nothing difficult in the manufacture of such furniture - each master has his own personal secrets that will make such a product unique and inimitable. But since the pallets are technical material, then when making furniture, you must adhere to a few simple rules:

  1. They need to be sanded well so as not to leave any wood knots. For our case, this is extremely important, since the quality of processing wooden surface the convenience of our location during rest and sleep depends.
  2. We deal with natural wood, therefore, it is better to treat the surface of the pallets with a special anti-fungal impregnation. So we will protect the bed from all kinds of pests that will harm not only the material, but also its direct user.

Important! The optimal size of a double pallet sofa is considered to be 240 by 240 cm.This parameter determines the format of the pallets themselves, which are three pallets in two dense rows.

Do-it-yourself step-by-step process for making a Loft-style bed:

  1. We prepare our pallets. Their number may be different - it all depends on the height of the desired bed. Therefore, the higher the berth, the more pallets will be required. Using a soft brush, we clean them of debris.
  2. We grind and treat the entire surface of wooden pallets with an antiseptic, including corners and hard-to-reach places.
  3. We paint each pallet separately (the choice of color is optional).
  4. After the pallet is completely dry, we cover it with varnish. We are waiting for the coating to dry again.
  5. We lay on the floor first one pallet, then the second, fixing them together with self-tapping screws. We do the same with the second row of the bed.
  6. To make a headboard for our sleeping place, place two pallets vertically at the top of the bed.
  7. We put the mattress on top of homemade furniture and enjoy the result of the work done.

Important! If you want to make a durable Loft sofa with your own hands, then it is advisable to use only new wooden pallets, and not those that have transported various materials and equipment for many years.

Other furniture options in the Loft style

We've covered ways to make a Loft-style wooden table and bed, but that's not the whole list. If you add a profile pipe to the pallets, then you can do a lot more garden furniture do it yourself. This will be a great start for a beginner who has decided to become familiar with welding. There is nothing complicated in the work, the main thing is that the pipes just need to be fixed with the base material. For Loft-style furniture, profile pipes serve as a support. They replace the legs of a chair, bench and so on. In a word, such material will be very useful when working on the creation of an interior in the Loft style.

The list of furniture, the design of which includes a profile pipe:

  • Shop.
  • Armchair.
  • Chair.
  • Cupboard.
  • Bar counter.
  • Sofa.

It often happens that the "skeleton" of the structure is assembled from the profile pipes, and then additional soft furniture elements are added. For example, a do-it-yourself Loft-style rack is assembled according to exactly the same pattern. These include wooden chair: first, the furniture frame is made from together welded shaped pipes, and at the end of the work, the seat is put.

Important! Furniture from shaped pipe very reliable and durable due to the high strength of the material itself. Therefore, if you decide to start making furniture on your own, then pay special attention to this multifunctional item... Moreover, we will be happy to tell you how to make "".

Chair Assembly Description

  1. From the part of the top of the base, cut all 4 corners at 45 degrees, as shown in the figure below.
  2. Mark both structural elements of the crosspiece. Using the marks, use the circular saw to make the center grooves to a depth of 0.75 ″ (1.9 cm). When connecting (only with glue), the parts should be flush.
  3. Assemble the base of the chair. Prepare the pocket holes first. Then make connections with glue and screws.
  4. Attach the outer footrest parts with screws on the outside. You only need one screw for each connection. Secure them with glue.
  5. Place a large screw rod to the center of the metal plate (by welding) to hold the seat. If you have no experience with such work and equipment, contact a workshop.
  6. Mark the middle of the back of the seat. Then attach the 4 large screws and the metal plate to the wood glue.
  7. Using a special bit, drill a screw hole in the cross and the same one on the top of the base. Check if the screw rod can fit into them.
  8. Fill the screw holes with putty. Let the composition dry.
  9. Using sandpaper, lightly sand the surface of the structure.
  10. Cover the garment with a stain. Leave to dry completely.
  11. To make the chair last longer and have a finished look, apply 1-2 coats of varnish to the wood.

Now you can arrange your own loft corner on the balcony, kitchen, living area, etc.
