Plastic panels

If there will be carved furniture in the room, and a crystal chandelier will take its rightful place under the ceiling, then the doorways here must be decorated with stucco molding. It is easy to install, weighs little, but does not like moisture, therefore it is rarely used in kitchen design.

Facing with decorative stone or tiles

For decoration, they are often used tile and decorative stone. The latter are often finished with openings in rooms in eco-style. To make the interior complete, you can lay out an apron, a countertop with the same material and close them with a durable glass sheet.

Doorways can be tiled with medium-sized tiles or fine mosaics. Choice ceramic tiles huge. It will take longer to install than plastic panels, but it will be worth it. The tile retains its original appearance for up to 50 years, is not afraid of moisture and temperature changes.

It is customary to decorate arched openings in Provence and Italian styles with artificial or clinker bricks. If you choose the right decor and furniture, then an ordinary kitchen and corridor can become like a cozy European courtyard. You can play around with this idea in different ways. So, for example, in the walls you need to make arched niches, also decorate them with bricks and stick a photo of Prague or Rome in light brown inside. For the joints, it is better to use a contrasting grout - with it, the clinker wall turns out to be very similar to a real brick one.

Wood paneling

To decorate doorways, you can use wood and wood-like materials:

The purchase of solid wood will cost the most, but it will also look more beautiful than other materials. Wood for openings in classic interiors is selected with a complex carved pattern, in color to match the furniture and floor. But veneer is more popular - it bends easily, looks natural and costs several times cheaper than wood. Laminate, MDF and laminated chipboard come in different shades - from bleached oak to mahogany - and are suitable for decorating openings in different rooms... Doorway decor

Door arches not only expand and give them an original shape, but also decorate. It is important not to overdo it and choose a decor that will be in harmony with other interior items. The decorated arch seems to be more massive, therefore, in rooms of a small area, openings are made minimal.

Arches, semi-arches and portals can be decorated:

textiles;
moldings.

The opening with curtains or painting becomes an important part of the interior and attracts additional attention. If you want the passage between the rooms to be invisible, it is better not to decorate it.

Columns

You can decorate the portal in the spacious, luxurious living room with white columns. So that they do not stand out, but look organic, the walls and ceiling should be decorated with voluminous stucco molding. Columns are definitely not suitable for a loft, minimalism or Scandinavian style. They will look good in rooms decorated with artificial marble, Venetian plaster.

With openings decorated with columns, the room becomes like the hall of an ancient palace. This can be played up and put plaster statues in the living room, large flowerpots with fresh flowers. If you love neoclassicism, be sure to use columns for decoration - they will perfectly fit into such an interior.

Curtains and curtains on doorways became fashionable again. The tendency to decorate arches and portals with textiles appeared in the 60s and 70s of the last century, then this technique was forgotten, and now they are remembered again.

Curtains are attached to doorways in order to zone the space. Sometimes it becomes necessary to close the living room or kitchen, so as not to interfere, for example, with sound or light, to create a more relaxed atmosphere. Here the door function can be performed by curtains made of dense fabric.

So that there is more space in the apartment and a few extra ones appear square meters, it is better to remove the doors between the corridor and some rooms, and make the openings wider and refine. There are a lot of options on how to do this better. First, using drywall, they need to give the desired shape, and then decorate with plastic, wood, stucco, paint or close with curtains. If you carefully think over each step, choose the right decor for a particular room, then a typical doorway will become an important part of the entire interior.

Suitable passage sizes

To a large extent, the dimensions are determined by the parameters of the rooms. Competently calculated width and height allow you to visually correct room imperfections. For example, wide aisles, especially with gentle arches, will make an apartment with a low ceiling more spacious, while narrow ones, on the contrary, will squeeze an already tiny space.

In any case, the entrance should not be lower than 2 m, and if it is an arch, it is better to place it higher so that the narrow parts of the arch are above the level of the shoulders and head. If the owner of the apartment wants to combine the two zones to the maximum, then the entrance can be done almost to the very ceiling.

The size of the asymmetrical arch depends on the intricacy of the shape. The more complicated it is, the wider the passage should be, so that the pile of decorations on a small structure does not add pretentiousness to it. Textured decor sometimes works positively for optical narrowing.

Which design to choose

The shape can be triangular, rectangular or round, complex or simple. You don't have to gouge the walls to create a semicircular vault. Bezels have been around for a long time. These are polyurethane elements that smooth out right angles, giving the desired roundness.

Rectangular

Suitable for apartments with low ceilings. They are the easiest to do. After removing and dismantling the box, the surface of the walls along the perimeter is leveled, plastered, puttyed. To avoid unnecessary dirt, you can do it easier - sheathe it with drywall, although it is advisable to putty it too.

There are also trapezoidal arches - a broken structure created from several straight lines intersecting at obtuse and right angles. Not all designers love her because of the funeral-themed associations.

Asymmetrical

As a rule, such arches have one side straight, and the other with a rounded vault. Although there are no rules here - every designer creates as he wishes. The only limitation is the material of the wall in which it is planned to place the fantasy arch: it can be made only in a plasterboard partition or assembled from separate slats.

How to veneer

To understand how to arrange a doorway without a door, you need to decide on the decoration of the premises. Since it faces two rooms at once, you need to consider how it will look from both sides, not forgetting about the style and color nuances.

Wood and MDF

Wood trim is used in most historical styles. For these purposes, oak, ash, hornbeam and pine are most often used. Parts are sold ready-made, fastened with nails or self-tapping screws. Stucco

Polyurethane is a flexible and dense material from which the frame of the arch is often made. It also allows you to create an imitation of expensive plaster moldings. Installation is carried out using special glue. Polyurethane can also be used to create columns on the sides of a doorway.

Stucco molding made of polymers does not break, it is well cut, it is friendly with any assembly glue. Gypsum is nobler, but heavier and cannot withstand falls, so you need to work with it very carefully. In addition, special glue or plaster mortar is required for installation.

The surface can be left white or painted.

Stone and tile

Stone cladding is much heavier than wood or polyurethane. Before starting work, the walls are leveled with putty. The choice of glue depends on the weight of the stone: for light slabs, liquid glue is suitable, for heavy ones, a solution of cement, glue, lime and sand is prepared. The cladding starts at the bottom and gradually rises to allow the bonding agent to dry. Each element must be held against the wall until it grabs. Excess must be removed immediately if it comes to the surface, otherwise it can ruin the final look.

Inlays made of wood or plastic, inserted between the rows of tiles, will help to maintain the same thickness of the seams. They can be easily removed after the composition has dried.

The seams are decorated with grout, and the entire composition is decorated with a composition that gives shine. Artificial stone and clinker are highly durable, but their natural counterparts have much higher strength. For interior partitions they may be too heavy. Most often, the edges of the masonry are made uneven, torn, creating deliberate negligence and the effect of antiquity, which looks advantageous in contrast in modern interiors.

Plaster and paint

It is easy to use plaster to decorate a doorway with your own hands. Its installation does not require any special skills. Before applying it, the base of the arch is leveled and treated with a primer. The paint is applied after drying. The relief depends on the shape and surface of the roller used.

Plastic panels

The panels bend well and fit easily even on non-standard shapes. The cover is attached with glue. The ready-made set consists of six platbands (there are three of them on each side - on top and on the sides) and three extensions. Top elements are not only flat, but also suitable for arches. If necessary, they can be easily cut with a hacksaw.

The corners live in tough exploitation due to high cross-country ability and need a high-quality finish. Plastic cannot boast of durability, but with careful attitude it will last a long time. Among its advantages are ease of maintenance, the presence of grooves for wires, a variety of colors and imitation of textures.

Drywall

GKL is durable, easy to install and easy to cut with a knife. It has good adhesion to any adhesives. They are sheathed with a frame made of metal or wood profile... The frame is fixed to the walls and ceiling. It can have any configuration. Its strength depends on the thickness of the profile and the distance between the prefabricated elements. The profile bends and cuts easily. Sheets are installed on self-tapping screws. The seams between them are putty.

Stone, clinker, wood, MDF panels, simple painting or wallpapering are suitable for many styles: eco, scandi, loft, minimalism, ethno, country, kitsch and others. True, the last two finishes look neat only with perfect smooth walls... Most of all, this applies to painting, which emphasizes any irregularities, especially in the presence of decorative lighting.

How to decorate

You can hang closed or open shelves along the entire contour, put racks. Thus, you get things, books, trinkets.
If the arch is made of drywall, you can make through windows, niches, shelves for flowers or accessories a few centimeters from the aisle.
The pompousness of the interiors will be added by the facing of the openings on the sides with plaster bas-reliefs, and on top - with a sandrick, that is, a slightly protruding cornice.
On the slopes, you can add spotlights, or ready-made lighting for furniture.
Slopes can be decorated with platbands and platbands, which are made of wood, MDF and PVC panels. Together, they give a finished look and expressiveness to the entire structure and can serve as one of the accents in the interior. Dobors are available with and without grooves. The first type is preferable, since the joints between the planks will turn out to be hardly noticeable and do not require careful adjustment. Platbands are very different. Often they are made of wood, after having pretreated it with insect repellents, microorganisms and fires. This material is unlikely to soon cease to be a favorite of designers and homeowners, it is very practical, aesthetic, environmentally friendly and versatile.

It is advisable to leave the passage free. The fabric can interfere, cling, get dirty. If you fix it with grabs during the day, you get a beautiful frame. It is good when the curtains are designed to match the curtains or curtains on the windows. By the way, thick fabric can trap odors from the kitchen, but it will often have to be washed or dry-cleaned.

Blinds do the job just as well as curtains. And also their vertical stripes raise the ceiling (horizontal, respectively, push the walls apart) and perfectly complement the modern interior with their strict geometry.

The restoration of various kinds of buildings and structures can often be accompanied by a system of new entrances and exits. Sealing existing openings

For example, if there is no longer a need for any of doorways in the house, then it must be closed. You can close the openings in the internal partition using ordinary drywall or other similar material.

However, if the opening is in the outer part, then there is no way to do without capital bookmarking of the opening. In such a situation, I will come to the rescue with special blocks and bricks.

The opening, before the embedding process, must be carefully prepared. The plaster should be completely removed: from the lowest base to the slopes and subtle corners.

In the brick opening, new, so-called, grooves are created for future masonry. Half bricks should be removed on every 4th row. Holes are created in the inner walls of concrete, into which 9-10 mm reinforcement is driven. This is done to strengthen the bond with the brick material.

The brick-covered wall is left to freeze for a day, and only a day later they start plastering. Initially, the areas of the walls that have been freed from the plaster will have to be primed.

During the plastering process, a steel mesh is applied every 240 mm. Steel structures are used to further strengthen the structure. Next, the wall is sprayed with cement, and the mixture (mortar) is applied. The number of plaster coats should be based on the correspondence of the levels of the previous and existing walls.

But! Be careful! Each subsequent new layer can be applied only one day after the previous layer has solidified. Before each application of a layer, the surface should be well primed, and on the other side, the wall should be plastered.

Decorating openings

Sometimes the opening can be left, but in this case, the decor of the opening in the wall will be required.

There are several ways to decorate an old opening in a house:

Arch creation. When creating arched structures, it should be remembered that the opening height will decrease by a significant number of centimeters. It is simple to make an arch using corners and putty. Additional material can serve as plasterboard structures, chipboard or plywood sheets.

But now in stores you can also purchase a ready-made version for your arch, which will facilitate the task. It remains only to buy it and substitute it under the opening. Arches can be perfectly of various types: U-shaped, oval, rounded, square, triangular, etc.

Interior decoration with a niche. Niches look rich, aesthetically pleasing, and also visually increase the space in the room. They can be not only beautiful, but also practical, that is, serve as cabinets and shelves. They will look like shelves that take up the entire wall space.

Design of old openings with various decorative materials. You can make the finish from natural wood. This is done if wooden structures already predominate in the interior, for example, a staircase, a door, and smaller elements.

The next option will suit you if you have already created an arch in the house and decided to decorate the arch with curtains or curtains. This will add lightness to the interior.
